I don't know anything about trying to do this, but I want to learn how to, if it's possible. I work at a water plant and our telemetry uploads current operational information to a web page in a table format. We access that mainly on our smart phones to monitor our system when when we are not in the plant. What I would like to do is pull information from this page, and use it within Operations Dashboard. I can access data from the above page using a web page JSON requests. For a lack of a better way to describe this, I see a simple table and wonder how can I pull cell "A9" (A9 is just example) and shove it into a field that is contained in a layer on ArcGIS Online, which I can then use in Operations Dashboard. This sounds to simplistic, but is it possible to insert a URL into a field in a published feature layer, have it store that value from the table, and then assign an "refresh interval" to update that value? I'm not trying to circumvent Arc Server, but we could never justify purchasing it just to update layers or to have me experiment. I've taught myself to use ArcGIS Online and Arc Desktop, but you can tell this definitely is not my area of expertise. I would really like to do more with dashboards, but I need the data from our SCADA to develop operational related dashboards (flows and pressures). We only have 15 employees so we are a very small company, but serve 17,000 people water. ArcGIS Online has been very useful for our company and I'm just looking for other ways to expanded on it by developing more apps, but I really want to incorporate these dashboards. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be very helpful. I think I should find a book on this stuff. I know what I'm asking is possibly not doable. Thank you, Travis

Kevin, Since I made that change this morning (enabling our Water Main layer to be taken offline), I thought I would try taking it offline using Collector 18.1.0. It downloaded! No errors. It would seem that my problem was self-inflicted. Enabling that layer fixed my problem in 18.1.0 and 18.0.3 (Classic). So, I may not have the same issue that the other were having. Kevin, I think I figured out the “Collector Classic”. When I began sharing the map and layers within that map with your group this morning, I got this error “The item you requested cannot be found. The item may have been deleted or you may have entered an incorrect URL.” I uploaded a “water main” layer to replace our aged one and didn’t enable it to be taken offline. I enabled it and then my cloud came back on our “Le-ax Field Map” on the All Maps. I then was able to download that particular map that this morning. So Classic wasn’t working because of something I did. I shared two maps with your group. Our “Le-ax Field Map”, which is our “go to” map for taking points and just about everything else. I also shared our “Hydrant and Valves Maintenance Map”, which was the one I was trying to download yesterday and was getting errors. Both maps contain the shared layers Hydrant3 and Valves, both of which have domains. There are more layers in Le-ax Field Map and they are shared as well. Wow. I appreciate the explanation, but you’re talking above me. Domain wise, I have have a couple layers (feature service) that has domains: hydrants and valves. It’s been a long while since I set them up (3-4 years), but I created them on Desktop. For example, I created a layer called hydrant, and a domain within with numbers 1 through 4. I used the numbers to represent colors, which then represented a “good”, “moderate”, “fair”, and “replace”. I set it up for inspections. I then uploaded that to AGOL. When I first started dabbling in AGOL, there wasn’t any way to create domains online, thus I couldn’t color code. But you could create it in Desktop and upload it. That’s what I did. My valve layer is basically the same- 3 colors, one for being open, one for closed, and one for NULL. I have never created a layer online so I don’t know if domains are possible or not. I was thinking they were with this latest update to AGOL. I’ll share that map when I get in in the morning. With regard to Collector Classic, Thursday or Friday I think was when I updated to the latest version, which I understand is being called Classic. Today was the first day I tried to download a map to go offline. It seems that I have lost all the cloud icons to download a map except for one. I have no idea why that is the only one that remained. It’s on a map that I don’t use very much. We have 5 users and my Desktop version. We are not a large company at all and I take care of everything. We don’t do anything complicated. We have two Eos Arrow receivers and two iPads that we take points with. The other accounts are mainly used by field staff on iPads to view or update fields. i.e.-If they exercise a valve, they would just update that info. The error I get is "Unable to create Replica. Check Parameters. Sync is not enabled." I know sync is definitely enabled on each of the layers. I went back and unchecked them and then rechecked just to see if anything would change. It didn’t however. I’m not sure what else to try, or to provide. Maybe it’s on my end, but I haven’t done anything different last week than I’ve done for the last two years. Robb, I just notice an issue as well. I have not changed anything with regard to our maps, and have been using them for well over a couple years now. I could easily go offline and sync back. No issues. This morning I can no longer go offline with what is now "Collector Classic". The cloud is now gone from most of the maps. One did have it, and when I would try to download it, I would get Unable to create Replica. Check Parameters. I tried logging out and in and that did nothing. When I logged back in under my admin account, I go an error about background refresh. I checked in settings and the background refresh is turned off, and is grayed out with no way to turn it on. I tried using the "Collector Beta" to go offline, using that same map above, and I got an error of "Download Failed. I checked the background refresh in the settings and it is enabled. I'm using iPads and iPhones by the way. I don't know if this is because of the updated website, Collector Classic, Collector Beta, or the Aurora Project. Very frustrating because I have to go offline 50% of the time to collect data. Sorry I couldn't help, but thanks for posting and starting the topic. Travis

So are you saying that you do create a local copy and sync it back to AGOL? I just upgraded our Basic license to Standard so I could use the sync feature, but mainly upgraded so I could create a geometric network.

