Thank you all for your help. The sync error is now gone. After you all walked me through the disable/enable sync on this service via the admin API it took care of the error (Miaogeng and Dhrumil). Thanks again.

Yes, that seems to have gotten me to the correct spot. So within this window of code, I am to delete the word “sync” from the following line of code. I find two instances of this piece of code within the Update Service Definition window. "capabilities" : "Create,Delete,Query,Update,Editing,Sync", Once I delete those two instances, I hit the Update Service Definition button I assume. After I did that I went back to the same URL as below to add the word “sync” back in. But, the word “sync” is already back in the code as if it wasn’t deleted. It doesn’t seem like anything occurred. http://services.arcgis.com/I6MwRSmdA9fof9PW/arcgis/rest/admin/services/REPAIR/FeatureServer/updateDefinition<https://community.esri.com/external-link.jspa?url=http%3A%2F%2Fservices.arcgis.com%2FI6MwRSmdA9fof9PW%2Farcgis%2Frest%2Fadmin%2Fservices%2FREPAIR%2FFeatureServer%2FupdateDefinition> Update Service Definition - REPAIR Note: This operation is only supported via POST Update Service Definition: ASync: True False Format: Travis Anderson

Dhrumil, I’m not sure I understand what to do here. After I login to ArcGIS online, I add the following link to the browser: http://services.arcgis.com/I6MwRSmdA9fof9PW/arcgis/rest/services/REPAIR/FeatureServer/updateDefinition After I hit enter and get the following: ArcGIS REST Services Directory Home<http://services.arcgis.com/I6MwRSmdA9fof9PW/ArcGIS/rest/services> > services<http://services.arcgis.com/I6MwRSmdA9fof9PW/ArcGIS/rest/services> > REPAIR (FeatureServer)<http://services.arcgis.com/I6MwRSmdA9fof9PW/ArcGIS/rest/services/REPAIR/FeatureServer> API Reference<http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-rest-api/> JSON<http://services.arcgis.com/I6MwRSmdA9fof9PW/arcgis/rest/services/REPAIR/FeatureServer/updateDefinition?f=pjson> The requested layer (layerId: updateDefinition) was not found. I’m probably just going to delete the entire layer so I can move on. That layer still shows up on our iPad we use for offline collection even though I only have it “shared” with the ESRI Collector group. I don’t know why that is, but I need to be able to download a offline map, and until I get rid of that layer I’m going to keep getting my sync error. Thanks for your help. Travis Anderson, P.E. Miaogeng, I believe I got accomplished Item 1 in your message. Item 2, however, I get this error below if I have entered it correctly: http://services.arcgis.com/I6MwRSmdA9fof9PW/ArcGIS/rest/services/REPAIR/FeatureServer/0/updateDefinition Am I leaving something off the URL at the end? You have the word capabilities in quotes in your message like it’s a command or special word. I have no experience in what you are asking me to do. I don't mind keeping it, but if it remains, so does my error, correct? I tried unsharing it with the organization, but kept it shared with the esri group. But it still shows up in the field map for the organization. I'll see what I can do. Sent from my iPhone

I'm guessing it has something to do with the layer "REPAIR". There's nothing different with this layer compared to the rest that I know of. I deleted the original download and created another small offline map. When I sync back, whether adding anything or not, the error is the same as before in the above posted screen shot (Sync Error-Unable to synchronize replica.Sync replica internal error - {5b588d62-b55e-4ef2-9186-4bdbdff1b78e} Below is taken from the ArcGIS REST Services Directory for the layer "REPAIR". Replica Name: MyReplica_22, Replica ID: 5b588d62-b55e-4ef2-9186-4bdbdff1b78e Replica Name: MyReplica_51, Replica ID: e5fca963-003e-4782-b3dd-9f076450c22f Replica Name: MyReplica_65, Replica ID: ca81a6ce-35a4-4269-9d0a-12ab3bf77d16 I'm not sure I completely understand this, but when I create and download a tiled map can I assume that it creates a replica of the layers? Why would there be 3 Replicas? Maybe I should just delete this layer entirely from my map and re-upload it. Is there anything I can use in the Supported Operations to delete the replica? Miaogeng, Would that only be shared with the ESRI Collector team and not the world? I have to be cautious with security since we are a water utility. Thanks!

