Shaun, Currently, the Pro legend does not display groups in the legend item tree-view in the Contents page. I'm not aware of any plans to add this in the future. Tom

Hi Dake, We made a change to how you add a map frame to the layout page because we found that in most cases people resized and re-positioned the map frame after adding it. We felt that it would be less work to be able to draw the box on the page when you added the map frame. So, with 2.3 and newer versions, you need to click (single click or draw a box) in the layout view after choosing the map you want the map frame to reference from the gallery. Tom

Dake, Which version of Pro are you using? After selecting the map & extent from the gallery... .. are you single clicking in the page to add the map frame, or are you drawing a box? After you think you have added a map frame is one listed in the Contents pane? Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing? Thanks, Tom

Hi Shaun, The "New layer" option under Synchronize with map refers specifically to new layers added to a map. When you set a new source map fro a map frame you are not changing the layers of an existing map. You are pointing the map frame (and all the map surrounds referencing this map frame) t a new map. Therefore the legend will be repopulated with the layers of the new map just as if you added a new legend to the page. The only difference is the existing legend should keep any legend formatting you have made. Currently, there is no way to create an "empty" legend where you add the layers you want. Instead, the model we chose is one of subtraction. Turn off or remove legend items you don't want. I'm assuming that the items (layers) you see in the legend all belong to the map that is now referenced by the map frame. If this is not the case, then there is likely a bug. If so, this is by design. Hope this helps, Tom

Vitaly, Unfortunately, the workaround you propose is most likely your solution at this point. I'll see what I can do to promote this issue and see if we can address it in the next release. Tom

Shaun, You should get similar functionality in ArcGIS Pro by saving the text symbol to a style. See Save symbols and style items in styles—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop. In particular, look for the section titles "Save a text symbol to a style". Here's another help topic that might be useful as well - Manage styles—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop. Hope this helps, Tom

The decimal issue looks like it occurs in the Contents pane as well as the legend. The legend pulls the label text from Contents. This is something that the Map Authoring team should evaluate. Tom

Hi Vitaly &Thomas, This is a known bug. We have an internal issue for this, though if this is something you would like to track we can contact technical support and enter a bug number. Tom

Hi Michelle, I'm not getting a clear idea of what your workflow is. Are you zooming to features within your map (geographic space), or are you zooming into a section of the map frame (page space). You can set a map frame constraint to manage the extent of the map - see Map frame constraints—Layouts | ArcGIS Desktop . You can also lock elements so that you don't accidentally move them when selecting other elements on the layout page. From the help topic Layouts in ArcGIS Pro—Layouts | ArcGIS Desktop: "Once added to a layout, elements can be selected, moved, and resized on the layout to achieve the desired look and feel. This behavior can be turned off by locking an element, preventing selection, moving, or resizing interactively on the layout. Switch between locked and unlocked views by clicking the Lock button next to the element in the Contents pane." Even though you lock an element and cannot interactively select the element, you can still select the element from the Contents pane if you want to open the properties of that element. Hope this helps, Tom

Hi Bryson, Working with a copied layout as you describe should work. I'm unaware of any outstanding issues that would prevent this workflow from working. I suspect that there may be something particular with your steps or with your project/data. More information is needed to properly diagnose. Can you contact Esri Support? They are better equipped to handle troubleshooting steps and gather bug data. They can be contacted at https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support . One possible workaround is to create a pagx file - Save a layout file—ArcGIS Pro | ArcGIS Desktop - and import this file back into the project. Create the pagx file: Import the file you created: Hope this helps. Tom

Tom, I cannot reproduce the issue above - the Contents pane (map view) & Legend are not registering a change to a layer's label. There could be something I'm missing. Could you pass this along to technical support? Thanks, Tom

Tom Colson - thanks for the video and especially for the text commentary. There are a number of things going on here. I'll use the timestamp to organize the issues below. @ 1:30 – “Why are there no legend items when I inserted the legend?” This is expected behavior. Though we may need to review for a better user experience. When you changed the basemap the new basemap gets selected. The layout read this as the selected layer. When layers are selected (in an Active Layout) and you insert a legend only the selected layers are included in the new legend. In this case a basemap layer is selected which does not have any valid legend so the legend is blank. If you had added a feature layer (ex: state boundary) to the map and then added a legend the legend would only show the state boundary – i.e. the selected layer map layer in the Contents pane (Layout view active). We do this to support the use case where you only want to create a legend for specific layers in your map. You do this by selecting layers (in the Active layout view Content pane). Unfortunately, a side effect of this is that when you add a new layer it is the selected layer. Pro Tip: Before adding a legend select the Map Frame it belongs to in the Contents pane, then insert the legend. This should avoid having any layers selected. As the video shows @ 3:05 by switching the source map frame back and forth you can "refresh" the legend. @ 3:19 - Legend goes blank after toggling layer visibility Not able to reproduce. May be related to Bug #1 So far, I have not been able to reproduce this, but I suspect that there is a refresh issue due to the legend getting out of sync with the map. I believe this happens once the order in the Contents pane for legend and map frames change. See Bug #1. @ 5:13 - Move legend after adding a new map frame (different map) and then changing the source map a number of times results in invalid legend items. I CAN reproduce this. BUG #1. This may be related to another BUG where the legend items or the map frame/map items disappear after reordering the Legend or Map Frame in the Contents Pane. We are currently looking into this. @ 6:50 “Turn off one legend item, note how all are removed?” Not able to reproduce. It think that this is likely another manifestation of the previous “reorder” bug above. The element is “out-of sync” with the map. @8:11“Change maps in the map frame, now my extent is gone?” I CAN reproduce this. BUG #2. A re-sourced map frame should zoom to the full custom extent of the new source map. The zoom is not occurring. We will look into this. @10:54 “remove 2 nd frame, turn legend off, then on….legend gone!” I CAN reproduce this. Most likely due to BUG #1. Looks like the legend is getting out of sync when the source map of the additional map frame is being switched back and forth (and at one point includes the map that the legend points to). I believe this issue is another symptom of the core issue that is causing the other legend bugs. A lot going on here. I did not go through every item in this thread. I would encourage anyone reading this that feel they have an issue that is different than the one's Tom has shown in his video and that I have addressed above to take this this issue to technical support. They are better equipped to handle troubleshooting steps and gather bug data. They can be contacted at https://support.esri.com/en/contact-tech-support. Thanks, Tom

Hi Mattias, ORDER BY is not supported by Dynamic Table Attributes. I'm curious on why you are not using Table Frames - Add and modify table frames—Layouts | ArcGIS Desktop - to display a sorted list of street names. Thanks, Tom