Oops. I didn't mean I was doing that in AGOL. Sorry. I haven't tried this, but will after thinking of it. You may be a able to add a layer to ArcMap from AGOL. Then if you right click that layer you can "create a local copy for editing". Then select all the hydrants, and open the attribute window. Make sure that all the hydrants object names are selected or highlighted in blue in that window that's just above the field names in the attribute window (see below). You should be able to select them by shift or ctrl in that little window. Then select which ever field contains your color-code. I think in your case you would change the inspection field back to "No". Once you make the change then you can "synchronize local edits with server". I have no idea if that will work or not, but they wouldn't make those options available if you couldn't. The only catch is you have to have the Standard license in order to sync those edits back. Hopefully you do.

I reposted the picture. Hopefully you can see it now. I changed the background map so you could see the hydrants better, but the yellow waterline does not standout with this particular basemap. Normally the aerial is behind it. No, I do not have Server. I try to keep this as simple as possible. We're a small outfit (15 employees) and couldn't justify utilizing server financially or with my limited knowledge. I felt good I made it this far. It's been a while since I did this, but I'll try and piece this back together. When I set that layer up in ArcMap, I created a Domain called HydrantInsp and added the previously mentioned categories: Green=good Orange=marginal Red-repair Blue=replace Gray-inspect Yellow=<Null> I left one of the inspection categories off in my previous post, and forgot to include NULL. I added the Hydrant symbol in ArcMap and also the colors. I populated the layer with our existing hydrants. When I did that, they all were colored to NULL (yellow). But eventually all the NULLS should be inspected. Then they can be moved to Gray when they need inspected again. I then published that layer as a service to AGOL. The key for me to get the colors to work was creating the Domain HydrantInsp in the Inspection layer before uploading. I don't think you can create that Domain in AGOL, or you couldn't when I was messing with this last year. Maybe you can now. It changes so fast. The other thing I can't remember is if I had to go in and change the colors again once it was uploaded to AGOL and added to a map. I don't think I did because that symbol came from ArcMap and if you were to try and change the color, I think you would lose that symbol. I'm not 100% sure, but I just tried to mess with it and couldn't change the color without changing the symbol. You mentioned a table. Are you talking about the attribute table of the hydrant layer? The only table (Excel CSV file) I have uploaded are our water meters. I'm messing with this currently. I want to upload a new meter file monthly because we are adding new meters and customers every month. AGOL give you the option to update that file with a new file that writes over the old one. I'm hoping this option then maintains the symbol and color for each of the meters. I have our meters color coded as well based on which tank services that meter. It helps visually when trying to figure out what tank serves what area. I'm not sure I answered your question, but feel free to reply and I'll get back to you. Travis

Yes Kate, you should be able to do that. I have 4 different colors for our hydrant inspection. I have a drop down menu that has the words good, marginal, replace, and inspect. I'm replying to my own message so I don't waste your folks time. This is the first time I've tried using a "solution" so I'm fumbling my way through it. The layer not showing up may have been a small glitch. I simpily deleted the layer, added it back in and presto, it showed up and remained there. I think I was trying to share the wrong map. I should have been sharing from the Drinking Water Advisory Web App and not the Drinking Water Advisory map.

Has anyone used the "Drinking Water Advisory" solution? If I create a Boil Alert on the Drinking Water Alert Web map by drawing a polygon to represent a boil order, save it, and then try to share it, the alert polygon disappears. If I leave that same web map and come back to it, the polygon also disappears, even if I save it. If I go to the Drinking Water Advisory Management map, it will show the polygon that I drew on the Alert map, but shows it as a past alert and not current. Anyone else have this problem, or is there something I'm missing? Also, is there a way to embed or share the map that only shows the polygon and nothing else like water mains and valves. I need those two layers to determine where to draw the polygon, but I don't necessarily need to show the public our infrastructure. Thank you! Travis

Robert, I've been using an iPad with Arrow 100 GNSS receiver (Apple certified) and have had no problems with the receiver passing info to Collector. We also are able to connect to our state department of transportation's RTK service after setting up the profile. Everything has worked fairly well so far. Travis
