Eric is correct, in the Select Data panel of Get Data For ArcPad wizard you will want to check the Layer Definition Template checkbox located far-right of the panel for selected layer. See screenshot and review Help documentation for additional information, http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcpad/10.0/help/index.html#/Get_Data_for_ArcPad/00s100000068000000/ Layer Definition Template When checked, the Open Layer dialog is displayed allowing you to choose an existing Layer Definition from a shapefile or ArcPad AXF file to be used as a template. This allows you to re-use forms, scripts, icons, and other layer definition elements.

We are running into this same issue with ArcGIS Mobile 10, has anyone found a solution?
Although I am not clear on the device you are creating this mobile project, I want to ask if you are familiar with the ArcGIS Mobile 10 Code Samples? One sample that might be of interest is titled Navigation Extension for ArcGIS Mobile tablet application 10.0 http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html...67d0ed5e482896
Hi Akhil, Organizations that license ArcGIS Server Advanced Enterprise receive unlimited deployments and runtimes of ArcGIS Mobile 10 at no additional cost. (ArcGIS Server Advanced Enterprise 9.3 were given 50 deployments for ArcGIS Mobile). At version 10, ArcGIS Desktop users are entitled to one complimentary ArcGIS Mobile deployment for use with each ArcGIS Desktop license (ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo). ArcGIS Desktop users can install ArcGIS Mobile on their workstation and deploy an ArcGIS Mobile application or ArcGIS Mobile runtime to one mobile device. Additional mobile deployments for use with ArcGIS Desktop can be purchased in 5-pack bundles. http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgismobile/pricing.html Please refer to the Esri license agreement for additional details, http://www.esri.com/legal/pdfs/mla_e204_e300/english.pdf. Thanks, Denise

Hi David, Thank you alerting us to the MobileCacheTool 10.0 error message. We have identified and added missing DLL to the sample which was causing the error. Please download and run the modified tool from original location. MobileCacheTool 10.0 http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html...b962e6225ebd2d MobileCacheTool can extract selected features or features in a specified status (original/added/deleted/modified/current) to a shapefile. Photos saved in raster/blob fields are exported as files. This version works for ArcGIS Mobile 10 cache This tool relays on ArcGIS Mobile 10 runtime and ArcGIS Desktop 10 runtime (need to have both mobile and desktop installed) In mobile10, esri.arcgis.mobile.dll is not installed to GAC, to run this tool, esri.arcgis.mobile.dll needs to be in current folder Denise

Hi everyone, My name is Denise and I am the Mobile Development Technical Lead in Support Services and I work directly with Support Services and Esri's Developers of Mobile GIS software including ArcPad and ArcGIS Mobile. Let's start off letting everyone know ArcGIS Mobile 10 is now licensed for use with both ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Server. http://blogs.esri.com/Dev/blogs/mobilecentral/archive/2010/09/02/ArcGIS-Mobile-and-ArcGIS-Desktop.aspx http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/video/arcgis-mobile/details?entryID=85FA839A-1422-2418-882A-E1148D3DE858 More information is needed to properly answer mobile hardware questions including determining specific field project needs such as amount and type of data taken into field, will multiple sensors and data collection tools (camera, GPS, rangefinder) be used, is navigation required, what is GPS accuracy requirement, what are expected environment conditions, field staff experience, budget, etc? Once the field project needs have been identified, you can then begin to identify the data collection tools that will be needed and be able to make informed decisions regarding hardware requirements. Second, both ArcPad and ArcGIS Mobile applications can be customized for specific mobile GIS projects. Again, the choice is dependent upon your project goals, data structure and knowledge of software limitations (ArcPad does not currently support annotation or topology; ArcGIS Mobile does not currently support related tables or editing of existing geometries (attribute editing only). Both ArcGIS Mobile and ArcPad are easily integrated into existing ArcGIS workflows. ArcPad is a map-centric, Windows-based mapping and field data collection application designed for GIS-trained professionals in small- to medium-sized workgroups who typically perform ad-hoc data collection. It includes advanced GIS/GPS editing functionality to facilitate post processing and also supports related tables. ArcPad projects can be customized using scripts and applets available in ArcPad Studio. ArcGIS Mobile is a task-driven GIS application for Windows Mobile and Windows tablet devices. It is designed for non-GIS professionals in medium to large organizations that typically perform simple data collection and field inspection projects. ArcGIS Mobile provides central management, configuration, and deployment of apps and projects. GIS information can be synchronized from both server and desktop clients. A .NET software development kit (SDK) is also available for building customized applications. ArcPad http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcpad/index.htmlArcGIS Mobile http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgismobile/index.html Please contact Esri Support Services to talk to a Mobile GIS specialist who can answer any additional questions. Good luck with your mobile GIS projects!

Please confirm user account is member of agsadmin group, we have only seen this reproduced when user account is not a member of agsadmin group or the domain doesn't allow the server to authenticate. Please contact Esri Support Services, http://support.esri.com/en, to have Support incident logged to further troubleshoot this behavior. Thanks, Denise

Hi Joe, One suggestion is to disable background geoprocessing by clicking Geoprocessing > Geoprocessing Options on the Standard toolbar in ArcMap and then re-run the tool. Some geoprocessing tools need as much of your computer resources available and when a tool fails because there is not enough memory available you can try the following: Identify and exit nonessential memory-intensive applications. Disable background processing from the Geoprocessing Options dialog box (Geoprocessing > Geoprocessing Options). This will shut down the background process and free up resources. Rerun the tool. Using this procedure, background processing is bypassed; the additional background process does not start, and the resources it would consume is now available for your tool to make use of. While the tool is executing, avoid starting any memory-intensive applications. If the above doesn't help to resolve the "ERROR 001143: Background server threw an exception" error, please contact Esri Support and log this issue so we can help in troubleshooting this error. Thanks, Denise

Hello, It is not possible to read the SDC basemap layers in the manner you describe. The SDC basemap layers are present in ArcGIS Mobile for reference only. You need to publish the buildings layer an operational layer in order to perform Query / Search functions in ArcGIS Mobile. Thanks, Denise

Because Windows Tablet machines runs Windows OS and not Windows Mobile OS, ArcGIS Mobile 10 is installed on your tablet (or laptop) PC using same installation method used on desktop PC. Simply run setup.exe to launch ArcGIS Mobile setup program but first verify your tablet or laptop computer meets system requirements (requires logging in as user with administrative privileges). Please refer to ArcGIS Mobile Installation Guide for detailed instructions, http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgismobile/10.0/installguides/ArcGISMobile/index.html#/Installing_ArcGIS_Mobile/00qz00000029000000/.
