Wowzers. Yeah wouldn't be the first time when users have well functioning scripts and procedures in place and ESRI decides to change things up; "VBA -> SDK and .Net". In this case although the learning curve was steep, the benefits outweigh the inconveniences in the end. However, ArcGIS Pro will bring some other SDK and development platform and a framework that's complacently incompatible with legacy version and this time not only will users encounter a learning curve to SDK / development environment but also "no more ArcObjects?" Will we have to re-write our tools ground up? So instead of focusing on GIS work and how to do things more efficiently we will be waste time on migration strategies. My questions, in addition to the points you already made, is: What about imagery? In our remote area of interest ArcGIS Earth has the same old crappy medley of inferior ESRI, and mostly winter and black and white, imagery rather that the up to date and superior imagery Google Earth offers. Will this be an additional paid service?

My personal opinion is somewhere between 5 - 8 years until the software is fully fleshed out to the point that we will no longer need ArcMap, etc. The customization/development environment has to provide a clean upgrade path for all my custom tools first (ArcObjects, .Net) before I even consider it as a serious replacement. Was hoping to at least do my editing in Pro and all else in ArcMap but this snapping problem threw me for a loop. Not sure when version 1.1 is scheduled to be out but as I said I downloaded the Beta and it's still broken. @Sean did say it will be included in the final release so the world will need to wait till then to create and edit features in Pro.

I would like to be able to replicate the symbology from a CAD layer in a FGDB Feature Class layer once the CAD data has been exported to a geodatabase. All the fields that appear in the source AutoCAD DXF or DWG are present in the geodatabase feature class but I am unable to import the symbology. I've been trying this since version 10 and it still does not work in version 10.3. Backround: When a DWG or DXF is added to ArcMap, it's layers (I am only concerned about the polyline layer), are symbolized very similarely to what they actually look like in AutoCAD. I would like to use the SAME symbology to symbolize the converted geodatabase feature class layer. The problem seems to be that CAD layers added to ArcMap have an EXTRA symbology category under Symbology Categories in the CAD Layer Properties called CAD unique entity values The CAD layer CAN be saved as a layer file For some reason it is NOT POSSIBLE to import this particual layer to a regular feature class layer. this is possibly because the "CAD unique entity values" is not a category in the regular feature class layer. Importing this type of layer doesn't raise any errors it just simply does not work. Is there a workaround? Is it possible to apply the symbology stored in "CAD unique entity values" category of a layer added from a DWG or DXF to the converted geodatabase equivalent?

Can you please elaborate and provide a description of exactly how this can be done with representations Personally, I've struggled to make representations useful especially when not reused down the road as they are they require considerable effort to setup correctly. Subsequently, after I've had all sort of issues when i did not want to use representations on a feature class that already had them setup. They also did not play well on machines that did not have at least a standard license (minimum standard is required for representations)

Masking works well but it is an entirely static, but also a non-destructive, solution: buffer the dashed line by a small offset to create a polygon mask. Add the mask polygon feature class to Map (Data Frame) -> Right Click on the Data Frame in the TOC and go to Advanced Drawing Options. In Advanced Drawing Options locate the mask polygon feature class (Masking Layer) and in the Masked Layers check whatever layer you want not to appear. Apply and OK to exit. Back in the TOC TURN OFF the mask polygon features class you created but DO NOT REMOVE it from the TOC. Whatever Masked Layers you have checked off on the Masked Layers column of the Advanced Drawing Options will be masked only in those areas where your mask overlaps. This technique is typically used masking contours behind contour elevation annotations without having to break the contour lines or alter the data spatially. This is purely a rendering feature. Performance is very good; i typically mask 1000s of lines and polygons on multiple layers without any issues.

Not really sure what else could be causing this. I can only suggest going back to the drawing board to test this in a new map this particular features a the only layer in there; Unchecked all strategies except for the abbreviations. Ensure you click Apply in the layer properties after you make any change in there - clicking OK does not commit any changes. I can confirm that the data dictionary works well in version 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 but i have not tested in 10.3

Change all from Keyword to Translation. Then in the Layer Properties -> Placement Properties -> Fitting Strategy Tab -> Check Abbreviate Label -> Choose Option -> Select your dictionary from the list. Once dictionary is selected; Again in Fitting Strategy Tab -> Strategy Order (button at the bottom) -> Move Abbreviate label strategy to the TOP OF THE LIST. Hope this helps

I would like to change the default TIN symbology to a combination from the existing default elevation ramp to faces with the same symbol on the bottom and Edge types on top. Can this be done and how.
