We were able to figure out a scenario to reproduce the described behavior, so we're re-opening this for now.

@Will I can't answer that authoritatively, but it does appear that the recent updates (from ~October 11th) that have to do with .NET 4.8.x result in this issue. It can be confusing given how Microsoft numbers updates - the KB# you see on their download site may be an umbrella KB and when you actually install the update, it will show a different KB#. What we have listed in this article are the known installed KBs that result in the crash. Also note that we just updated the article to reflect that ArcGIS Pro 2.9.5 was released today and is available for download from My Esri. 2.8.8 is currently scheduled to be available November 7th, and we will continue to update this article as we have better information. I hope that this helps.

@StephenLead we were looking at this one recently and if I understand the original request, it seems like the behavior in the current software is what you were asking for. Can you take a look at https://www.screencast.com/t/I5ll6rCf and test in ArcGIS Pro 3.0 and let me know if this is now resolved? Thank you!

Thank you, Ryan. We added that to the list of updates that causes this crash. The plan is for 2.9.5 to be available tomorrow - that will fix the crash without having to rollback the update. We are also planning 2.8 Patch 8 (2.8.8) to be available the first week of November containing a fix for this. Thanks again for posting that specific KB.

We do not have an estimate for a 2.8 patch at this time, but will update this thread once we have more information. We are still looking at tomorrow for the release of 2.9.5. If at all possible, upgrading to 2.9 and then applying patch 5 will have a fix from our side for this.

@GarretDuffy sorry to hear you're running into a crash. I tried the steps you provided on 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 and do not get a crash. Did you submit the error report along with your email address? We could at least look at the dump file generated by the crash if you give me your email so I can look it up. I looked in our support system and it appears that you should be able to open a case with Esri Canada Technical Support. Have you tried calling? KoryKramer_0-1665759379988.png

Thanks @Willen We'll look into this request - the information you've provided is helpful. Just to be clear, ArcGIS Pro 2.4 is retired (see the product life cycle). Even if we end up making more than one previous version available, we would not make retired versions available for download.

Thanks @AmyWork3 and @PatIampietro 1. Is ArcGIS Pro installed on both lab machines as well as on students' personal machines? i.e. as part of your administration do you block update notifications to students? https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/get-started/update-arcgis-pro.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_5C85E938538843F7A0BDAA4B3FA929BE 2. It sounds like the requirement is to offer the latest version and one version back. So at this time, you would want to see ArcGIS Pro 3.0 and ArcGIS Pro 2.9 available for download from ArcGIS Online, correct? If students are instructed to download and install 2.9 from ArcGIS Online, and "Check for updates on startup" has not been disabled, they will still be able to update to 3.0.x through the updater. This is related to question 1. I'm just curious to hear your thoughts around this. I suppose as long as it is clear to students that the course materials are designed for 2.9 and they should not update, maybe that is enough to keep them from going to 3.0. 3. Are there multiple courses that all access the same ArcGIS Online organization where there is the possibility that course 1 wants access to Pro 3.0 but course 2 only wants students to use 2.9? What I'm trying to understand here is whether there are scenarios where an ArcGIS Online admin might want to "cap" the max version for all students. This idea seems to be about making at least one previous Pro version available in addition to the current release. I'm wondering if there are scenarios where an admin wants to make only ArcGIS Pro 2.9 available to students as a download. That way, you could leave on the auto-updater in Pro which would notify students when 2.9 patches are available and they should in fact be encouraged to update to 2.9.1, 2.9.2, and so on as those patches contain quality fixes without adding new functionality or altering the UI in any way that would affect lessons. I'm very interested in learning more about your expectations here. Thank you!

Hi Richard, I don't work with CAD data, but looked in our Support database and didn't find a bug describing this behavior. It may be and it hasn't been logged yet... I did read through some cases and technical articles that talk about the Entity field being defined as circle. For you and others on this thread, did the points you're working with in Pro originate from CAD; i.e. imported into Pro from dwg or another CAD format and you're now exporting again? Check that Entity field if present. I can ping somebody on our CAD team, but we may need additional details to troubleshoot. If you feel this is a bug, the best thing to do is to contact Technical Support. I'll let you know if I hear back from our dev team on this.
