I have downloaded the AGOLforStateGov.zip file and cannot extract/unzip it. I get a message saying that it's invalid. Any ideas?

It's now 2015 and this thread topic, along with its precursor, has no real solution. That's 11 years with no fix. A decade is a reasonable window for improvement and yet the geoprocessing tools still don't work as it should. I added this to ArcGIS Idea today, March 6, 2015.

For 11 years now (original post, newer post) users have been trying to get Model Builder to use the Remove Join tool correctly. ESRI has never posted a solution to this essential tool and we all think that a fix is long past due.

Can someone point me to a help file on Rule Package (.rpk) creation, please? I can't find any mention of it on ESRI websites.

This issue used to happen if you changed the item's owner. I'm not sure if that was ever fixed but it was one way in which a service would lock up.

It's in my root folder so that must be a different problem. I'm running out of ideas on how to handle updates. Deleting the FS and re-serving it is an option in this case, but with services that other people have built maps with it would pose problems because the service would have a new ID. ESRI, is there another way to do overwrites in AGOL?

You're not posting to feature services in sub-directories are you? 10.2 appears to have removed that ability. You mean the Feature Service has to be at the root of the person's AGOL account, not in a folder??? I hope you're joking.

I seem to be having a similar issue since I switched to 10.2. I've tried to overwrite an existing service and nothing seems to happen. After the warning message about losing data that has been edited in the service, I press next and the window goes away with no further messages. I tried removing the feature service from the web map and re-adding it but it doesn't matter; the service was never updated.

This issue turned out to be a network problem with my computer, not an issue involving Z-values. However, if you need to change a default Z-value or enable/disable the functionality you can use Feature Class to Feature Class and use the Environment settings in the GP tool.

Jason, Sorry for the delay in the message. I actually uninstalled Maps for Office because it was interfering with my work. I've been trying to publish the Tree feature class from the Local Government Information Model as a feature service on ArcGIS Online with an organization account and keep getting an error that I think is tied to the Default Z-Value. I've looked at the help documentation on the topic (Editing features with z-values in feature services) and it mentions configuring the settings on ArcServer, not ArcGIS Online, once the service is published. Is there another way to go about setting a Default Z-Value on a feature service that doesn't involve ArcServer? If not on the feature service, on the feature class before publication?

To answer my own question, this is set in the Parameters section of the Service Editor. By default the "Maximum number of records returned by the server" is set to 1000 which is not-so-coincidentally the limit for the number of features that can be loaded without a subscription account. Well-played, Esri.

With an organization subscription service we can publish feature services with more than 1000 objects to ArcGIS Online but when we pull that feature service into ArcMap desktop it reduces the layer to 1000 features. Is there a reason for this?

The City & County of Honolulu is using the LGIM as Scott described; adding our data to it when we want to use an ArcGIS Online application to serve it up. I'm currently trying to feed it our data that will also be used in the 3D City Information Model and from there CityEngine. One thing I'm already noticing and concerned about is the lack of synchronization between the two models and errors within them when checked using ArcGIS Diagrammer or X-Ray tools. It can be difficult to get data into the model, it seems hard to manage features once they're in without transactions, and managing updates to the schema would add another level of difficulty. It's a lot of work that needs to be balanced against the benefits of end product. Still, the models are well-thought out and provide a very powerful way of merging the 2D and 3D technologies. Our final products are increasingly WebGL scenes created from CityEngine. For us, having a schema in a format that is more closely attuned to web-based world is worth the investment of time in getting the data into the model.
