Hi everyone, I realise that this isn't supported yet, but I'm wondering if anyone else encountered this issue and has a solution. I've installed and licensed ArcGIS Server 10.1 on a Windows 8 Release Candidate virtual machine. I then opened up ArcGIS Server Manager and attempted to configure a new site. After I get to the Configuration Summary screen and click Next, I get the following error: Failed to create the site. Failed to configure the server machine 'WIN8RELCAN.LOCALDOMAIN'. Server machine 'WIN8RELCAN.LOCALDOMAIN' is not a local server machine. Any ideas? Thanks, Jon.

Hi Jonathan, This is a 10.1 toolbox. Is that maybe why you can't see the contents? I've saved the toolbox as a 10.0 toolbox and attached. Thanks, Jon.

In ArcMap 10.1, when sharing a map document as a tile package, the extent of the tile package is limited to the display extent in the map. The Create Map Tile Package geoprocessing tool does not appear to respect the Processing Extent environment setting. It would be helpful to provide other means of limiting the tile package extent, such as the options provided by the Processing Extent environment setting.

I've created a small prototype to test accessing ArcGIS Runtime functionality from within a WPF application plug-in. I've created a simple add-in that, when invoked, creates a LocalGeometryService and calls StartAsync. After the application loads, after a few seconds an unhandled CannotUnloadAppDomainException occurs: System.CannotUnloadAppDomainException was unhandled
Message=Error while unloading appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131015)
Source=mscorlib
StackTrace:

at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()
InnerException: If the add-in doesn't call StartAsync on the LocalGeometryService, then the exception does not occur. Ideas on why this is happening? Thanks, Jon. Following is some of the output from the application (truncated to fit within the post):

Hi Dippan, You're right -- if the service is edited, I believe that the endpoints will be regenerated. I'm not too concerned about this -- the service definitions won't change frequently (if at all) in the target system. Thanks, Jon.

Hi Dippan, Thanks for your thoughts on this. Isn't it possible to create the different endpoints by specifying multiple capabilities for the service (Feature Access, KML, WFS)? Then you access the same service via different URLs that each give you a different capability / protocol. I agree that not just providing the WFS and KML capabilities via ArcGIS Server does complicate the architecture. I think that the reasons are more ideological than pragmatic. Good point on failover -- I'll have to mull that one over a bit. Thanks, Jon.

I'm trying to design a feature service that will be consumed by multiple clients: some of them will be ArcGIS clients like an Engine application, and others will be non-ArcGIS clients that support open formats like WFS or KML. My initial thought was to define an ArcGIS Server feature service that provided the various endpoints for the different clients (including providing native support for ArcGIS clients). However, my customer wishes to remain "independent" of ArcGIS Server for the non-ArcGIS clients. This could be accomplished by providing 2 implementations of the service: one feature service hosted in ArcGIS Server, and another generic web service hosted by IIS or Apache that provides the open end points. However, I would strongly prefer not to provide 2 implementations of the same service just to get the different endpoints. Are there any good patterns for achieving these design goals? Any suggestions on how to approach this? Thanks, Jon.

I have a model that I wish to run in a batch process. Within this model, I join an input table to another table, then calculate a value in the input table. When running this model a single time, it works correctly. I can calculate the field value in the input table using the expression [%Join Table%].FieldName. However, when I run this model in a batch process, it seems that each instance of the model is run in parallel, so that multiple joins are performed on the input table at the same time. As a result, I can't be sure of the names of the fields in the join table, and so the batch process fails. Is there any way to force a batch to run each instance separately? Thanks, Jon.

Ricardo, Also take a look at the Local Government Data Model, particularly the Street Network portion. As Derek indicates, the Transportation Data Model is likely to have much of what you're looking for. However, it seems to me that it's heavily weighted towards the requirements of higher levels of government, so you'll likely need to do some heavy customization to meet your own requirements for local government. I'd be interested to learn more about what your requirements are and how you might be able to tailor these models to your needs. Please contact me directly if you'd like to discuss further.

In this case, maybe try using the SelectionSet class. You could try something like this: Get a SelectionSet of the features you've selected from the FeatureLayer using the IFeatureSelection.SelectionSet property. Use the ISelectionSet.Combine method to create a new SelectionSet containing the features that are unselected. You'll need to create a new SelectionSet with your FeatureLayer's FeatureClass as the target, and another to contain the results of the combine operation. You might have to experiment with which SelectionSet to call the Combine method on to get the correct result. Apply the resulting SelectionSet to your FeatureLayer using the IFeatureSelection.SelectionSet property.
