In the latest ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud 3.0 release, one of the major features is ArcGIS Enterprise support. Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud: Version 3.0 supports ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9 and later.

ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud is an extension for Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop that allows cartographers and graphic designers to design data-driven maps and layers from ArcGIS. Signing in with your ArcGIS organizational account allows access to all the extension's content and advanced features, based on the privileges associated with your assigned user type (ViewerEditorCreator, or GIS Professional).

With the new ArcGIS Enterprise experience, an ArcGIS Enterprise administrator can configure your Maps for Adobe experience (content and service settings) to meet your organization’s requirements. With this new enhancement, GIS administrators can enable cartographers and extend the reach of GIS to their greater organization.

Although there are many ways to configure your ArcGIS Enterprise portal, there are a few key areas that will primarily impact your Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud workflows. These areas include:

Let’s take a closer look at each of these areas.

Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud is directly impacted by many ArcGIS Enterprise portal services including printing, geocoding, geometric calculations, and routing services. To have these functionalities fully operational in your Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud environment, you must ensure these settings are properly configured in your ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

Affected functionalities include applying a custom projection, geocoding points or plotting data from local files, and use of the Visualize Route functionality. The table below shows customizable ArcGIS Enterprise portal services and their functionalities within the extension. More information regarding configuring your utilities can also be found here.

Within the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, you’ll also be able to configure layers to highlight specific content. In the Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud extension, this can determine which layers the users of your ArcGIS Enterprise portal are able to add and utilize. You can choose to show content only shared to a specific group or display all content within your organization. You can also configure subscriber and premium content from ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World to make this ArcGIS Online collection available within your ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

Another key configuration to note is your ArcGIS Enterprise organization’s basemap gallery. The basemaps from your gallery are present throughout your extension workflows, in both the Mapboard and Compilation windows. One example of utilizing this configuration could be to only display custom basemaps to your ArcGIS Enterprise Organization’s users. In the example below you can see the difference between configuring the Default ArcGIS Enterprise basemap gallery, and a custom gallery called "EnterpriseBasemapTest".

Finally, Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud supports ArcGIS Enterprise instances that are deployed to a disconnected environment.  For a summary list of what you can expect with a disconnected environment and related configuration recommendations, see the ArcGIS Enterprise help topic Configure a disconnected deployment. When one of the services listed above is not available or accessible, you'll get an applicable message in the extension that informs you of this limitation.

This update includes fixes to support plugins use with the latest versions of Illustrator and Photoshop apps in a Windows operating system & a fix to address a ‘Timeout error’ when syncing layers with the new default mapping profile. For additional information about the new features introduced with version 3 check out this blog or watch this video.

Steps for Windows install:

  1. Close Illustrator & Photoshop
  2. Using the Creative Cloud Desktop app, update the Illustrator and/ or Photoshop versions to a supported version
  3. Download the plugin update from the product website.
  4. Double click the downloaded setup file (.msi) and follow instructions on the installer to finish the set up.
Note: If Illustrator and/ or Photoshop are updated after installing the plugin updates then uninstall and reinstall ArcGIS Maps for Adobe to ensure proper functioning.

ArcGIS Enterprise administrators are advised to refer to this knowledgebase article to update their ArcGIS Enterprise to work with this update.

For macOS, Illustrator version 25.2.3 continues to remain the latest supported version to continue using the plugin. A dependency issue with a more recent Illustrator version for macOS causes the map sync process to fail. Teams at Adobe and Esri are working together for a resolution toward this. For further assistance please contact Adobe and Esri technical support with information about the operating system version, Adobe apps versions and plugins version.

Update: New version v2.2.2 (for macOS only) addresses this compatibility. Details posted here

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recent updates to Illustrator specifically version 25.1 onwards have resulted in a need for plugin developers to patch their Mac builds to include a new method for building Mac OS based plugins. This is impacting opening .aix files on a Mac environment. The latest version of ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud plugin (2.2.1) is compatible with older version of Illustrator version 25.0.1. If you have recently updated Illustrator or have installed a fresh copy and you receive an error when opening .aix files on your Mac OS with the latest version of Maps for Creative Cloud plugin then we recommend rolling back Illustrator to a previous version to continue working. Rolling back Illustrator to version 25.0.1 or alternative installing an older version such as version 24.3 side-by-side, will allow you to continue working with .aix files. (Windows users are not impacted by these Illustrator updates).

Steps for rolling back Illustrator -

1. In your creative cloud app click the 3 dots next to Adobe Illustrator, expand the install menu and go to other versions

2. From the list of 'Older versions' list, Install version 25.0.1 or 24.3

Screen Shot 2021-02-11 at 10.45.46 AM.png

Note: If installing 24.3, you will need to reinstall the plugin.

We are working on a patch to resolve this issue.  In the meanwhile please try one of these suggested workarounds to continue working on .aix files on a Mac. A notification will be posted here when the update is publicly available.
