Hi Mike, The ArcPad Picture Page is one of the Pre-configured Pages in the Edit Form, along with your Attributes, Symbology and Geography Pages. These pages cannot be edited but they can be toggled on and off, either by setting the 'picturepagevisible' to true or false in the Tree View of your Edit Form or by checking the boxes on the Form Properties dialog when using the Forms Editor in ArcPad Studio. The Picture Page is pre-configured to provide users with a picture preview, a drop-down box to select the photo field in your data, the ability to rotate pictures 90 degrees to the left or right, a button to launch the camera and a button to browse and select an existing photo. It can be used to capture new photos or view existing photos that are associated with your data. The design of this page aims to make it easier for you to incorporate photos into your project by simply turning the page off and on. If you want to build your own version of the Picture Page, you can add a page to your form and customise it to capture photos using the 'imagebox' control, but the out-of-the-box solution is pretty awesome in my opinion!! For what it is worth - You should be able to leverage the features of the ArcGIS Geodatabase to make life a little easier... Using a Replica Geodatabase allows for multiuser editing and provides a mechanism to synchronise edits. I do not recommend that anybody should be using the ArcPad Data Manager to Check-In any edits directly to their Production Geodatabase. Use Versioning and Replica Geodatabases to check-out and check-in your data, then synchronise the replicas back into your production geodatabase to review any edits before committing changes. Hannah

Improving start times for the ArcPad Camera is an issue that has been resolved in ArcPad 10.0.1 (see the latest ArcPad Readme for more information) Please update your version of ArcPad or try setting the screen to landscape (left-handed) as a temporary workaround. Hannah

Hi Zahid, I'm not sure if this will help you or not - but if your workflow involves choosing a value from a list (A), then having a subset of values available for list (B) then you may want to look at using SUBTYPES in your geodatabase. Subtypes allow you to set default values, coded or range value domains and connectivity rules in your data. These geodatabase features will also apply to your ArcPad AXF when you check out data for editing using the ArcPad Data Manager Toolbar in ArcMap. I would suggest looking up Subtypes in the ArcMap Help for further guidance on how to set up your geodatabase. Hannah

Hi Zahid, Have you though about using the ArcPad Picture Page? It has the ability to choose a photo and display it in the image box (as long as your specified photo field has enough characters to fit the file name of the photo!) Otherwise, have you looked at the specifications for both the 'On Click' and the 'ClickAction' attributes for your Image Box? If you have already customized the 'On Click' event - have you looked at the settings for the 'ClickAction' attribute? The ClickAction for Image Boxes is set to 'auto' by default, which will launch the ArcPad Camera. Open your Edit Form in ArcPad Studio and open the properties for your Image Box Control. In the bottom left hand corner, you will see a drop-down for the ClickAction options. If you change this from 'auto' to 'file', you can achieve the same result - ArcPad will let you browse for a file and display it in the Image Box. HTH Hannah

Hi John, To answer your question, no - there is no fix needed for ArcPad regarding map display. If you are noticing a difference in display quality between your desktop and mobile device - please be aware of the hardware specifications of each platform. It may be that the screen on your mobile device is not able to perform as well as your PC monitor. If you are talking about running ArcPad and ArcMap side-by-side on your desktop PC - could you please provide screenshots? Hannah Ferrier

The ArcPad Map Document (.apm) only contains references to your datasets (just like ArcMap). To view your data through the map document - you must have the correct references to your datasets. If you open your .apm file in Notepad, you will see that the layers are referencing a file path that begins with 'SD Card'. If you are now running this project on a laptop - this may not be where your datasets reside on that machine (hence the empty map). You can always begin with a new map and add the shapefile layers one by one to ensure correct reference paths. Also - there was no ArcPad version 9 - it jumped from 8 to 10 (I like to think that this is because ArcPad seven ate (eight) nine!!)

The circle is the 'wait cursor' that lets you know that ArcPad is busy. If you 'fixed' your problem by turning off the GPS Tracklog - then I would suggest that your Tracklog was quite large and was taking a long time to draw (making ArcPad busy). If you wish to archive your tracklog to improve performance - see this script on the Code Gallery: How to archive GPS Tracklog

Hi Sherry, ArcPad will not read the Compact Cache Format - but there are a few ways to cache your background data to take out into the field using ArcPad: Use StreetMap Data: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcpad/10.0/help/index.html#/ArcPad_StreetMap_basics/00s100000120000000/ Cache ArcGIS Online: http://arcpadteam.blogspot.com.au/2010/12/how-to-download-arcgis-online-cached.html Create Local Map Tiles: http://arcpadteam.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/update-to-creating-local-map-tiles.html HTH, Hannah Ferrier

Hi Suzanne, You don't need ArcCatalog to copy files to ArcPad - simply copy the entire folder you created during the check-out process onto your field device. This can be done using ActiveSync for Windows Mobile Devices or by copying the folder between machines using an SD Card or USB Drive. Once you have copied the folder (called DataForArcPad1 by default) onto your field device, open ArcPad and then use Open Map to browse to the map (.apm) that you created during check-out. It should be that easy!! If you have any more problems, please let me know!! Hannah Ferrier

Have you enabled the correct Rangefinder Extension in ArcPad? This will populate the 'PROTOCOL' section of the Rangefinder Preferences. The LaserAce Rangefinder requires the MDL/TNL LaserAce Extension to be enabled. Go to Advanced Settings and enable the MDL/TNL Extension on the Extensions Tab. Then, when you set up your Rangefinder Preferences, the MDL/TNL LaserAce Protocol should be selected in the 'PROTOCOL' section. I would absolutely use ArcPad 10.0.2 to get the latest MDL/TNL Extension 🙂 I hope this helps, Hannah Ferrier

Hi Josh, You should have a copy of ArcPad Studio installed along with your copy of ArcPad 10. If you open ArcPad Studio and open the .axf file that you have created during checkout, you will be able to edit the forms by expanding the 'Feature Layers' branch in the .axf and double clicking the selected feature layer. This will open another window for that feature layer that contains information such as symbology and forms. Expanding the 'Forms' branch will give you a list of all of the properties of the forms. With this window selected, click on the 'Forms' button in the main toolbar that runs along the top of ArcPad Studio (it looks like two blue and white forms). This will open the 'Forms' editor. Choose which form you want to edit (EDIT or QUERY) or create a new form from here. For more information, consult the ArcPad Studio Help. Hope this helps!! Hannah Ferrier Mobile GIS Specialist, Maptel
