When typing notes in a text field the field no longer expands and wraps as it did in Collector if you reach the "edge of the field". If you type more than the screen width, exit the field, then want to go back to add notes (which is a a very common practice for me and many others), you have to use the space bar to scroll all the way to the end of the text string. This is very slow, cumbersome, and annoying. It also introduces the possibility to accidently select all your notes, then hit the space bar, which will delete everything. Please bring back the text wrapping capability that was in Collector. See the attachment of screenshots of the same data in Collector vs Field Maps.

Freehand drawing and generally increased line/polygon editing capabilities (split line, snapping, reshape line, reverse direction) would be an immense improvement for the geologic mapping community as well as other users. We would like to be able to digitize a line, with or without a stylus, as is done with the Markup tool but would like that feature to be stored in a feature service where we can control the attributes and symbology of the line/polygon. The markup tool draws the way we would like to collect lines, but does not quite cut it because of the way those features are stored, the lack of custom symbology, and the lack of custom attribute fields. There was a similar forum on this topic in Collector threads that had some steam, but I'm assuming Esri isn't paying attention to those collector threads any more, so I'm reposting here.

Hi. It would be great if we could change the basemap while actively editing/creating a point, line, or polygon. This would be very helpful for geologic mapping because as I'm taking notes at a rock outcrop, I will commonly want to see what the area looks like via multiple custom basemaps (tpks of previous geologic maps, lidar data, imagery, etc.). Currently you can't change the basemap while actively editing a feature. Please change this or at least make it an option to turn on/off this functionality within the app.

Yes, I agree. Freehand drawing, with or without a stylus, would greatly improve the efficiency of using Field Maps for geologic mapping. I know that the geologic mapping community would find this functionality immensely useful. Esri essentially went backwards in this functionality between the Collector Classic and Collector/Field Maps. Yes, there is the markup tool, but the way those data are stored is not what we are after. We would like to see the markup tool's drawing functionality, but applicable to a line or polygon feature service. There have been forums on this in the past for Collector https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-collector-questions/collector-anyone-else-find-moving-the-map-to-add/m-p/717309#M12237

The field geologists at the Utah Geological Survey would also very much appreciate this functionality.

Free hand polygons and lines in field maps would be extremely helpful for geologic mapping. I would love to see this implemented.

Hi @MatthewBrown8. Thanks for the response but unfortunately your suggestion is not a solution to the problem. As @PegGronemeyer1 says below, changing the color doesn't change the halo effect and the ability to see your selection one bit. The example @PegGronemeyer1 attached and the one I attached to my original post displays the issue very clearly. Try it yourself: Take the same data set of points and throw it into ArcMap and ArcPro. Symbolize those points to be black dots (or any shape of your choosing) under the size of 10. Set both reference scales to 1:24,000. Select a subset of your data in both applications. Zoom out to 1:60,000 (I know this is beyond the reference scale, but it's a very common thing to do if your data cover a large area, or even a USGS 7.5' quadrangle, which is 1:24,000 scale. Point is, don't get hung up on the fact that it's past the reference scale). Now, can you see which points are selected in ArcMap - Yes. Can you see which points are selected in ArcPro - No. For some reason, the issues isn't as bad with lines and polygons.

Kory, Please re-read what you just wrote, then think about what the ESRI Help page currently looks like for PRO, or Desktop for that matter. Why does ESRI get to demand clearly written, concise, numbered instruction with screen shots and videos but won't provide that same basic necessity to its users who painfully search for clear instructions on how to use their muddled software? Practice what you preach. Please and thank you. Writing clear, numbered steps (yes, literally numbered) and pointing out what you think the bug is (was the bug step 3 or step 5?), will speed up the process. Including annotated screenshots pointing to exactly what you're talking about helps too. Or a video! Use tool names specifically. When you click a button, if you don't provide a screenshot, you'll need to describe exactly what button you clicked (e.g when you added data to the map, did you do it from the Add Data button on the ribbon, or did you right-click a feature class in the Catalog Pane to add it? To a Current Map? To a New Map? OR were you in the Catalog View and not the pane? Anyway, not to go overboard here, but just pointing out that submitting an issue REALLY quickly and painlessly, is only effective if another user can replicate what you're describing. If they can't, it will be necessary to get more information, and that will be hopefully through a call and screenshare as that will be the best way to get a full understanding; if the exchanges are done by email, I guarantee that the case will take longer).

Hi Nick, The new way of digitizing vertices (points, lines, or polys) in the new Collector is extremely cumbersome and annoying in geologic mapping workflows. I commonly drop points at locations that I am NOT standing at or near. I also digitize a lot of lines in the field, commonly of places I can see from where I am but not near my GPS point, ie. across a canyon, etc. Drawing lines by moving the map beneath the cross hairs is extremely frustrating and much much slower. In the "Classic" version I used a stylus to get past the "fat finger problem," which worked very well, was very efficient and fast, and enabled me to place points/vertices accurately. In the new version, drawing, and especially editing vertices along a line or polygon, is more difficult, slower, and requires more clicks and manipulation . New Collector: Collect line = Move screen, click Add Point, move screen, click Add Point, move screen, click Add Point, move screen, click Add Point, etc., etc. Collector Classic: Collect line= tap the screen with a stylus tip where you want a vertex, repeat, done. It would be AMAZING if you could switch between the different modes of digitizing. Please bring back the "classic" way of collecting points/vertices. Thanks.

I too am looking for a hot key shortcut to the select tool. I really don't understand why there is not something equivalent to the "edit arrow" of ArcMap that lets you select a feature, move the feature, and double click to edit vertices (for line or polygon). With the current ArcPro editing tools I have to go back up to the ribbon and switch tools each time I want to go between simple editing functions. I do a lot of edits and the bottom line is that the way ArcPro editing tools are set up makes editing slower and requires more mouse clicks than in ArcMap. Bring back the edit arrow please or figure out a way to make a hot key to switch back to the select tool and possibly the explore tool too (which is in a completely different ribbon tab so that's one more click!). Thanks

Is there a way to create a selection halo in ArcPro rather than just having the color of the feature change to the selection color? When using the select by attribute feature in ArcPro to select multiple point features that are symbolized as small dots with labels over them, I then press "zoom to" to see where those points are on the map. If the selected points happen to be scattered over a large area, I can't see where the selected points are because the points has just changed color and no selection halo is created. I understand that sometimes the selection halo in ArcMap is annoying because it blocks the view of the actual feature when you zoom in. However, the selection halo is extremely useful when zooming out to smaller scale to see where multiple selected features are within context of your map. The two images are screen captures from ArcMap and ArcPro, both have the exact same data, selected features, symbolization, and same reference scale set. In the ArcPro capture you can't tell where the selected features are. In the the ArcMap capture it's very easy to see where the selected features are. Does anyone know if there is a way to turn on selection halos in ArcPro?

Aziz, did you ever find the solution to the problem? I was just having the very same issue and found the solution by publishing the feature service from ArcMap (Version 10.5.1) rather than from ArcPro. Give that a try and see if it works. ESRI - Why does publishing a feature service from ArcPro disable the rotations in Collector? I published the exact same feature class from both ArcMap and ArcPro, the resulting feature services both rotated the data properly in the AGOL map, but only the feature service published from ArcMap rotated the data in Collector. This seems to also be the case for being able to view attachments in Collector.
