Jakob Larson You mention that your map is in NAD 1983 CA State Plane (zone ?) When you check the data that is being added to the map, what is it's coordinate system (before you used Define Projection)? At first glance, this does look like a datum shift, though its interesting that there are three shifts, and I'm not sure if that could be because you used Define Projection before the screenshot? Anyway, if the data had a coordinate system from a different datum than the map (say NAD 1927), and you don't apply a transformation, you'll see this shift. You'll probably want to go into your project Options > Map and Scene and enable the 'Warn if transformation between geographic coordinate system is required to align data sources correctly' option. If the data that you're receiving has a coordinate system defined, we should assume it is correct until proven otherwise. That means that you should not use Define Projection—Data Management toolbox | ArcGIS Desktop "The only use for this tool is for datsets that have an unknown or incorrect coordinate system defined." It is good practice to project all data into the same coordinate system so that you aren't projecting on the fly especially when editing or doing analysis. So using the Project—Data Management toolbox | ArcGIS Desktop tool is good. From first glance here, it looks like you'll need to apply a transformation in the tool. Did you do that? If all data is projected into NAD 1983 California State Plane (same zone), and that is what the map is in, there will no longer be a need to apply a transformation to the map, and even if you have that option enabled, you shouldn't get any warning. I hope this info is helpful. If you're still seeing issue lining up the data, send some more info about what the original coordinate systems are (again, before you've used Define Projection on them).

OK, thanks. We're going to review the event viewer log that Jay posted, and we'll need to test on a Windows 7 machine, but so far as stated above, we tested Pro 1.4.1 on a Windows 10 Creators edition .NET 4.7 machine - no crash. Pro 2.0 on a Windows 8.1 with .NET 4.7 - no crash. Pro 1.4 and 1.4.1 on same Windows 8.1 .NET 4.7 machine - no crashes.

Jay Gregory We tested Pro 1.4.1 on a Windows 10 Creators edition .NET 4.7 machine - no crash. Pro 2.0 on a Windows 8.1 with .NET 4.7 - no crash. Pro 1.4 and 1.4.1 on same Windows 8.1 .NET 4.7 machine - no crashes. Can you share what operating system you're on? You said you're using Pro 1.4. Is there a reason you haven't upgraded to 1.4.1? You write that Pro won't open. So just to double-check, you're not actually doing anything at all in Pro. You try to open the application and you get the serious application error, correct? c_sharp_dotnet You "Liked" this post. Are you experiencing Pro crashes with .NET 4.7? If so, can you provide answers to the above questions as well. At this point, we've tested and have not found any conflict. This may be something that is environment/network-specific, but with more details as requested above, we can try to reproduce again. Thank you!

Jason, I just checked with the editing team and they are aware of a performance issue with the clip editing tool in Pro. They're working on it. Thank you for bringing it up. I don't know if it will be fixed in 2.0 but update to that later this month to see if clip editing performance has improved. Thank you!

Are you asking specifically about sharing as a tile service? The Create Map Tile Package tool could be used and it allows you to set an extent based on another layer, union of inputs, map extent, etc. Create Map Tile Package—Data Management toolbox | ArcGIS Desktop The tpk can be uploaded to online and published as a service. Does that help?

Robert Kossick Connor Houston is correct. Maps in ArcGIS Pro layouts work just like Data Frames work in an ArcMap layout. That is, the Map used in the Layout is a container that points to the map. Any changes made in the Map such as layer visibility, symbology, projection, etc. will be reflected in the Layout. Once you have your first map set up, from the Project pane expand Maps: Right-click on your first Map > Copy. Right-click on the Maps folder in the Project pane > Paste. Do this as many times as you need. In your Layout, you can now add each of the Maps. Another way of getting to the same place is to just add Map 1 to the layout. Copy the element and paste the copy onto the layout. Use the Format Map Frame pane to quickly change the Map frame: Symbolize your layers as needed in your maps. Here is my beautiful final layout!

Hi Matt Wilkie. As you mentioned, today there are more than 12,000 ideas on the site - which is GREAT that there are so many thoughts from the user community about things that could improve the software for your work. That said, as I'm sure you'll understand, it is not possible, nor desirable to implement all ideas that are submitted on the site. I provided background into the process in https://community.esri.com/community/gis/applications/arcgis-pro/blog/2017/05/01/arcgis-desktop-ideas-on-the-move-april-2017?sr=search&searchId=b7824fd5-9e31-45eb-a35e-11349debcc7a&searchIndex=0 "As time goes by, ideas get up votes, down votes and comments from the user community. Advocacy Leads frequently monitor the site, and usually on a monthly basis report on trends to our respective Product teams. Ideas may be discussed because they have a high overall score. But if that were the only criteria, as it takes time to accumulate a high score, relatively new ideas wouldn’t make it into the discussion. So we also look at things like how fast an idea’s score is growing – how many up votes this month? – how many up votes this year? Sometimes we also see an idea collect a wide variety of user stories. It may not have an incredibly high score, or even be growing as fast as other ideas. But what if, out of 15 up votes, the community has provided 15 unique and compelling user stories in the comments? Those user stories may reveal that the functionality could be used across a number of different industries, meaning that implementing the idea would have a greater impact than something that is a niche use. This is a really good reason to not only vote for ideas that you’d like to see, but also provide your user story in the comments!" While specific ideas that you've voted for may not have changed status or been implemented yet, as you can see from that blog, there definitely is a lot of movement of ideas. I can say that the teams do try to be deliberate when moving an idea to Under Consideration - there may be application design considerations that would need to be figured out before the idea could be seriously considered, and sometimes there are dependencies on some other functionality having to be implemented first, before an idea would be possible to implement. At other times, there might be framework issues that don't allow for the consideration of an idea. I don't mean to present this here as an excuse for why ideas aren't moved into the product plan and implemented, rather as an extension of the explanation of the process provided in the quote above. I can assure you that https://community.esri.com/ideas/12671 is high on the list of things the Pro team is looking at as it is a fast-growing idea. If you have a few minutes, it is always helpful to provide some specifics in the Comments section as others have been doing on that idea. And since we have this communication channel open, is the "stand alone" part of that idea an integral piece in your mind? What if Pro did everything that you needed in terms of data management, but it did it within the single application rather than through a separate, stand-alone app? Would that meet your needs? From other comments on that thread, it sounds like maybe so, as long as a separate project doesn't have to be created to work with data management: https://community.esri.com/ideas/9992 Again, a design consideration...

kmsagis Have you started working in ArcGIS Pro yet? There are some differences in folder connection behavior, notably that Computer, Desktop, Documents, and any root folders are automatically connected to from the Add Folder Connections dialog and the Add Data dialog boxes. In the screenshots below, I haven't had to make connections, they're just there. I think that this, combined with the use of Favorites that are coming out in Pro 2.0, will provide the experience you're looking for. Make sure to look into Favorites once Pro 2.0 is out later this month.

It looks like that specific warning is missing from the 10.5 help. I've shared this information with the documentation team so that it can be addressed. Thanks for pointing it out.
