Hi Wendy, ESRI Support has replicated the boundary labeling issue with both the detailed states and detailed counties layer included with ESRI Data and Maps. They are logging a bug report on the behavior. The suggested workaround is to use the non-detailed data for boundary labeling. Thank you for your help!

Hi Matt, I tried cased roads in Pro and had the same results as on your screenshot--the features did not join as they could be set to in ArcMap. Were you able to join your cased roads so they appeared as one continuous road, not just cased segments? Thanks!

Hi Craig, So far the symbology and labeling panes have been a much faster way to style map layers than the nested dialog boxes within ArcMap. That being said, the Pro product should probably place some "breadcrumbs" for users that are well entrenched in the ways of ArcMap to ease the transitioning process, especially for frequently used items. Maybe there is an in-between: a way to open and go to the symbology and labeling panels from the layer properties dialog, giving those used to this workflow a path to the right place.

Hi David, I have tried doing this also, similar to how it would be done in ArcMap. The result was that each road segment was cased, and you could see that each segment was symbolized separately. In ArcMap there was an option to join the road features, which I don't see in ArcGIS Pro. I ended up abandoning cased roads for now, hoping that the feature would show up on future releases. I haven't added cased roads to the ArcGIS Ideas board, but if you add it post the link and we can vote up the idea. The scaled labels idea is on there already, so if you'd like to see this you can vote on it here: https://community.esri.com/ideas/12259

Hi Matthew, I am attempting to move most of my production to ArcGIS Pro--the major sacrifice being a modest learning curve and some bugs / instability that I'm seeing as the maps get more complex. I'm still fine tuning our base map, but our initial test projects have had promising results--with some roadblocks and detours along the way of course. You can save both the label symbol and (separately) the label position to a style that can be implemented on other classes. The option is on the Label Class pane in the top right menu. Label expressions and SQL statements need to be created from scratch, though. A copy as new label class option would be great. I've resorted to duplicating a few layers simply to avoid re-creating all those label classes for various scales. I'll have to look into those alternate symbols in the 1.3 release since I haven't come across those yet.

Pressing and holding the "C" key during other tasks activates the Navigate tool temporarily. This is almost better than going back and forth between tools. They should add the shortcuts to the popover menu for quick reference though.

Thanks to the ArcGIS Pro development team for improving vector transparency capabilities well beyond what was possible in ArcMap! I did have trouble when symbolizing using a gradient fill layer, however. Even with no transparency, my layer (a set of buffers created in Pro) rasterized on export when I added a gradient fill to it. It would be great to see support for vector gradient fills with and without transparency upon export. Thanks again!

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Pro handled the transparency better than ArcMap did. PDF's generated from Adobe products definitely support vector gradients with transparency as we regularly use InDesign to export to PDF. I am not so sure when it comes to other PDF generators. Our state polygon layer sits beneath the solid semi-transparent layer, and does not appear to be rasterized either. Even when using the gradient fill, the only layer subject to rasterization is the gradient layer itself. Layers above and beneath remain vector. At least some progress from ArcMap...I'll put the idea on GeoNet. Thanks!

Thank you for your response. I experimented both with and without layer transparency to see if that was the issue. Interestingly, if the fill is solid, ArcGIS Pro 1.3 keeps it as vector even if there is layer transparency on the appearance tab. With a gradient fill, it seems to rasterize regardless of transparency. Have a nice day!

Good Morning, I have created a polygon layer by creating a buffer around a set of points. If I set the symbology as a solid fill, the layer exports to PDF with perfect vector clarity, even zoomed in. A gradient fill does not have the same result. The same shape exports with a jagged periphery. I initially tried doing a two color gradient, where one of the swatches was the "no fill" swatch. This looked great in ArcGIS Pro, but not on export. I then tried switching the "no fill" swatch to a color thinking it was somehow a transparency issue, but I had the same result. Is anybody else experiencing issues with gradient fills? Thank you for your time!

If you know you created vector shapes (and didn't paste artwork from another source) then checking the paths panel shouldn't be necessary--that was more for if it was Photoshop. I tried the files in your zip and they certainly didn't work in Pro. For the heck of it, I opened one in Illustrator and re-exported to EMF and it works! I attached a set of re-exported files for you. It might be worth the time to check if re-exporting helps on your original files as well once you are back at the computer with Illustrator.

Hi Richard, I'm thinking this may come down to raster vs vector. Do the Photoshop files contain actual shape paths, or is it all raster? ArcMap pulls in EMF files as a picture marker (which accepts raster AND vector formats). ArcGIS Pro does not allow EMF as a file type for picture markers, and you need to use the shape marker, as you mention. If Photoshop is not generating vector data (as you would by default in, say Illustrator), Pro may not be able to "see" your shape in the shape marker symbol. I am not sure why the apply button would not activate though, since one would think Pro would have acknowledged your EMF file, even if it couldn't display the shape. I am currently using the same EMF files that we used in ArcMap in Pro without a problem and they were generated in Illustrator. Maybe it's worth checking those Photoshop files to see if there are actual paths that show up on the Paths panel? Also, did your previous files from ArcMap convert those symbols to a picture or shape symbol on import into Pro?
