TransferArcGIS10 Desktop Shapefiles to Toughbook Running ArcPad 10 without ArcCatalog

How do I successfully transfer my shapefiles created in ArcGIS desktop 10 and then checkedout in ArcPad manager to a toughbook running ArcPad 10.  When I use Windows Explorer to drag and drop the shapefiles, the query windows and options are mess up in ArcPad.  The laptop does not have ArcGIS desktop nor is it available to install.  The shapefiles are editable and these are the only two that are causing problems in ArcPad.  When I deleted those two layers ArcPad works fine.  Is there any other way to transfer files to the toughbook without installing ArcGIS Desktop on it and moving the files through ArcCatalog? Thanks.

Hi Suzanne,

You don't need ArcCatalog to copy files to ArcPad - simply copy the entire folder you created during the check-out process onto your field device.

This can be done using ActiveSync for Windows Mobile Devices or by copying the folder between machines using an SD Card or USB Drive.

Once you have copied the folder (called DataForArcPad1 by default) onto your field device, open ArcPad and then use Open Map to browse to the map (.apm) that you created during check-out.

It should be that easy!!

Copied the entire folder.  My create polygons windows are still messed up.  I should probably mention I am going from ArcMap 10 to ArcPad 9.3.