Russ, I really appreciate the reply. I think I figured out what you were asking me to do. I went and checked each layer/service replica. Each layer had a replica except for one I believe. But, a layer called "Repair" had two replicas, and one of them happened to be the same ID as contained in the error. How would I resolve that so I don't get the error? When you create/download an offline map, is that when AGOL creates the replica? Thanks for the help!

I'm using an iPad Air running iOS 9.2, and Collector 10.3.6 with a external Arrow 100 GNSS receiver. I have downloaded maps and worked offline in the previous months (October-November) and haven't had any issues. Worked wonderfully! Since then there's been an update to iOS and a new release of Collector, both of which I installed. Now, if I download a map to use offline, and collect a new point (valve or hydrant) and then try to sync that point I get the following error: An error occurred while trying to synchronizing edits. Unable to synchronize replica. Sync replica error I don't actually have to gather a point. I still get the same error if I hit the sync button with nothing to sync. My layers are pretty basic. They are just hosted feature layers on AGOL. They have not been modified from when they were initially uploaded in August. Besides updating the OS and Collector, the only thing that I have tried different was setting up a iPad mini. I downloaded an offline map to use in the field, and when testing it in the office this week I got the error for the first time. I had not tried syncing the existing iPad Air offline after the new updates were installed (iOS and Collector), so I don't know if I would have received the error before I set up the mini or not. I do receive the error on both now. Neither are logged in at the same time. I have noticed that even though I get the error, the collected feature does make it to AGOL. I'm not sure if it's every time or not. I'll have to check. I currently have no issues collecting data if I'm connected to internet service in the field. Anyone else having the same issue or any thoughts as to what might be causing this?

I'll keep that in mind. We don't have a lot of data, but I'm not exactly sure what a lot is. I think the largest dataset we would have is our water meters that we are still acquiring (6900 meters) (800 valves, 600 hydrants/flush hydrants, 500 miles of watermain). I guess the main thing that we would pick up, would be new assests like water taps and meters, and repairs. Everything else, except for all of the meters have been gathered. I'm pretty much a novice at all this. I haven't had an training or classes; I'm just trying to figure this out as I go. I follow completely what you are saying about creating the workflow, and having to sync it back. That's good advice. Maybe doing it manually is the better way to proceed instead of having the magic button. You at least have control and an idea of what is going on with respect to writing over your data. The magic button may create a magic problem that can't be fixed. I'll heed your warning. Thanks again Robert. I really appreciate your insight.

We haven't put it out in the field yet, so I anticipate some issues. I'm taking baby steps with this whole process. I'm still deciphering the process of having to take maps "offline". We are in southeast Ohio where the trees and hills do not lend themselves to consistent internet connections. I appreciate the recommended tool. It sounds very handy. Unfortunately I think it is only for Standard and above. Maybe one of these days I'll have enough in my noggin to justify the upgrade.

Robert, Is Attribute Assistant a Basic or Standard feature? Are you actively using Collector to gather field data? I have a EOS Arrow 100 receiver using an RTK connection that is connected to an iPad by Bluetooth. I'm getting really good accuracy, and the interface is easy to use. But if I want to edit a point or add additional information to an attribute, there's no way to do that in Desktop Basic, outside of exporting a file for the desktop, importing it, and then exporting back again as a hosted feature. You can create a local copy from the hosted service, make edits within Desktop and then sync it back to the hosted service, but they disabled this feature in Basic. I would like to see how well that works in Standard, but spending an extra $5,500 for one small feature seems to excessive to me.
