Check first to make sure you attributes are both the same type of data in the attribute properties. i.e. String, Integer, ETC... I have two fields (text) which have the land use of two different years but the area is same...Now i want to calculate the difference in a new field....How can i do that.... PS:I tried with field calculator (-) command but nothing happens...

find some locations in your CAD drawing that can be located in the real world. best case scenario would be sections. Go to those sections in ArcGIS. Add the DWG and use the georefrencing toolbar to georeference it to the sections IF you don't know how to do that and are decent with CAD In the CAD drawing create a POINT at a known 2 locations that you can find in the real world. Section corners would be best. Go to the Sections in ArcGIS and create those same points. Export your sections and the points as shapefiles and import them into your CAD drawing. Lock The sections and Point. hint, import the sections as closed polylines and not has hatched polygons. You want to lock them so they don't move. now do Zoom Extents. Your DWG and the sections will probably be tiny little points somewhere. Figure out which is which. Select the entire CAD part and move it NEAR the sections and points. HINT make sure none of the CAD layers are locked, just the imported sections and points. Now grab your cad layers and make your anchor one of the points. MOVE the drawing so it is anchored on the corresponding imported point. Now use the SCALE function to rescale the other point to the corresponding other point and then rotate if necessary. Once you have the CAD drawing lined up to the imported locations you can either exports the various lines points blocks texts etc as shape files or you can open the autocad drawing in ArcGIS and then proceed to bring the features in the GIS. I know this may sound cumbersome but it works. I have converted a lot of autocad drawings that were not referenced. The worst one was the peoples who made the original CAD drawing used millimeters instead of feet as drawing units. Everything was to scale but really tiny and it was not referenced. When first brought in it appeared on the equator. Hi, I am new to GIS. i have a AutoCad file which needs to be converted in GeoDatabase. This CAD file dont have spatial reference.i tried converting this CAD file in geodatabase by "CAD to Geodatabase" tool. I have few question 1. Any other way for conversion from CAD to Geodatabase 2. The Output are in annotation, point,Polyline, polygon, multipatch. my requirment needs data only in point, line, polygon. Any suggestion. 3. How to georeference the Converted Geodatabase to ESRI online basemaps Thanks in advance.

You probably need to install the fonts on the machine that are being used. They are is a large selection of ESRI Fonts that are associated with the document. Or you may be able to embed the fonts in the PDF when exporting. I am using ArcGIS Server 10.2.1 with Internet Explorer Browser and the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. I created a custom Print Geoprocessing Service set to export map to PDF as the default. It works fine. But, when I view the results after creating a PDF from Flex Viewer 3.6 the Map Point Symbols in the Legend look very strange. Nothing like they show on the map. The Map Line Symbol shows up good in the legend. It is just the Point Symbols that do not look right. Any ideas why this is happening?

Compress your database, you should unregister as versioned those what you wish to delete. compress it again. shut down all programs accessing the SDE, compress it and try it again. if that does not work go into SQL Server Configuration Manager and restart the service. That will issue a kill command to anything connected. Where is the feature class in use? If it's in your map document then you probably need to disconnect the layer from its data source (IDataLayer2.Disconnect) and delete it from the map.

Have you been directed to this link? http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline/credits/estimator there is no simple answer to credit cost. I manage one of my clients ArcGIS accounts and all we do is upload date to the system 2 or 3 times a year and then they access it from 4G enabled laptops in their trucks. Their use is very basic and simple and they don't access it quite a lot. Their credit usage in the last year is only 50 credits with 2 people using it. Uploading data uses the most credits for them IF you use tiled services that is where you really chew up the credits. The biggest issue with ArcGIS online is you do not get labels. Hello, I've been doing a lot of research on credit use and cannot seem to find a detailed breakdown of credit usage. My organization has 30 members (which is difficult to manage with the current tools), fortunately we have kept our credit usage to a minimum. However, we are starting to rack up a lot of credit usage with Features. I've looked at the usage statistics plenty of times but it does not show what we are being charged for, is it for creating features, publishing features, storing features, accessing features or is it for all of the above and what part of the feature are we being charged for? The graph shows credit usage on days where nothing was published by any 30 of the users (which is a pain to track down in the first place seeing as there is no way to view a user's individual usage), sometimes it's sustained over several days, ie. 6.14 credits for 4 or 5 days. What is this from? I've been to all the ESRI credit description pages and help pages, viewed the videos (which I might add do not accurately represent the tools of AGOL, since the Spatial Analysis option to view 'the usage of analytics by users and apps within your organization' does not work) and have been searching through forums and articles. I would really like a detailed honest answer of what is going on and not another link to the unhelpful descriptions ESRI has on its webpage. TL;DR 1. What are the credit charges for Features ( Access, publishing, storing, uploading or creating) 2. What part of a feature is charged (Features, service definitions, features used in maps etc.) 3. Why are there sustained charges over several days with the same number of credits? -Mike

What I like about the spreadsheet though is it allows you to see all 12,000 symbol options all at one time. You can scan the printed sheets to find the symbol that you want. The font set is some 54 fonts including WingDings. The (Windows) Accessories/System Tools Character Map tool also shows you all the symbols for your installed fonts. It also lets you copy and paste the one you choose, so you can skip the Alt- and character number step.

