I know this is not exactly what you are asking but just in case you weren't aware of it, Esri has an offering called ArcGIS Maps for SharePoint: ArcGIS Maps for SharePoint | ArcGIS This allows you to connect to AGOL or Enterprise to display reference layers from them. This will be easier than developing your own solution, plus you get a whole bunch of other functionality. As far as licensing goes you just need at least one level 2 user in an organisational AGOL plan: Frequently asked questions—ArcGIS Maps for SharePoint | ArcGIS

Hi Denise, I would not install Portal inside the DMZ. Application tier servers should always be behind a firewall. The following link talks about unfederated ArcGIS Servers but it is still appropriate for Portal as well: Firewalls and ArcGIS Server—ArcGIS Server Administration (Windows) | Documentation for ArcGIS Enterprise Your original architecture was correct. If you are having trouble with using certain port numbers then you can change Web Adaptor to use a non default port: Use nondefault ports for the portal's ArcGIS Web Adaptor—Portal for ArcGIS (10.8) | Documentation for ArcGIS Enterpris… Mark

From my understanding, under the hood the Extract Data option of the Analysis widget uses the same Extract Data service that you are attempting to use in the GP widget. So are you planning to use the service endpoint on ArcGIS Online if you are not exposing your ArcGIS Enterprise endpoints? If so, be aware that the analysis service consumes credits. In any case, I'm not sure it is going to be a great user experience using the GP widget with the Extract Data endpoint. The tool's parameters are not very friendly to the end user. To get what you want, you may have to create your own widget as I couldn't find anything in the community widgets: Web AppBuilder Custom Widgets Mark

Hi Jim, Automatic tile layers are a great option for ArcGIS Online. They are fantastic at saving space and automatically updating tiles in the background. I would definitely go for this option in ArcGIS Online. However, I believe your question was about Portal (ArcGIS Enterprise). My understanding is that automatic tile layers do not exist in ArcGIS Enterprise for hosted feature layers: As per the link I provided before, it says: "Edits to spatial attributes made to the hosted feature layer are not automatically reflected in the hosted tile layer. You must republish the hosted tile layer from the updated hosted feature layer." It is possible to create a tiled map service that is not hosted, ie directly referencing a database or file based data source. Then you could use on demand caching but that also does not automatically update. You need to recreate tiles in the areas where feature updates have occurred: Map caching on demand—Documentation | Documentation for ArcGIS Enterprise Mark

Hello Mark, The current thinking is not to store imagery in the database but rather in a highly available file share. As you surmised, you can create a mosaic dataset, which can reside in your Enterprise Geodatabase and it will reference the images on the file share. As you also pointed out, this simplifies the storage of imagery, rather than having to import the large files into the database. Organisations are increasingly putting their imagery in the cloud in S3 buckets as this can be a cheap, scalable option. Note that mosaic datasets cannot reference web based URLs directly, only local ones (shared or local drives). To use mosaic datasets with imagery stored on S3 you would need to use Esri's Optimize Rasters tool. This tool creates raster proxies which can reference small local proxy files, which in turn redirect to the S3 hosted, web optimised files. GitHub - Esri/OptimizeRasters: OptimizeRasters is a set of tools for converting raster data to optimized Tiled TIF or MR… As an alternative, using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8, it is possible to use Image Layers. Image Layers can be created from registered Cloud Stores. The optimisation of the imagery for serving over the web is done automatically. Mark

Hi Jim, Tile layers do not automatically update when the underlying data changes. This is because tile layers are series of images that are created at the time of the tile cache creation. Those images are static and can only be updated by recreating the tile cache again. Did you create your hosted tile layer from a hosted feature layer? If so you will have to republish the tile service from the hosted feature service periodically to reflect any changes: Publish hosted tile layers—Portal for ArcGIS | Documentation for ArcGIS Enterprise Mark

Hi Denise, Portal and ArcGIS Server are happy with either deployment scenario: being on the same machine or on different machines. Order of deployment shouldn't be an issue. However, given that ArcGIS Server is the workhorse of Enterprise and is constrained to a 4 core license I would generally deploy it on a stand alone vm. This way you are ensure all the machine's resources are dedicated to just ArcGIS Server. If you want to reduce the number of VMs you have, you could put Portal and Data Store on the same machine as there are no license restrictions for either of them. I am not expecting the deployment pattern to fix the issues around using your alias however. I wonder if you need to get your IT network team involved to see if the alias is configured as expected. One important thing that needs to be noted is that if you are using a reverse proxy then it must ensure that the x-forward-host header is passed in the response. Mark
