Hi Ron, Review the 'Working with traverses' topic in ArcPad Help documentation for specific details to learn how to create polylines using offsets captured with the laser rangefinder. I noticed that you are using LTI TruPulse 360B laser rangefinder and thought I would ask if you are aware of an ArcPad extension developed specifically for TruPulse users, LaserGIS for ArcPad. LaserGIS extension for ArcPad makes it an easier process to setup and store the laser's measurements with fewer steps and more flexibility for the field user resulting in streamlined workflow making collecting data quicker and easier, increasing your productivity. Cheers, Denise

All, I researched (yet could have overlooked the Help topic) but don't believe it's currently possible to disable/remove the Repeat Attribute tool button from an AXF Edit form. Recent blog post from ArcPad Team is on Repeat Attributes Tool but doesn't include how to disable it. I recommend posting this on ArcGIS Ideas under the Mobile GIS category and tagged as: ArcPad. ArcGIS Ideas lets our customers get involved. You can suggest new products, promote favorite enhancements and interact with Esri Teams. Cheers, Denise

Hello Richard, Are you familiar with the MobileCacheTool for ArcGIS Mobile 10.0? This MobileCacheTool can extract selected features or features in a specified status (original/added/deleted/modified/current) to a shapefile. There are similar MobileCacheTools for ArcGIS Mobile 9.2 and 9.3 and ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.0 and 3.1 releases on ArcGIS Mobile Galleries. Cheers, Denise

Nick, all ArcPad check-ins must be preceded by new or fresh check-out in order to keep historical records of edits to geodatabase. Once data is checked out the resultant ArcPad AXF file can be copied and distributed to multiple ArcPad users. Each ArcPad AXF file copy can be checked in individually, or as a batch, allowing multiple edits to be performed in the field by multiple users. All edits in ArcPad, including adding features and related table records, deleting features and records, modifying attribute values, and changing feature geometry can be checked back in to the geodatabase. Edits are replayed to the geodatabase in the same order as they occurred in ArcPad. Ryan, actually you can check in edits from one or more ArcPad AXF files at a time and from one or more feature classes at a time. See the Get Data from ArcPad Help topics for more information. Yet, using GPScorrect and GPS Analyst extensions do utilize the GPS Analyst toolbar instead of ArcPad Data Manager toolbar. Cheers, Denise

Hello Gustavo, Have you reviewed the Help topics for ArcPad Extension for ArcGIS Server? Also we have a tutorial, Publishing ArcPad data to ArcGIS Server that takes you through each step of the process and have Common problems and solutions troubleshooting page. At the end of the process, an .apo file is created alongside your ArcMap .mxd document. You use the .mxd and .apo together to create an ArcPad publication when publishing the ArcPad project to ArcGIS Server. Depending on where you have installed ArcGIS Server 10, the ArcPad files are typically found in this folder path - C:\Server\arcgisserverOutput\arcpadpublications. Hope this helps to get you started. If you should still need assistance, please submit a support request with Esri Support so you can work with an ArcPad specialist to resolve this challenge. Cheers, Denise

Hi Agustin, As Gustavo suggested, I think seeing the Tracklog Layer Properties dialog window will help in determining if there is a pathing issue which might be causing the error you are encountering. Please view the attached screenshot and confirm that there is not a double slash "\\" in the path name of the tracklog.shp filename. With older versions of ArcPad, I have seen users encounter the "Error opening or creating the track file '\\My Documents\Mydirectory\Tracklog.shp.' Check preferences." Let's check to see if its related to your ArcPadPrefs.apx file. First close ArcPad on the desktop PC then Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the ArcPadPrefs.apx file. It's stored in the \My Documents\My ArcPad folder on WinXP PCs and Windows Mobile devices; its stored in \Users\profile\Documents\My ArcPad folder on Win7 PCs. Rename ArcPadPrefs.apx to oldArcPadPrefs.apx and launch ArcPad on desktop PC, ArcPad will open with default parameters restored. We renamed the file so as not to lose any customizations you may have. Check the Tracklog functionality, do you still see the error message? If not, then likely there is something in the ArcPadPrefs.apx file that was altered somehow and if you have no customizations you can continue using ArcPad with the new ArcPadPrefs.apx file from this point forward. Yet if you do have other customizations in your ArcPadPrefs.apx file you can resolve the error by editing the ArcPadPrefs.apx file in XML editor utility such as Notepad. Again, Close ArcPad on the desktop PC before editing the ArcPadPrefs.apx file. Using Edit menu > Find "tracklog" to quickly navigate to TRACKLOG option, remove the double slash "\\" in the path name of tracklog.shp filename or if the .shp extension is missing as your error would seem to indicate, add it to the tracklog.shp filename. Save and close the modified ArcPadPrefs.apx file then launch ArcPad, ArcPad will open with newly modified ArcPadPrefs.apx file. Check the Tracklog functionality, do you see the error message at this point? If neither of those suggestions helps resolve the error, I did find another user who reported they performed complete uninstall and re-install of ArcPad to resolve the "Error opening or creating the track file '\\My Documents\Mydirectory\Tracklog.shp.' Check preferences." error. If you are still experiencing problems with this error I encourage you to contact Esri Support and submit a support interaction so you can work with ArcPad specialist to resolve this error message and utilize GPS Tracklog functionality in ArcPad. Cheers, Denise

