@Ted. Thank you for the code, but I got away from Access long ago. So many people I work with in the office and outside the office, either hate Access or so used to the ease of data entry in Excel (probably as bad as I hate "Pro"(longed) -verb meaning: extend the duration of.". I'll just post it on the "ideas" page and see where it goes from there.

Dan, tried your suggestion again just to verify. Setting column widths in Excel has no effect on output width; remains at 255 after setting several to 50 or less. Also, if I convert to .csv 1st, then use Table To Table the text field width increases to 8000. Any other suggestions or comments are appreciated.

I get Excel from many different sources and clean up as much as possible before import. I usually set numeric fields to Number and leave the others alone. I have not found a way to set text field widths in Excel.

I import many tables from Excel to a geodatabase regularly. Most have numerous columns (20 or more) that are Text type fields. The default text width value when setting Output Field Properties is 255, much larger than needed. Seems ridiculous users can't change the default to something like 30 or 50, something other than 255 as a width for all text fields being imported. Like many other things in Esri software modifications have to be done individually. Am I just missing something or is there a setting somewhere in the software when running the gp tool Table to Table, where the default width for text fields (under Field Map) can be changed?

Great to see this finally "Under Consideration" (6 years & 5 months later) ! However, the way I hear it, we'll never see it in the ArcDesktop/Map era. I think those days are almost gone (~2020 maybe?)!! Then "Pro", will be the new meanest dog on the block and hopefully in that time will be able to match up with today's ArcDesktop. But, to address the models and scripts, these are good, but sometimes it just makes it really easy to view the data that's at or near that particular feature(s); not always to calculate values to another field. Thank you all for posting and votin' up!

We get parcels from an outside source. 2 of the fields "Grantor" and "file_as_name" contain an &. In maptips the & converts to an underscore. How do I keep the & an & and prevent it from looking like an underscore?

Can a Service Pack tab/link be added to myEsri > Downloads > ArcMap/Pro version (ex. 10.6) as a selection in the left pane or somewhere on the Downloads site? So if your version is Arcmap 10.6, under View Downloads, Service Pack is one of the options.

Saw a presentation where my co-worker used google earth and was able to make some of the labels/text subdued with some transparency along with the points of interest on a street/sidewalk project and make other labels with no transparency. Worked really well while creating several scenarios for the presentation. Would this be possible to add this same ability to Argis desktop and Pro where labels and graphics could be made transparent same as layers?

Esri, please respond to Thomas Colson (been over 3 months since his post). Why the functionality is lacking and why we have to "submit an 'idea'..." every time we want to get a function added back?

Robert, Please just add the tool back in! Why should we have to vote on it to see if we need it or not? Thank you for your concern.

Kory, I’ll definitely give it shot, but fyi, what I did was create a modelbuilder tool like that posted to iterate through the selected points and copy the attribute from the parcels to the point. But, this may be better. Thank you Jake

Resurrecting the dead, again! Thank you Jon Greene for posting your work-around over 3 years ago (If you can post your toolbox with that tool would be a big help). I'm now lobbying again to resurrect this ever so "COOL" feature back into ArcGIS. (originally available at Arcview 3.x). Please vote up to get it implemented back into the next release. For those who never got to see/use this tool, having the ability to join two feature classes based on their shape fields w/out creating new feature classes makes it ever so easy to update values in a table from features in proximity of the target features. I would like to see Esri chime in here to get their input, why it was removed from Desktop in the 1st place and why it can't simply be added back? It seems we continue to lose functionality at each new re-write of ArcGIS. Why is that? Two more that needs mentioning and brought back: 1. Find & Replace removed from Pro, go here to vote up, please; work-around is write some py code in the Calculate Field tool. 2. Select Path: from the coverage era (arc/node topology feature) - you could select 2 line segments and it would find and select all line segments in between. Thank you and vote, Jake

@@esri My 2 red cents worth: So is this the new norm for re-writing the core software? We, as user, have to tell you every little feature we're missing in Pro that is in Arcmap now and we use daily, just so we can get it added back? What a way to do business. Why don't you make it work like the current version we're used to using then build on that? And you wonder why we get so frustrated at change. Way to go esri... Not happy with this way of thinking at all. This was also the case where we lost "Spatial Join" functionality being changed from Arcview 3.x, where a spatial join could be placed using the "shape" fields of 2 feature classes without creating new output, we can no longer do! Another, is the "Select Path" in the coverage days where you could select 2 line segments and it would find the shortest path between them, where did that go? So, why do we keep losing legacy good useful tools in each new release? Please explain... Or just add 'em back. Thank you very much!

The Transfer Attributes geoprocessing tool only accepts line feature classes as input for Source and Target. I frequently have the need to transfer polygon attributes to address point features in batches on selected sets of points. Currently, the only way to do this is to use the Spatial Adjustment > Attribute Transfer tool. Which means 2 mouse clicks for each address point. So my question, why does the tool only support line feature classes? Can this tool be expanded to accept all feature classes as input? Is there an alternative apart from the spatial adjustment attribute transfer tool I'm missing? Esri please expand this tool to accept all feature classes in the next new release.

Needed for a long time is random symbology themes to be applied to features like random color schemes are used now. Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas? Modelbuilder doesn't seem to have anything, but I thought the dreaded python route might??? If it matters, it's for ArcMap 10.5. I'm NOT an Arcgis pro fan, so please no suggestions for it!
