Peter, Try resetting the Juno SB handhelds to see if that resolves the issue, if not please contact Esri Support and submit support interaction so you can work with ArcPad specialist to get ArcPad installed on your devices. I also recommend you download and install all applicable upgrades/updates for Juno SB devices from Trimble site (WinMo OS upgrade, GPS Firmware update). Cheers, Denise

Hi Brad, Unfortunately it seems you are encountering NIM084108; Error: Given key was not present in the dictionary when attempting to add a basemap to ArcGIS Mobile 3.0. The Mobile team is actively investigating this issue and hopes to provide solution in the next update of the ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3x application. Although not considered a workaround, Support has been able to get past this error following steps listed below (note that steps might not be viable for some users):
1. Stop all map services on the GIS Server 2. Start only the cached service to be used as a basemap 3. Clear the REST cache 4. Connect to a 'working' GIS Server to clear the state 5. Restart the mobile project center 6. Attempt to connect to your GIS Server.
Please advise whether above steps help in your particular situation or not. I encourage you to contact Esri Support and request to be added to NIM084108 for more accurate number of customers encountering this error. Thank you, Denise

Hi Glen, You can use ArcPad to comment on locations and take georeferenced photos and add the Sketch Extension to annotate field photos. Sketch Extension was designed for workflows requiring freehand sketch data entry. http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=f6c5e8f1737e4d598bab1ceb40d93be7 Cheers, Denise

Hi Ketan, Please review ArcGIS for Windows Mobile topics on ArcGIS Resources site, http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/windows-mobile/app/index.html#/Desktop_and_Server_workflows_for_ArcGIS_for_Windows_Mobile/007v00000047000000/. I think the Desktop workflow section confirms that operational map data from a file geodatabase or an ArcSDE database is editable as long as it has a GlobalID. Cheers, Denise

Hello Chris, Please post your question on the ArcGIS for iOS Apps and/or ArcGIS for Android Apps forums as the ArcGIS Mobile Forums is for the ArcGIS for Windows Mobile App and SDK which supports Windows Mobile and Windows operating systems, not iOS or Android platforms. This link is to an overview of all Esri Mobile Solutions for your information, http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/about/mobile-gis-for-you. Cheers, Denise

Monte, I haven't seen this warning message reported with ArcPad before but did find reference to the warning with Trimble TerraSync software, http://www.fs.fed.us/GRAIP/downloads/GPS/TerraSyncGettingStartedGuide.pdf. The warning 'Carrier lock lost" simply indicates that the carrier lock has been lost and the TerraSync software has stopped logging carrier or H-Star data. I am not sure you want to disable this warning, as it is indicating that you are not collecting GPS positions. Warning and Error messages should be noted, because they contain important information about the task you are trying to perform. If indeed ArcPad is presenting the warning then I suggest checking the GPS Preferences > Quality and Alerts tabs. What Warnings options are selected on Quality tab (No Warnings, Non-Compulsory Warnings, Compulsory Warnings)? On Alerts tab, which Alert messages are active? If you can confirm that ArcPad is presenting the pop-up warning, then please contact Esri Support for further assistance in troubleshooting this warning with an ArcPad analyst. Please provide complete software and GPS receiver hardware information for further investigation. Cheers, Denise

Hello Basuki, Have you confirmed you meet all system requirements for ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.0 application? For Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, SP1 is the maximum OS version for ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.0. Here is the link to Windows 7 SP1 download for both 32-bit and 64-bit OS. Have you installed .NET Framework 3.5 SP1? After installing the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 package (either the bootstrapper or the full package) you should immediately install the update KB959209 to address a set of known application compatibility issues. In addition, on Windows Vista x64 and Windows Server 2008 x64, install the update KB967190 to address a file association issue for XPS documents. After installing Windows 7 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, I recommend performing a repair installation of ArcGIS for Windows Mobile 3.0 through Control Panel > Programs. If you still have same behavior after running through all these suggestions, please contact Esri Support so you can work with support to further troubleshoot this issue. Thank you, Denise

