In ArcGIS we can naviage to next or previous view. Sometimes we make changes to an MXD in a given session, for one reason or another, but we only do it for testing or to perform a given function. When we want to go back to the way the MXD was at the beginning of the session we have to exit without saving the MXD. I would like to see the ability to roll back the MXD settings as they were when the session started without having to save an exit. As a bonus have a user interface that allows the option to roll complety back including starting extent or just roll back all settings other than extent.

You can create a Definition Query to show features that match a Defintion and you can write it in a format to look at parts of the attribute. Example: I have a number of points with location info. A part of each point has the section it is supposed to be in. You can write a Definition query to only show those points in which the correct part of the attribute matches your criteria. What I would like to see in the Symbology tab is the ability to create symbol values based on the query. Example. CustomerNumber is 06-02-101 with 02 being the section number. Write a query such as mid(CustomerNumber,4,2). Each point would now be symbolized based on the 4th and 5th character of the attribute. This is a simple example but the idea would allow you to quickly and easily change symbology without having to create a new attribute and populating it with a calculation.

I also like this idea. What I envision from what you suggest is having a special tool that you can select the dynamic lable with and you manuall place it where you want. I would further envision a setting such that when you have moved it a given distance a leader will pop into place. As a refinment to the suggestion what it may result in is placing a Rotation Angle and a Distance from the feature into the feature. For point features it would Add a value to the Rotation field, which could be either straight or horizontal or perpendicular Alignment Type. And then add a distance. Until it happens here is what I do and it works very well. I add a LablerRotation and LableAngle attribute and make them both short integers. You can even domain them with a range from 0 to 359. I then go to every point that has a lable issue and specify a LableRotation...using a Horizontal Allignment. For Points that a Straight Allignment would work better I enter a value for LableAngle. I set up rules in labels, if <LableAngle is Null and LableRotation is not Null> then it will lable based on rotation etc... the component I would like to see added is the ability to set the distance based on a field. Your proposition is a WYSIWYG format that would be very handy indeed. But for now give my idea a shot. I do it based on the output scale that is most common. i.e. township level. It may be cumbersom at first. but once I set everything it stays. When you zoom out it will then cause overlap, but any that you zoom in it will maintain its integrity.

there is merit, however I think symbology needs to stay focused on attributes What your asking is a very common practice in AutoCAD and I can tell you from experience that in AutoCAD when a technician changes a symbol for a selected attribute insted of moving it to the proper layer it causes innumerable errors down the road. However, doing so in ArcGIS would only change it in an MXD and not permanently in a database so I think it would be workable. I have done something similar in the past. I created and attribute to symbolize off of. I then created all the varaiations in symbology for the values I was going to need. then I could select a number of featurs and give them the appropiate attribute and they would all change.

You can change the font and font size in ArcCatalog under Customize. However, as you ask it will not change the font in the directory tree. That is a system setting on your computer and by defuat is dependent on your resolution setting. If you click on search files and programs for Font Size Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display should open up. Here you can increase your font size but it will increast it for everything.

ArcGisDiagrammer will show you these things. It is not a terribly friendly program but it does this. There used to be a database reporter tool for 9.3 that was the cats meow. It would list each feature class and the attributes and each domain for those attributes. It was replaced by ArcGisDiagrammer. Yes it was a step backwards

With more and more users going to larger and larger monitors we now have room to dock more items and help increase ease of use. Others have posted to make specific windows dockable, I would ask that we have the ability to dock any window. Other than processes that are Dialog windows which called up and ran from ArcTool Box. i.e. we don't need to dock the XY to Line Dialog Often I find myself with Find, Select by Attributes and Select By location up all the time becuase I am using them a lot. It would be great to dock them alongside other windows like Attributes, Templates, etc... However, it is great that we can now take these windows out side of the ArcGIS window and put them in other monitors.

I would like to know if there is a way to create a visible virtual link between related objects. Example. I have 9000 service locations that each have a Transformer_ID displaying the id of the transformer that is serving that location. I have 3000 transformers that serve those 9000 service locations and each has a unique Transformer_ID What I would like to see is a way to visually display which service location is related or joined to a given transformer. Not so much for mapping purposes but for error checking. My current method is to create X,Y for both features, join them based on Transformer_ID, then export the joined table as a .txt and from the .txt do xy to line and create the links. I can then go through the map and quickly find any errors.

When working in an mxd that has data driven pages active I would like to see an option to have the export or print option only export or print the current visible extent rather than the full extent of the Data Driven page (DDP). Exmaple, A client of mine wanted a pdf of sections 13, 14, and 15 on Map 19. Option 1: Create a special DDP polygon of those sections in the Current DDP feature, Refresh the pages, print/export, delete the new DDP Option 2: Disable DDP, clear out or modify the text features that were pointing to a DDP attribute. Print/Export what you need. close mxd without saving. Option 3: Maintain a separate MXD for printing/exporting special maps without DDP's Option 4: When selecting Export Map and the Export Map dialog opens up. Under the Pages Tab have a radial button with the choice to print/export the page with the DDP attributes however it does not zoom to the full extent. Option 4 does not exist but this is what I envision.

I have done a lot of work with geocoding. Good idea this but it would be horribly horribly inaccurate. Unless you could get a centerline address source that is broken at each number and you were taking your gps point at the exact line segment. However, this applies to the Number portion of the address. You should be albe to get road name, county, country etc from a gps point. Just not the number portion of the address.

I see a lot of people posting solutions wiht Python but I really have no idea what to do witht he script you posted. I used to write VB and looking at the script you posted it lookas as though it is only going to search a specified database.
