There's a few things that would cause a problem in your upload. There's nearly 4000 polygons in this shapefile, substantially over the 1000 record limit for importing into a web map. It's not really advisable to have so many polygon features in a webmap anyway, as performance is not likely to be good (search for other threads in this forum and on the ArcGIS Online forum for more info on this issue). So consider what data you're trying to show, and if it's a lot of features, having a web service of the data would be a better way to go. There's also a few other things - the file should be a .zip file (as far as I know, .rar is not currently supported), and the shapefile should be in the root of the .zip file, not within a folder (there's a folder called 'untitled folder' within your .rar for example - this structure would not work). Your .prj file is not part of the shapefile - .prj files must have the same base file name as the rest of the files in the shapefile - in your case that would be Export_Output_2.prj. In addition, I'm not sure, but from trying to import this in ArcMap, your shapefile may not actually contain data in the coordinate system that you have in the Greek.prj file. You should ensure that the prj has the correct coordinate system for the data that the shapefile contains - when you import into Explorer Online, the service will then automatically reproject the data into the same coordinante system as the map you're importing in to. Hope this helps some,

Hi - yes, ArcGIS Server would be required to create a queryable layer. In this context, a query service would refer to a web service that provides map tiles or features as vectors, and when the service is published, the author can choose to allow the service to be queryable - clients can make requests based on specific criteria. This help topic, under 'Queryable layers' tells you how to check to see if an ArcGIS Server map or feature service is queryable: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/help/#/About_queries/01560000001z000000/

Well it's by design in as much as we know it's not working! As far as I know, there's a number of places throughout the application that would need changing to support multipoints correctly and fully, so it's not not just a simple fix. Because it's not currently down to be addressed in a specific release, I would say that working around it by producing point layers where possible is probably worthwhile.

I noticed that the specific sublayer of the map service you mentioned has Multipoint features, which I dont think is supported. The other layers which are Points added OK for me - e.g. I tried the bus stops layer.

I'm afraid Explorer Online only finds the first item at the location (all the points are actually there in the map still, but the action that shows the popup will find the first one only). This is a known issue, and I'm afraid I dont have a date for when this may be resolved.

Hi, There's a couple of things I'd check to start with - first, check that the case is right when you're searching for the username, because the search is case-sensitive. If the user has any publically shared items, you could also try searching for those items by using a search string like: owner:username That way you could be sure the username was correct. Second, I would go to the ArcGIS Online website, and check if you can invite the user that way, to rule out any problems with using ArcGIS Explorer Online. Hope this helps,

From ArcGIS Explorer Online, you can get the URL to a map by clicking Share. For more information, see the helpfile topic 'Link to a map' here: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/help/#/Link_to_a_map/01560000001q000000/

Yes, you can share a map with a group that you don't own but belong to. I'm afraid I dont know about the settings in organizations- maybe you can post a separate question in the beta forums for that.

The share link you posted shows that your map is part of an organization called 'mapport'. If you're signed in with an account that is part of that organization, the links you share will be to your organizations area of ArcGIS Online. However, I think that it's likely your organization does not have anonymous access enabled, so Explorer Online cannot access that URL which is part of the organization. Seeing as you shared the map with everyone on ArcGIS Online (publically) you can sign out, and then find the map and open the Share dialog that way - this time the link will have a URL to the map without going through the organization - for example http://www.arcgis.com/explorer/?open=3f129d8baff34157899f1683f7fea456 - anyone can now open the map from that URL without being signed in.

To the best of my knowledge, there will be no datum transformation used, the data just will be reprojected - I'll try and confirm that for use with colleagues though. I have updated information on this bit from a colleague - there is a default transformation picked for many common datum shifts. In your case given that you're moving from the Eurpoean 1950 GCS to the web mercator auxiliary sphere PCS used by the map, the ED_1950_To_WGS_1984_1 transformtion will be used, WKID 1133. This is a transformation with a best average for Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany (West), Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Portugal. Hope this info helps,

You can create a web map with a different coordinate system by using a service as a basemap that has the coordinate system that you want - perhaps this would be a better way to display your european data (note the limitations here though): http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/help/#/Create_a_new_map/01560000003t000000/ - see the section 'To create a new map based on a known URL of a map or image service'.

This is thekml code i am using to feed aircrafts' positions in Arcgis explorer online Unfortunately I'm still unable to get this working if I use this KML - I get a 400 error code back, indicating the wrong URL. Seems like sometimes the view refresh mode is working It is possible that the updates to your data you are currently seeing are being triggered after changes to the extent of your map - can you confirm if that's the case (confirm that you don't see the updates if you leave the map extent completely unchanged and just wait for the interval refresh)? We suspect there might be an issue with the interval refreshing if you leave the map extent completely unchanged, as the URL that's being requested would be exactly the same and could return cached data. If I can access your server then I can test a change to correct this issue.

Hi, Explorer Online does use the Silverlight 2.2 API yes - however, it's not using the Kml layer from there, so I dont think this matters for your issue. The ArcGIS Online map viewer and Explorer Online both use the same back end service to turn KML into features that can be displayed in a web map - this service supports a refreshMode of OnInterval, and also a ViewRefreshMode of OnStop (refresh when navigating stops). There is some information on display problems with KML in the Troubleshooting help topic here - http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/help/#/Troubleshooting/01560000004p000000/:
Why does my KML layer not display as expected? Explorer Online supports placemarks, ground overlays, time-enabled KML layers, network links, and refreshing by interval (using the RefreshMode value of OnInterval) and after navigation stops (using the ViewRefreshMode value of OnStop). If your KML file contains other types of content, Explorer Online may not display those elements as expected; for example, Explorer Online does not display screen overlays, and images included in pop-up windows must have Width and Height attributes defined in order o be displayed. You will see a spinner icon in the Layers and Layer Details panels when KML is being added to the map, and when network links are being downloaded.
Your issue that you originally reported on the ArcGIS API for Silverlight forum was forward to me by a colleague, but unfortunately the service you mentioned in that post is now not responding to test against. Is this your service, and if so can you check it's running? We'll test the refreshing of this data if we can access it. Thanks, Shelly

Hi - There's no way to do this from Explorer Online; however a colleague has just sent me some very useful info that will hopefully help - you should be able to achieve what you want in the upcoming versions of ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, and ArcGIS (10.1) for Desktop. In the next ArcGIS Explorer Desktop release you'll be able to make a layer package from your notes, which could then be loaded into ArcMap (from where it could be saved out as a shapefile). In the current ArcGIS Desktop, feature collections are ignored if you open a web map, but in the upcoming ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop release, when you open a web map the feature collection layers will be automatically converted to feature class layers, which can then be exported as shapefiles. Hopefully one of these solutions will help.
