Hi Tim, All of your the forms you have built in ArcPad 8 will work just fine in ArcPad 10!! The Python support that has been added in ArcPad 10.0.3 allows you to use Python scripting for a Windows install of ArcPad (not Windows Mobile), but VBScript and JScript support are still there and are able to be used in both the Windows and Windows Mobile environments... I hope this answers your question!! Hannah Ferrier Mobile GIS Specialist Maptel

Could you give some more information about your workflows? What are you specifically are you trying to acheive? Both of these things are possible in ArcPad, both editing multiple features and editing multiple layers. Eg 1. If you are looking at making bulk updates to your data, you can use scripting to insert attribute data across multiple features. This can be acheived using the RecordSet Object with both Shapefiles and AXF data or SQL Update Commands in the AXF only. Eg 2. You can also capture features in multiple layers. If you select both a line and point feature to be editable in the Edit Menu (Big Pencil). When using GPS, use Capture GPS Vertices Tool to collect a line feature from streaming GPS positions and then use the Capture GPS Point Tool to collect point features along the way. Then, simply use the Proceed to Attribute Capture Tool (Big Green Arrow) when you are ready to complete the line feature. You can also collect a feature/vertex across multiple layers using custom scripting! There are many options available - it all depends on your project needs!! Sorry to thread-jack - but this is one of my favorite ArcPad features!! If you are collecting MULTIPLE features with the SAME attributes, just follow these steps to save time in the field: 1. Fill out your form ONCE then tap on the Repeat Attributes before tapping OK 2. Open the Table of Contents and turn off the Edit Form (3rd checkbox on the right, after Info and Edit) 3. Continue to Capture your Features. The Edit Form will be populated with the same info as the first form, BUT you will no longer see the Edit Form!! 🙂 Hannah

Hi Chad, Best practice for working with domains and subtypes in ArcPad is to set up all of your data rules in your geodatabase in the ArcMap environment. All of these rules will be translated into the AXF during check-out. Some conflicts can arise if you set some data rules in the geodatabase and others in the AXF - this is why ArcPad will perform a soft validation on your domain/subtype field before committing to the default value. The manifestation of this soft validation is that your field will appear empty until you tap on the control. This will trigger the validation and the default value will then populate the control. So, try setting your data rules in the geodatabase and let me know how you get on!! Hannah Ferrier Mobile GIS Specialist, Maptel

When using ArcPad 10 with ArcGIS 9.3 - you will get the ArcPad 8 Data Manager Toolbar in ArcMap. When using ArcPad 10 with ArcGIS 10 - you will get the ArcPad 10 Data Manager Toolbar in ArcMap. There have been many improvements made to the ArcPad 10 Data Manager Toolbar that may explain this behavior. For example - attempting to check-in AXF data with field names that are SQL reserved words will only work with the ArcPad 10 Data Manager Toolbar in ArcGIS 10. For a full list of improvements, see the ArcPad 10 Read Me which is installed in the Help folder with ArcPad 10. Hope this helps!!

Have you tried installing the ArcPad Sample Datasets and opening the maps on your device? If they all work OK, I would suggest that the problem is that your project is using datasets that are too large for the device to handle... ArcPad is optimized for working on mobile devices, but even if you can store up to 4GB of data on your storage card that does not mean that your device has the power to process all of that data (hence the Low Memory warning). Try limiting your background raster data to only the area you will be working in and make sure that you export all non-operational layers (layers NOT being edited in the field) as background AXF/Shapefiles. Hope this helps!!

This may be an issue related to having other programs open - especially Internet Explorer - when attempting to install ArcPad. Could you try to run the install again with no other programs open and let me know how you go? Thanks, Hannah Ferrier Mobile GIS Specialist, Maptel

Hi Tim, Navigate to the C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.0\Tools folder on your desktop machine and copy the files there to your ArcPad Applets folder (C:\Users\Public\Documents\ArcPad\Applets by default). Next time you fire up ArcPad, there will be a new toolbar with a tool to export your photolayer to a shapefile. Simply load your PhotoLayer into ArcPad and run the tool!! Hi Anas, If you have specified a 'DATE' field in your geodatabase datatset and use the ArcPad Data Manager Toolbar in ArcMap to check-out your ArcPad Project, the forms that are automatically generated for use in ArcPad will include a 'Date Picker' for the 'DATE' field. All the field user needs to do is click on the date in the calender to enter that information into the 'DATE' field. No scripting required!! Hannah Ferrier ArcPad Development Team

Hi all, You are absolutely correct in saying that the reason the Navigation Toolbar has not dissapeared completely is due to the StreetMap Extension applet tools. If you want to create an ArcPad project that will launch only with your applet toolbars and none of the ArcPad defaults - why not use ArcPad App Shortcuts? You can configure the shortcut to reference applets from any folder, choose to ignore the default applet path and remove all of the ArcPad default toolbars. Even better, you can configure shortcuts on a per-project basis without having to alter your default ArcPad work environment. This functionality was added in ArcPad 10.0.2. Thanks, Hannah Ferrier ArcPad Development Team

Hi Chris, I have tried to replicate your problem, but every time I check my edits in, my photos are copied to the folder specified at check-out without any issues... Could you please provide some more detailed information about your workflow? Maybe then we can figure this out for you & anyone else who may be experiencing similar (mis)behavior... Thanks, Hannah Ferrier Mobile GIS Specialist, Maptel (ArcPad Development Team)

Older versions of ArcPad are engineered to perform optimally with older hardware devices and vice-versa, so yes, ArcPad 7 doesn't look great on a device running Windows 6.5. But, even though there are some compatibility issues between versions of Windows Mobile - ArcPad is completely backwards compatible!! If your project works in ArcPad 7 - it will also work in ArcPad 10. Use the free 20 min trial download of ArcPad 10 to try it out... http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcpad/evaluate.html Hannah Ferrier Mobile GIS Specialist Maptel Pty. Ltd.

To use the align controls in ArcPad Studio, simply click on the control that you want to use as a template, then click on the control to be resized. Holding down the control key will put a red outline around the control that was last selected so you can see which control you are aligning to. Then use the Align controls in the Control menu. It is as easy as that, click on the control to align to, click on the control to align and then pick the Align tool you want to use from the menu!! Hope this helps!!
