Igarvey: Are you using the ArcGIS Online/Bing/Google caching scales to view/print your map? If you are not at the cache scale when viewing the online background rasters, ArcMap will sample up or down and render a bit fuzzy. See attached.

Mike: Thank you for the response. The draw order is a handy tool to have. I wish I could reorder the layers/services in the TOC, too, but maybe sometime in the future that will be available. Sincerely,

Online Team: Currently, in ArcGIS Explorer Online, when new content is added to my map, its place in the TOC cannot be changed (moved up or down the stack). I cannot organize my layers in a fashion that makes sense to the end-user. Are there any plans to add functionality to move layers in the TOC by dragging or right-clicking with "Move Up" or "Move Down" options?

Darcy: I would guess that it is your graphics driver software. We had similar results with Dell laptops. We installed Intel driver updates and that did not work. We uninstalled the Intel updates and went back to the Dell support site and downloaded the most current drivers intended to be installed with the model of laptop. I would look for the most current graphics driver provided by Sony for your model of laptop.

Dear ESRI: It took me some time, but I discovered that the Find tool in AGX can be used to locate a streets intersection by using an ampersand (&) in the statement. Example: 46th & grand ave, minneapolis The use of an ampersand to locate an intersection is not included in the AGX Online Help under Finding; Places, Addresses, or Locations. Can it be added so that this important function can easily be discoved by others? Thanks for listening.

Terri: You could join the table to the shapefile in ArcMap and then use the Export Data function to export the joined shapefile to a new shapefile. The new shapefile will have permanant attribute fields from the table. Now consume the new shapefile in AGX. Don't give up on ArcGIS Explorer!

dcopple: I downloaded Montana tile 3440.sid file, set my ArcGIS Explorer 2D coordinate system to NAD_1983_HARN_StatePlane_Montana_FIPS_2500, added the 3440.sid raster to AGX and it fell perfectly into place on the map. It also falls into place correctly when my AGX map coordinate system is set to WGS_1984_Web_Mercator_Auxiliary_Sphere.

Looks like you need to update your graphics driver. We had the same issue and it was solved by updating the graphics driver.

Thank you, Dave. I have spent much time in the Geoprocessing folder of ArcGIS Desktop 10 Online Help consuming that information regarding Python scripting. The online resources are very helpful, however, the 'Writing Geoprocessing Scripts with ArcGIS' document is a better learning tool (for me) that is more complete and contains nice examples and descriptions of Python scripting. It's a mini 'ArcGIS Python' text book.

ESRI is putting much emphasis on using Python to extend the power of their desktop software and I am excited to learn more and do more with Python. The very helpful ArcGIS 9 - Writing Geoprocessing Scripts With ArcGIS document has not been updated since 2005. Are there any plans to update the Writing Geoprocessing Scripts With ArcGIS document to be current with ArcGIS 10?

This happened in build 900 and happens less frequently in build 1200 (from my experience). Instead of clearing all the caches for you map, go to the Manage Layers button on the Home tab and highlight the failing shapefile layer and then click on the Clear Cache button. This clears the cache for the chosen layer, only.
