Mark Bockenhauer - this is the slowest release of a new build I have ever seen from Esri. We are six months into "2012 beta" and 15 months with build 1750. This is an important application for many of us and more frequent updates regarding the status of the new build would be much appreciated. Build 2013 will be out when? Approximately?

Aaron: I think that I have found a solution for my AGX GPS connection issue on a Lenovo X230. The Lenovo carries an onboard Sierra Wireless MC7750 - Gobi 4000 GPS chip. When I right-click on the Gobi device in the Windows Device Manger and choose properties, I see a "Bits per Second" (Baud Rate) of 9600. I assumed that the GPS Port Settings in AGX would need to be set to that 9600 Baud Rate, which I did and my connection would fail. Well, a co-worker left the Baud Rate in the GPS Port Settings at 38400, the default, and AGX makes a connection with the Lenovo onboard GPS with no problem. Thank you for your input and suggestions on this thread. I appreciate your help. Sincerely, Joe

Aaron: I am seemingly back to square one. After my reply back to you, I cannot reproduce my first success of connecting to the onboard GPS in AGX with the Lenovo GPS Enabler off and closed. I have rebooted and tried some other Gobi settings and GPS Enabler settings and continue to fail connecting in AGX. I will have to try again tomorrow morning. I appreciate your input.

Aaron: Good call. With the GPS Enabler utility Off, AGX connects to COM4 and displays a location at 0,0. I will get to some open space, now, and try the workflow of 1) Connect AGX to the onboard GPS. 2) Turn on GPS Enabler utility and see if AGX continues to be connected to the onboard GPS and give my current location. I'll report back, soon. Thank you, Joe

I have a new Lenovo X230 with an onboard GPS chip (Sierra Wireless MC7750 - Gobi 4000) and a GPS Enabler utility. GPS satellites are detected and a good 3D position is fixed, but I cannot get AGX Desktop to connect to the onboard GPS device. From the Display tab in AGX, I click on the Receive Signal button and configure the GPS Port Settings as revealed for the Gobi GPS chip, but AGX just "Attempts" to connect and fails. Screenshots are attached. Does anyone have any advice for connecting to an onboard Gobi chip with ArcGIS Explorer Desktop?

Mr. Chan: Good question. My sample for testing, described in earlier posts, was using two file geodatabases (SQL01 & SQL02). Sorry for the confusion. I have not tried it against real SQL geodatabases, yet.

Jie: I am using ArcGIS Desktop Advanced (ArcInfo) version 10.1 and I cannot get your workflow to work for me. See attached screen capture of my model. The Copy Features tool does not recognize %MosaicLayer%\Footprint as an input parameter. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you.

I am trying to export mosaic dataset footprint polygons in a modelbuilder model (ArcGIS Desktop 10.1). When I look at the Footprint polygon Source information in ArcMap, I see the following: Data Type: File Geodatabase Raster Catalog Database: F:\MosaicDatasetTesing\FGDB.gdb Raster Catalog Name: AMD_MosaicDatasetName_CAT Geometry Type: Polygon I tried what was suggested in this forum posting, but had no success. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/14805-Export-Mosaic-Dataset-Footprints?highlight=export+mosaic+dataset+layer+copy Is it possible to export mosaic dataset footprint polygons in a modelbuilder model?

Harry: Have you considered caching your vector data on ArcGIS for Server and sharing that map service with your end users? That is how we solved a similar issue with a very large parcel polygon data set. It's super fast!

I can confirm that findAndReplaceWorkspacePaths script does run with image/background services in the map TOC in ArcGIS for Desktop version 10.1. See: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/60553-Find-and-Replace-Workspace-Path-not-working?highlight=findAndReplaceWorkspacePaths However, I am getting the same results as Wai Chan. The script completes, but does NOT change the file paths to geodatabases. import arcpy, os

del arcpy, oldSDE, newSDE, mapDoc, mxd UPDATE - found the problem I removed the "\\" at the ends of the oldSDE and newSDE variable file paths and now the repath script works.

I just reproduced what Dan outlined. With Explorer 2012 beta open, I opened an empty/new session of ArcMap (ArcInfo). In ArcMap I went to >File >Add Data >Add Basemap... >Bing Maps Road. ArcMap grayed out for a little while and then a Basemap/Bing Maps Road layer package appeared in the TOC of my Explorer 2012 application. The ArcMap TOC remains empty. The same behavior happens with other Basemap options from ArcMap.

Andriy: How does Esri get pop-ups to appear from their soils polygons in the Specialty/Soil_Survey_Map (MapServer)? It appears that the layers in that map service have scale dependencies set and end-users are able to get attribute information in a pop-up window (see attached) in Explorer 1750 and 2012. http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Specialty/Soil_Survey_Map/MapServer
