Thanks for responding @OwenGeo. I'm trying to create a story map of campgrounds that resembles the classic Shortlist template using an "as-is" data source. All of the elements to be displayed in the story map already exist in the attribute columns of the source feature class: X/Y location, Title, Short Description, Description, Tab Name, Image URL, Link URL, Symbol Color, etc., etc. The feature class is built from master tables that also drive other products such as downloadable PDFs built, web pages, and internal operations dashboards and data entry forms. All of these other products are fed through Adobe InDesign, Drupal, PowerBI and so on. (This is the desired future state, we're not there on all fronts.) In terms of publishing the story maps, the work of the geo analyst should only be designing the story and map elements, not inputting the data.

@OwenGeo where specifically are the images (and the descriptions and all the other components) stored? I want to edit and update them in a data driven way from feature classes where the authoritative content exists. Copy and paste item by item is very time consuming and error prone.

Yep, me too. I'm in the situation where I want to use some features of the deprecated classic story maps that aren't present in the current version and can't wait until Esri gets around to implementing it (which might be never).

Probably hopeless. Does the "use the point data 'as-is'" option for the Shortlist story map application still exist? The readme and the FAQ says "choose Create Web App, and select the Story Map Shortlist app from the gallery of apps. If your web map contains one or more point layers, you'll be prompted to choose how you want to proceed. You'll see three options: ..." which are supposed to be: Import the point data Use the point data 'as-is' Don't use the point data as places I do not get this prompt. I get directed straight into the Shortlist Builder where everything must be entered manually.

In ArcGIS Online how do I set symbol colour from an attribute column? (or an Arcade expression) The features are broken into classes by a text Type attribute and styled with marker symbols. In my table I have a column of html/css hex colour values to read from. I want each symbol to be coloured according to that column. I'm trying to replicate what it looks like in Pro using Attribute-driven color in symbology:

There is now the mobile geodatabase, a huge step. I've not trialed them yet to to see how many of the situations where I would use personal gdb now, but from the docs it looks like most of my use cases are covered. Thanks!

Oh. That's wierd. How can these be successor to Esri/Classic story maps if they can't be data driven? Well thanks for letting me know I wasn't just being dense! I can file this idea to the toy bin now and go back to finding a real solution.

I'm confused. How does one create an ArcGIS Story Map from a point layer? I don't want to add slides one at a time and type in a bunch of text blocks. All the content I need already exists in an attribute table: headings, locations, descriptive text, links, media, and more. How do I feed that into https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories?

Please allow Pro to edit the actual marker that makes the symbol -- the polygon shape geometry that makes the symbol -- in a manner similar to ArcMap's Marker Editor. Recognizing it's probably too much of a development effort to do this within Pro (else it would be done already) how about a quick way to export to an external editor? Within Symbology Properties we can already "insert shape from file" [ref] from an external file like SVG or EMF (and PNG etc. for picture symbols). However this doesn't help in the situation where we want to start from and modify an existing symbol. This is the more common scenario.

I get this same error message in a similar situation with Pro v2.7. I also cannot find a reference to "ERROR 001841" in the documentation. After having fought with joins and relationship classes many times over the years without a lot of success I'm coming to the view that's it's more effecient time and aggravation -wise to never use these features, and instead rely on scripts or models to push the changes to the downstream tables and feature classes.
