This should ignore any AGOL timeout and start CE immediately, though the AGOL features will be deactivated that way. Matt, does that mean I won't be able to export CityEngine scenes to ArcGIS Online if that line is added to the .ini file? If so it's a workaround but will this issue be solved in a future patch?

Each time I right-click in the Navigator window CityEngine locks up for several minutes or crashes the program completely. Has anyone else had this problem in CE 2012.1?

I'm having nearly identical issues - CityEngine takes 17 minutes to launch and the Examples download fails on the Damaged City (see screenshot). I'll try to get them with the link in the previous post.

I'm going to continue on this thread because the title matched my initial search. When I try to start CityEngine 2012.1 I get an error message regarding the license file. We're using a concurrent license and have already gone through the authorization process prior to installation. ArcGIS Administrator shows 2 CityEngine Advanced licenses available. The attached screenshot is what I see each time the program is started. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

The deletion bug can also be caused by having a space in the service name. See #NIM082740. Another NIM (#NIM080606 - An ArcGIS Online hosted feature service can only be overwritten if it is located in the user's root content directory) was related to this error but it has been removed from the Support site. Also, be careful if you Change Owner. I'm not sure if this is still an issue since the last patch but ownership changes can lock a file as well.

Ahmed, ESRI is updating parts of the world as the imagery comes in. If you go to the Blog link at the top of this page and search "High-resolution Imagery" you should see a lot of update postings. I couldn't tell you their exact schedule, but I'd keep an eye on the Blog.

I believe this was brought up at the plenary session of the User Conference last week. New imagery will be coming soon, much of it with better resolution.

I'm seeing a consistent shift in the initial extent from the web map to the out-of-the-box ESRI web app. Normally a web map's extent, when saved, defines the initial extent for the web app. Since the beginning of this week, any maps we saved were offset in the corresponding app - forced to the right ~120px and down ~18px @ resolution 1280x1024. I've included screenshots to show how a false extent has to be created in the map in order for the app to center the area of interest. Thank you for your comments, Mike, and I understand. I meant to post this as a discussion instead of Q&A. It was mainly to show a quick summary of what to expect from each app as it is out-of-the-box so that other people didn't have to do the same research. This was originally going to be a spreadsheet our organization would use to select the appropriate app for a gallery map; I figured others might want to use it for the same reason. The only real bugs in the apps are the double-click synchronicity issues and the full legends not appearing. The Storytelling Compare app lacked a decent legend and it couldn't be configured after publishing which made it less utilitarian than some of the other similar ones. I could have posted those bugs in a separate thread but it seemed more appropriate here.

There are subtle differences between the out-of-the-box multi-paneled applications. I've compared six ArcGIS Online Web Application Templates using the same web maps in each when possible. Some of them have bugs that will need to be worked out in the next patch. Panel Synchronicity On Double-Click - The panels remain synchronized when Location & Scale are toggled to 'On' and the user double-clicks on a panel. Legend Items Described - Legend items are not just symbols they also have a description from the Contents panel of the Web Map. Content List - The layers that make up the Web Map are listed in the application. Description - The Web Map's description from its Details page shows up in the application. Configurable - The application is configurable after publishing it. Other Issues - Other bugs that may detract from the use of the application. The user should only use this option if comparing maps with similar extents. Save and Clear options do not appear to do anything.
This was posted on July 13, 2012. I'll try to post changes to this table after the next patch (November 2012?).

Thomas, ArcGIS Online has a lot of display issues in IE8, some of which are resolved in IE9. We have found that nearly all of our published maps have some kind of issue in the IE browser.

Here is an interesting one where I used the Bookmark for Apalachia and then panned. The selection outline is in the correct location, but the purple polygons did not catch up. PJ I've seen this problem in our maps too. When panning the features act like graphics and do not move with the map. In cases where you have aerial imagery on top of another basemap it can be used like the Swipe tool from Arc desktop which is an unexpected bonus tool (see screenshot). It's not ideal though, we don't want to see features or aerial imagery suspended above the map as it pans.

Yes, I think we are seeing something similar. When zooming in and out we are seeing the angles on polygons change slightly. In these screenshots you can see the corner circled in red go from an obtuse angle to a right angle. Small scale Large scale Is that the same phenomenon you're seeing or is it something different entirely?

Wow! this is a really amazing project you are working on. I don't have any advice for you, but I just wanted to say keep up the good work. I'd love to see how things turn out. I agree, this is a really neat project. National Geographic just did an animated timeline Civil War map for the iPad a few months ago. These maps you're making have a lot of potential. I'd love to see some examples when you're done.