Hi guys, I am going to have to strongly disagree with the recommendation to toggle off "Validate feature classes prior to check out" option at bottom of Get Data For ArcPad - Select Output Options dialog as validation is an ArcGIS Desktop process and it is an important step in ensuring the success of your mobile GIS project. Additionally you should know that if you toggle off the "Validate feature classes prior to check out" option, ArcGIS Desktop will allow you to check out data that is invalid yet ArcGIS Desktop will not allow you to check in any invalid data features. When toggled on, the geodatabase layers and features selected for check-out will be validated before checking out. The validation process will stop at the first occurrence of invalid data and report the invalid data. The invalid data should be corrected, and the check-out process runs again (with the validate option checked) until no invalid data is reported. All invalid data will need to be corrected in order to check out the layer. The validation occurs in the following sequence: Validate any subtypes. Validate any attribute rules (such as domains). Validate any network connectivity rules. Validate any relationship rules. Perform any custom validation (using optional class extensions). ArcPad requires that all data be valid according to the defined domains. Although the validation process takes some time for larger datasets, it is highly recommended that you validate your data when using Get Data For ArcPad for the first time. This will detect and report any invalid data and provide you with an opportunity to correct the data. Hello Indra, Microsoft has not stopped supporting the Windows Mobile OS although likely to be service pack updates only. Earlier this year, Microsoft released the Windows Embedded Handheld OS, a high performance OS platform optimized for enterprise handheld devices (runs on many of devices previously running Windows Mobile OS). Windows Embedded Handheld addresses the broad needs of Enterprises in many segments, including field mobility, transportation and logistics, retail, healthcare, and manufacturing and has Microsoft commitment for 10-year support program plus product availability of 15 years (see attached PDF). ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.1 (formerly named ArcGIS Mobile 10x) is supported on both Windows and Windows Mobile OS devices. ArcGIS for Windows Mobile - Mobile App runs on Windows Mobile 5.0, 6.1, 6.5 and Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5x OS; ArcGIS for Windows Mobile - Windows App and Mobile Project Center runs on Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2, and Windows 7 OS. Windows 8 is Microsoft's new unified OS that works on tablets, traditional PCs and laptops and has twin versions, Windows 8 and Windows RT. Windows 8 is considered next iteration of Windows 7 OS with a new runtime environment, WinRT for Metro Apps. The full version of Windows 8 will be available on Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro devices; powered by Intel chips; can run legacy Windows programs already being used by you (including ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.1). Windows 8 RT is similar to Windows Phone 7 OS. Windows 8 RT runs on ARM-based tablets & PCs and Windows 8 smartphones; is not compatible with older Windows software; works exclusively with Apps available in the Windows Store (see ArcGIS for Smartphone/Tablet Apps for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone OS devices). Esri plans to have the ArcGIS for Windows Store App available at time of Windows 8 publicly available release for Windows 8 RT devices. I hope this helps, Denise Now, the Windows 8 & Windows Phone 8 has been released. As desktop & phone both version of Windows 8 are using the same kernel and I'd came to know through some technical postings that windows forms based application will be run as it is on Windows 8. Is ESRI has some plan to made ArcGIS Mobile compatible with Windows Phone 8? Because Microsoft has stopped supporting the Windows Mobile so if ArcGIS Mobile will compatible with Windows Phone 8 then it will be definitely very very useful specifically for enterprise & disconnected usage. Hello Steve, Can you provide more information on functionality you would like to see added to ArcPad StreetMap extension? Can you provide details regarding field user workflow? Do your ArcPad StreetMap projects contain the entire StreetMap North America dataset or have you utilized the StreetMap Desktop Data Extractor to extract data for specific area from the dataset? Are you familiar with the ArcPad StreetMap GRF file? Would using GRF file in field workflow provide a more user-friendly interface for field workers? If the above suggestions do not answer your question I recommend you post your suggestion for adding Address Locator functionality to ArcPad on ArcGIS Ideas web site. At the ArcGIS Ideas Web site, users can post, comment, and vote on product improvements. Cheers, Denise
