I'm having some trouble with the views (or slides) in my Story Map Cascade. I understand when I duplicate, or add new views I should be able to change the appearance of each so they appear independent of one another. However, when I change the appearance in one view, it seems to replicate across all views that reference the same web map which is very frustrating. Where am I going wrong? I have success with changing the map extent across different views, but as soon as I click Manage > Edit and change the symbology of a layer from dots to a heat map, the heat map appearance is replicated across ALL views referencing this same web map. I only want the symbology to be updated in one slide. Surely I don't have to create a new web map for each slide containing new symbology?

I hadn't initially enabled the 'Sync' operation because my users won't be able to 'Update' the feature service. I do want them to be able to extract the feature layer in its entirety in the event the performance of the service is preventing them from performing their analysis effectively. Does this mean the 'Sync' option must be enabled? I ran through the process of republishing the service with 'Sync' checked on, but when I analyzed my MXD I had a high severity warning stating 'Layer is not configured for or cannot be use with the Sync capability', so I did not progress any further. I'm guessing this is because the feature class is not registered with my enterprise database. I'm reluctant to go through the process of registering the feature class just to test if enabling the 'Sync' operation allows me to do what I want to do. Surely a user should be able to extract a feature service without the need to enable the 'Sync' operation?

Shan, Yes, I think I neglected to mention this in my initial post. The MaxRecordCount and Maximum Sample Size was bumped up to 100,000 respectively to account for the extant ~25,000 records and anticipated 'rate of growth'. I understand the Default settings for these parameters are 1,000. I tried playing around with the 'pooling' parameters as well, but still not having much luck being able to extract this dataset in it's entirety, or run analysis on the entire dataset without the process falling over.

The source feature class has approximately 25,000 records. Because no output is generated, I'm not able to determine how many records the server is returning. Today I even got a slightly different error message in ArcMap: The message received in the Portal Map Viewer when attempting Analysis > Manage Data > Extract Data (extract entire contents to a FGDB) is: "Error. Accessing URL http://....../FeatureServer/0/query failed with error ERROR: code: 500, Error performing query operation, Internal server error.. ExtractData failed."

I have successfully published a Feature Service from a feature class containing several thousand records. I know that the feature class in the database that the service is published from, is approximately 60MB. When I am attempting to extract the entirety of the Feature Service either from ArcMap (via right click > export to feature class) or from the Analysis tools in Map Viewer, I am presented with the following errors after approximately 60 seconds: No output is generated. Investigating the ArcGIS Server Manager logs reveals the following: Level Message Source SEVERE Error performing query operation Error handling service request :java.lang.OutofMemoryError: Java heap space Rest SEVERE Instance of service 'Folder/NameOfService.MapServer' failed to process a request Folder/NameOfService.MapServer I suspected the issue could be related to the heap size of the SOCs noting that ~60MB might have been a heavy load to request from my server. A bit more investigation led me to this Technical Support article which suggests bumping the maximum SOC heap size from the default 64MB. However, even after bumping up the maximum SOC heap size, the same timeout issues persist. I am able to extract a smaller selection of features from the Feature Service, just not the entirety. What might be causing this problem I am experiencing?

Why does the Story Map Journal not support uploading images from the computer? Has this been resolved 3 years later? I'm still struggling to upload images.

Hi Jake, I am using version 10.5.1. I am discovering more reasons to move to 10.6, but unfortunately its probably not going to happen soon. Any way it is easily tweaked in 10.5.1? Understood, thanks. I see the Maps and Apps Gallery will actually replace the index.html page, rather than the gallery.html page as well. This is probably OK for my purpose, so will look into this a bit more. It's a shame the default gallery isn't easily configurable with a choice of templates or layouts. Ideally I want my users to be able to easily distinguish what type of content an item is (e.g. WMS, Image Service, Mapping Layer, Web Mapping Application etc) without having to dig into the details page, however I would also like to retain a similar layout to the default thumbView, rather than the listView (which does provide a better indication of what type of content an item is), but involves more scrolling down the page.

2 scenarios for consideration: I wish to change the default tab on the default Gallery so that it is always pointing at "My Organization's Featured Content" instead of "Esri Featured Content". How is this possible? Alternatively, I would like to replace the default Gallery page with the ESRI Maps and App Gallery however I can not find any information on how to replace the default Gallery page. How can I do this?

I want to add a disclaimer pop-up dialog box that all users must acknowledge before being able to navigate the rest of the portal. How might this be possible in the most simple way? Can it be done utilising the out-of-the-box Portal for ArcGIS install? Is there a tutorial somewhere?

I am attempting to configure my Printing Utility Service. In My Organization > Edit Settings > Utility Services, I have successfully added the URL of my print service. When I click refresh, a list of default print templates is shown. When I go into Map within the Portal, and click Print, I can see all the print templates. However when I select one, I get the following error: "An error occurred while creating the printed map." Where am I going wrong? Why am I unable to print from the default templates? I'm not concerned with setting up custom templates at this stage... I changed the print service back to default by removing the Utility Service URL. Then when I attempt to print from the Map Viewer, I am presented with this:

I am familiar with the explanation of properties on this page: Set advanced portal options—Portal for ArcGIS (10.5.x) | ArcGIS Enterprise However I was hoping there might be some more detailed explanation for all the other properties found within the Portal for ArcGIS config.js file. Is there somewhere that documents all the properties in detail?

My AD account was added to the AD group about the time the portal was created. The portal has been stopped and started several times since. The administrator that created the group is the only person that seems to be able to link content to it. Likewise when I create a separate group with the same AD Enterprise Group for users, I am the only person that can link content to it.