When you click the measurement tool on the right is a drop down selection Planar, Loxodrome, geodesic and great eliptic. By default it should be set to Planar. Try the other 3 out. Okay so I measured the image with the measure tool and it said that it was 735 by 680 meters and the image is 735 by 680 PIXELS when I look at the image properties and I double checked with NASA's JPL website. So I think that Arc is already measuring in pixels, it's just saying that it's in meters. So now I should just have to measure the shadow which will give me the number of pixels and then subsequently multiply that number by 135 meters/pixel to get the height of the scarp. I think I've got it figured out. Thanks for your help. (P.S. let me know if I am way off!)

Which planet? There are a number of projections out there for different planets. then you can just project the image and use the regular measurement tool I am creating a map and I need to tell ArcGIS that each pixel is 135 meters across so that I can take some measurements. To be more specific, I have an image taken by a spacecraft of another planet's terrain. I basically need to tell ArcGIS what the resolution of the image is. How do I do this? Thanks in advance!

Export it to a text file. open it in word. Replace the commas with tabs and the space with tabs if that is correct for you. Add the column headers at the top and import it back in. Hello! I am working with a table and I would like to get this: number(stored as text) Code Year 0500, 0600, 0700 ABC1 2012 to this: number Code Year 0500 ABC1 2012 0600 ABC1 2012 0700 ABC1 2012 I have gotten to where I can insert each number/space/comma into a new row but obviously I need it to break it at the commas. Ideas?

Our systems are in Windows XP and using 10.2 and I made an PMF and brought the database home and ran it on my Windows 8.1 Laptop and it worked very well. However with a tablet you typically don't have the graphics power of a computer. I would suggest staying away from Windows RT. Look for a device that has full windows on it and a more robust GPU. The good stuff will cost you a bit more, but it will work better. I personally like these http://www.msi.com/product/windpad/W20_3M.html#/?div=Specification has anyone tried to use ArcReader 10.2 on a Windows 8.1 tablet. One of my clients want to get tablets and use ArcReader on them but I am not certain if things will work. I am using ArcGIS 10.2 on a Windows XP machine. We have had zero issues with 10.2 Right now we are considering a Dell Venue 8 Pro (32GB)

At a minimum I would suggest the Standard Version. It is what was called ArcEditor. You will find you have a lot more processes available to you than with the Basic Version. And, as stated previously you would strongly want to consider getting away from ShapeFiles and progressing into a Geodatabase. There are a LOT more processes available to you now with 10.2 than were there with 9.3 and you may want to explore those different processes as not all of them are available with Standard. As well as some of the new extensions. At the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, we are still using ArcGIS 9.3. I have been asked to investigate upgrading from ArcView 9.3 license (with 3D and Spatial analyst extensions) to ArcGIS 10.2.1 (with same extensions), but have a couple questions that need clarifying before deciding which of the new licenses is appropriate. Presently, we use ArcView 9.3 for geologic mapping; importing GPS data, creating/editing shapfiles and overlaying them on various basemaps, e.g., satellite images or aerial photographs. In addition, we also import, modify and create elevation models from point cloud data (e.g., ascii files, Lidar/photogrammetry data and meshes/TINs). These are then used for calculating volume changes as a result of volcanic activity. All of this data is presently stored in a somewhat logical folder structure on a Windows PC and used in scientific publications and educational/outreach material which sometimes involves creating KML files. Normal, only one person is working on the data (me) and 1 or 2 others use the data for making maps. I am currently running the 10.2.1 trial, but this is for the Advanced version and does not show me the limitations of the Basic or Standard versions. I would like to know: Is it recommended to store data inside geodatabases? (I can read the folder structure and use the data it contains in 10.2.1 without a problem) If answer to above is yes, is the Standard version (which I am favouring at the moment) appropriate (i.e. not overkill), given my described use of ArcView 9.3? Thanks, Adam

Null value would do it. Glad it worked out for you. Robert, I ran it on one and it worked. I found a sneaky null value in the elevation fields! Thank you for all of your help talking me through this.Probably the easiest problem you've helped with today 🙂 Thanks again!!! Dana

I will assume your Invert values are your elevations. Are they also a double or integer? As well as your length field Have you verified that all the Invert and length fields have values. Try this ((abs([From_Invert] -[To_Invert]))/[Length])*100 Select just one feature in your table and run it on just that. For length are you using the shape length or a calculated length. If you still get the error run it again but instead of using shapelenght put in some number like 150 Robert, Thank you for your prompt reply. All of the fields are doubles. I have attached a screen shot of the error I get when running the field calculator with the exact formula from my original post. Thanks again, Dana

I just use the simple Slope= RISE/RUN and multiply that times 100 to get a % RISE = change in elevation RUN = Distance So what your doing looks right. What is the attribute you are trying to do it in? It should be a double precision. If it is a long or short integer or may not work. I am attempting to calculate the slope of sewer lines. I am apparently missing some fundamentals of vb to get the syntax correct. I have fields: From_Invert To_Invert Length (calculated) The mathematical equation (rise/run) should be something like this: (([From_Invert] -[To_Invert])/[Length])*100 I can't get it to fly in the field calculator. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Dana

You will probably have to go to each states DOT for that data. I know in my state even though Interstates are Federal roads our DOT manages the traffic flow. However, I don't think they do a constant collection of traffic flow. 1. Looking for a file with Lat-Lon for US Interstate Interchanges. 2. Looking for a file with traffic counts passing each Interstate Interchange. Any sources you folks are aware of?
