In preparation for the public beta release of ArcGIS.com, the ArcGIS Online Web site will be unavailable on Saturday May 22 from approximately 8am PDT to 12pm PDT. The maintenance period is necessary to support the upgrade of the ArcGIS Online Web site and underlying database to the new ArcGIS.com site. After the upgrade the existing http://www.arcgisonline.com links will be redirected to http://www.arcgis.com. All content and groups previously on ArcGIS Online at http://www.arcgisonline.com will be available on ArcGIS.com at http://www.arcgis.com. During this Web site maintenance period, you will continue to have access to ArcGIS Online map services (http://services.arcgisonline.com and http://premium.arcgisonline.com) and task services (http://tasks.arcgisonline.com and http://premiumtasks.arcgisonline.com) which are maintained separately. Thank you for your patience -The ArcGIS Online team

By chance, does your group name include any special characters, for example a dash (-)? Special characters will cause the error you list below. The bad news is that if this is what's going on, you cannot access the group (even to delete it). The good news is that this issue is fixed in our next release which will be available very shortly.

I assume you are using ArcMap? ArcMap only applies one transformation automatically: NAD_1927_To_NAD_1983_NADCON, which is useful for the contiguous US (lower 48 states). Because the ArcGIS Online data is in WGS84 or possibly WGS 1984 Major Auxiliary Sphere, a geographic (datum) transformation must be applied. For WGS 1984 / NAD 1927, try using NAD_1927_To_WGS_1984_79_CONUS. Molly

There is no official date for retiring the old services. It may happen at the end of 2010. We will certainly post announcements on the blog in advance of taking anything down. Molly

That isn't a valid URL through a browser. It's the way to access the locator service through Desktop. Here's REST URL: http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Locators/ESRI_Places_World/GeocodeServer And the SOAP URL: http://tasks.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/services/Locators/ESRI_Places_World/GeocodeServer?wsdl I see in our item details for World Places that we hyperlinked the Desktop URL. That seems confusing (because if you click it, you will open a browser window and get the error you report). We'll remove the hyperlink to avoid more confusion. Molly

You cannot update map service URLs. However, you can update your Web maps with new services. For your services, you will want to remove the items and add new ones that point to your new server location. Remember to share the services with everyone or at least members of groups who will be accessing to your Web maps. Now, you can update your Web maps with these new services. To modify your existing maps with your new services, open your Web map, remove the old layers, and add new ones and save your changes. When you make changes to an existing Web map, you have the option to Save As (which creates a new Web map) or Save (which saves the latest changes to the existing map). In your case, you want to Save. -Molly

The underlying data used in the ArcGIS Online locator service is updated about every three months. For this reason, some locations may change (due to updates in the data) and therefore it is not a recommended practice to use XY coordinates as keys in your database. -Molly

ArcGIS Online is an excellent place to find and download data to use in ArcMap! For example, you might check out the ESRI Data & Maps group. You can download individual data layers from ESRI Data & Maps for immediate use. ESRI Data & Maps features downloadable data layers for the following areas of interest: * World: global data layers including country boundaries and cities * United States: data for the USA including states, counties, and landmarks * North America: data for the United States and Canada including states/provinces, highways/roads, and city areas * Europe: data layers for several countries in Europe including country and province level demographics In addition to this ESRI group, ArcGIS Online contains data shared by the ArcGIS Community. Use Search to find what you are looking for. Molly

Hi Daniel, I suggest you contact Support Services so they can look at the specific issue with you. The NMF should open in ArcGIS Online, especially if you can open the file from your desktop. Molly

From the context of your question, it seems you are asking about adding security to an ArGIS Server service? If this is true, you will find the best support from one of the Server forums at http://forums.arcgis.com/forums/8-ArcGIS-Server-General. This forum is for questions related to ArcGIS Online.

OK, I can see the item now in ArcGIS Online and get the same error message. Can you open the presentation on your machine? In other words, can you verify that the issue relates to adding the file to ArcGIS Online? Just to confirm to you-there should not be a problem with adding Explorer Maps to ArcGIS Online. Click this link to see example of one that opens as expected: http://www.arcgisonline.com/home/item.html?id=4e4715eca4914939a23c45ac5f824cca Molly
