Hi all, I have an XYZ point feature class representing bathymetry. I have applied a label expression to label the points in the same fashion as soundings on a nautical chart. For example, the label above represent a depth of 3.8 metres. What I want to do is color the labels so they graduate throughout the depth range as you might see on a coloured fair sheet. For instance, a shallow sounding might be a red colour, whilst a deep sounding might be a blue colour. How can I link a color ramp to my labels?

Thank you, I was eventually able to figure out where I was going wrong. I ensured the tool was installing to: C:\Users\<username>\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\Desktop10.2. Turns out the tool was installing correctly, however I was looking for a new toolbar, and not an actual tool/command. Unfortunately there were no instructions telling me what to look for, however I found it here. Only problem now is the tool crashes ArcMap whenever I click the button!

I am hoping there is a simple way to create a polygon (feature class or shapefile) from the extent of the data frame in layout mode. I know it is possible to view the bounding coordinates for the data frame and plot a polygon that way, however this is quite a laborious task which can be automated. I discovered this tool http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=0dcb445291bf461bb573b1504c170e0c however when I install the Add-in I'm unable to see any new extensions or toolbars added. I am using version 10.2.2

I've noticed that add-ins can be installed under legacy versions of ArcGIS as well, I'm assuming depending on what version the add-in itself it was created in. For instance, if you are using 10.2, and have never installed previous versions of ArcGIS, it's possible for custom add-ins to be installed under "C:\Users\-- your username --\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\Desktop10.0 C:\Users\-- your username --\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\Desktop10.1" At leat this is what I have found. Be sure to check all folders for add-ins. It's annoying when the 'remove' or 'delete' button is disabled for custom add-ins and you have to manually find where it's been installed on the machine and delete from that location.

If you have the .dwg file, you can load it into ArcMap. Set your page layout size and orientation as per the dwg. Then convert the relevant titleblock pieces (i.e. the polylines) to graphics by right clicking on the feature in the Table of Contents. In Data View, turn off the original dwg layer, select all the graphics and click copy. Go into Layout View and paste outside of the data frame. The features should appear close to the page extents. Some minor tweaking may be required to fit the features to the page.

Hi all, This question has come up a lot, but I am struggling to find a working solution to what should be a simple problem. Scenario: I have a file geodatabase with 100 feature classes. I want to add a field to each feature class and call it "Name" I then want to calculate the field "Name" with the actual name of the feature class, for each feature class in the geodatabase. I'm not a whiz at python and model builder, but have more luck with the latter. Any help appreciated. I've seen a few suggestions in other forums to use VB Script in the field calculator and have for example: Name = "%Name%" , however this seems to produce a field that is populated with "%Name%" instead of the actual name of the feature class.

Well, I was able to answer my own question. The World Magnetic Model 2015-2020 coefficients were being installed to a separate location, and were not overwriting the existing WMM.xml file that the Declination Tool was looking for. i.e. I had 2 x WMM.xml files located in different places. After searching for, and updating the WMM.xml file that the Declination tool uses, everything works as expected. This has since raised a new problem however, in that my Grid North does not point straight up, but rather True North does, despite the UTM projection...

Thanks Dan, This is particularly helpful. I have installed the Patch, as well as the World Magnetic Model coefficient update. I followed the steps exactly as you outlined, but still no luck...

I also have a similar issue to this. It appears when using principal digits, that the offset reference point is either the top or bottom of the principal digits, as opposed to the centroid of the entire label. Is there a fix or workaround for this? I have two grids on the same map, and the gap between each grid labels is inconsistent when viewed on the left and right sides of the map, despite the the same offset values applying to the whole map.

I wish to label my geographic coordinates (DMS) on my graticule with only principal digits showing, except for the corner labels - much in the same way it can be done with MGRS grid. How is this possible without: using an XML in the 'Make Grids and Graticules Layer' tool or converting the grid to a graphic and editing?

Hi all, I have downloaded the Declination Diagram toolbox for ArcGIS 10.2 and am having some difficulties with it's execution. I follow the instructions provided and have copied the elements into my map. When running the tool in my projected map (UTM z XX), it does calculate True North and a centroid for my map, however the tool calculates the Magnetic Declination Angle in Decimal Degrees as 'None', and hence it spits out the following: Magnetic Declination Angle in Decimal Degrees = None Annual Drift = None Magnetic Declination Direction = W Exception : int() argument must be a string or a number, not 'NoneType' The tool fails to execute. Can anybody offer any suggestions as to why the tool is calculating the magnetic declination angle as None?