Hello Dick, Yes, all data in your MXD must be in the same spatial reference prior to performing check out to ArcPad. ArcPad ONLY SUPPORTS on-the-fly projection and datum conversion from the GPS input datum to the projection and datum of the current map. If you are using Trimble GPScorrect and GPS Analyst extensions, then the only difference is you will need to use personal geodatabases. If you will be using related tables in your ArcPad project then the layers and their related tables must be in the same geodatabase in order to be checked out for editing in ArcPad. I think the challenge you have encountered is from upgrading to ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 as Trimble hasn't yet released a version of GPS Analyst that supports the ArcGIS 10.1 application. If you require post-processing of your GPS data, then you need to remain at ArcGIS Desktop 10 until a supported version of GPS Analyst is announced by Trimble. Please refer to Trimble website and Software Comatability Matrix (pg 15) for more information. Regards, Denise

Some information to help you get started and introduce you to ArcGIS for mobile devices. Esri has several mobile solutions that are supported on mobile devices including ArcPad, ArcGIS for Windows Mobile and ArcGIS for Smartphones (iOS, Android, Windows Phone). If you are wanting to develop for the Android platform then you will want to check out the ArcGIS for Android application. Cheers, Denise

Hello Ron, Not sure you're aware ArcPad Studio Help is now Online as announced earlier this month on ArcPad Team Blog. I suggest reviewing documentation on ArcPad Layer Definition File Schema, AUX event and OnClose, OnComm, & OnOpen attributes, and COMPORT element as well as the sample ArcPadPrefs.apx. Here is a sample from past DevSummit presentation - Read and Parse AUX port example: function ReadAUXForTemp () { // called in OnComm event to read data from AUX port // read from the AUX port var strRawData = AUX.ReadLine(); // parse the comma-delimited data var arrParsedData = strRawData.split(","); // if data is valid, return the temperature if (arrParsedData [0] == "$PTEMP") return (parseFloat(arrParsedData [1])); else return (NaN); } Hope this helps get you started, Denise

Chris, Please review ArcPad Help topic on Using Existing Data under ArcPad AXF File section. Recommendation is to import the DBF file into a Personal or File Geodatabase (GPS Analyst requires PGDB) as GDBs store data rules such as coded value domains (drop down lists) al with range domains, subtypes, data tables, relationships between feature tables and data tables, and other properties not possible with shapefile format. I also recommend ArcGIS 10.1 Help topics on Geodatabases and Adding Datasets and Other Geodatabase Elements for more information. If you should need further assistance, please log support request with Esri Support so you may work with an analyst to get you started. Cheers, Denise

Lauren, You need to check the Layer Definition Template checkbox (far right) on Select Data panel of Get Data For ArcPad tool. For more information, please refer to ArcPad Help > Data Management > ArcPad Data Manager for ArcGIS > The ArcPad Data Manager toolbar in ArcGIS > Get Data For ArcPad. When checked, the Open Layer dialog box is displayed, allowing you to choose an existing Layer Definition from a shapefile or ArcPad AXF file to be used as a template. This allows you to reuse forms, scripts, icons, and other layer definition elements. Cheers, Denise

Thank you Matt, your workaround is appreciated by Windows 7 ArcPad Studio users everywhere. Denise Hi, I was building a custom applet this morning and also encounterred this bug on my Windows 7 PC where the "text" and "values" dropdowns would remain unpopulated. I closed Arcpad Studio, then right-clicked the ArcPad Studio icon and within the properties window I selected compatibility view with Windows XP. Now all the DBF values show properly in the custom form editor and you can continue with your customization. Matt

All, We apologize to you for the inconvenience this issue is causing you and your workflows. This behavior is a known issue on Vista OS and referenced as NIM083798; Fields for external list values in ArcPad Studio 10 only show on XP machines (not on Win7/Vista). Current status of NIM083798 is Exported and has been Assigned to Development Lead for further action. Please contact Esri Support and ask to be added to this ArcPad bug which will aid in tracking status of NIM083798 in the future via the My Support portal on Esri Support site. Regards, Denise
