We, like a lot of other agencies, maintain a "Street Index" map of the city (some county area is included). This is a typical wall sized map with the street listing to one side. A rectangular grid/fishnet covers the city/county area and of course includes the typical numbered columns and rows (i.e. A1, A2, A3...). I would like to have a tool that could update the street index list automatically as streets are added to or removed from the SDE street centerline feature class. A great tool, StreetIndex.tbx, (sorry I can't find who wrote it and credit them for it) can be used to create the list from scratch, but an automated method to keep it updated would help tremendously.

Why does this need to be so difficult? Can't Esri give us a straightforward answer, step by step, on how to achieve this? Esri, please post instructions here and in the Flexviewer Help files on how to successfully accomplish this task of hyperlinking images. Thank you!

No offense, but I propose VBS to be the primary scripting for all of ArcGIS. Much easier to use and write code in half the time of Py-thon which is not user friendly at all.

AutoCAD 2013 (Map, Civil3D,etc.) also use this approach to UI's with many visible tools scattered around the window frame. Would much like to see the MS Office toolbar/AutoCAD toolbar palettes used or made as an optional UI along w/ multi-layouts. 10.x/11.x really needs more innovative ideas implemented soon!

DDP Mapbook should list all available pages in its dropdown list; and/or show an index overview map to select pages needed for printing or exporting. A better approach would be to include a dockable (non-modal) window listing available pages, with thumbnails (optional), scale and rotation info, etc., for selecting multiple pages to print or export. For a bonus, allow for viewing muliple pages at a time!!!!

The Symbol Selector Search box was a huge help. But, why have another dialog box, Style References..., to toggle on/off symbol categories. Make the Symbol Selector contain all Styles/categories and have them expandable and collapsable. Retain the consistency with the (+ and - ) next to each category like other windows tree listings. Example: + Business (expanded) + Civic + Esri + Survey This way allows one to quickly scan through visually w/out so much scrolling and eliminates the useless Style References dialog.

Surprised this one hasn't had more hits than this by now...I fully support the Layer Properties concept introduced here (Autodesk currently uses this technique and has for quite some time and much more user-friendly)... Maybe this needs to be reposted!

Great idea...I would like to see this functionality added to the MXD as well as feature classes. I want to save links to Word docs, pdfs, Excel sheets, Autocad dwg's, images/photos etc. but dont see a way to do it now. Please add this to the MXD too! Or am I missing something???

We used to be able to do a "spatial join without creating a new feature class" in AV 3.x. This would be a most useful tool for everyday use it seems without creating useless feature classes that you have to go back and delete. Esri, can't you bring this tool back from the archives for ArcGIS 10.1.x??? I would really like to see it added to the Toolbox!

I agree with your suggestions! Too much functionality was left out of DDP that was used in DS MapBook. In general, it's always disappointing to see tools used in previously releases keep getting dropped to "future" releases!

Often times I need to dimension a line, parcel boundary or whatever needs to show a distance. Could a "new text dimension" tool be added to the draw toolbar for quick dimensioning? This would save having to go through the painstaking task of creating a new dimension feature class! Simple parameters for extension lines, dim lines, arrowheads and text is all that would be needed for control. Then font, size, bold, italics, color, etc could be set using typical tools from the Drawing Toolbar.

Is there some code to grab "Bookmarks" to use as dynamic text? I have several bookmarks and would like to have the text change for each bookmark I choose to provide the title for the map. Thanks, Jake

I had the same concerns. I discussed this with them end of last year and it is supposed to be fixed soon, hopfully by 10.1, at least. Support assured me it was not "by design".
