I'm afraid that is how ArcPad Check-In and Check-Out is designed!! The data should only check into the original geodatabase is was checked out from. You could try to 'trick' the ArcPad Data Manager by replacing the original geodatabase with a copy using the exact same name in the exact same location for demonstration purposes... Let me know how you get on, Hannah

Hey Tim, To make your forms bigger, open up your AXF in ArcPad Studio, double-click on the layer and then double-click on 'FORMS'. Open up your Edit Form and select Form Properties from the Form Menu. See the attached screenshots to see the dropdown to choose the size of your forms. To make the individual controls bigger, you can select the inputs and change the width and height of the control in the Control Properties Menu. See the attached screenshot to help you increase the font for the controls using the same menu. Super-size your forms then use ArcPad on a laptop to make the most of your bigger screen! I hope this helps - let me know if you have anymore questions, Hannah

Hi Gustavo, A quick and easy way to restrict the functionality of ArcPad is to use Applet Toolbars and then create an App Shortcut. Using your example - the only tools I would need to take into the field would be the 'Select' tool to select the features and the 'Feature Properties' tool to launch the Form for feature editing. You can create a new Applet Toolbar by putting ArcPad into Design Mode and launching the Toolbar Editor. Select 'new' from the Toolbar Group dropdown and then build your Applet Toolbar with these tools (don't forget to add the 'Exit' tool too!). Make sure that the layer you want to work with is editable and save the map. Now you can create an App Shortcut that can launch ArcPad with ONLY the Applet Toolbar tools! Select a name and icon for your shortcut on the first tab, select your Applet Toolbar in the Applet Path dropdown on the second tab and uncheck 'Load Startup Configuration and Toolbars' on the third tab (Remember - make the shortcut on the device you will be using it on as you cannot copy Windows shortcuts to Windows Mobile 😞 ) Make sure that the forms for this layer only include the fields that you want to edit and remove the geography tab (to stop users updating feature geometry) using ArcPad Studio. The easiest way to disable functionality is to remove it from the toolbars! And using an App Shortcut means field workers can launch their own custom version ArcPad using an icon to easily identify their projects! Let me know if this works for you! Hannah

Hi Jessica, The behavior you are experiencing is a result of ArcPad labels more closely reflecting the behavior of labels in ArcMap. This was a deliberate action to ensure consistency in label behavior between ArcMap and ArcPad. You can always export your labels to annotation for more advanced label placement in ArcMap and bring those annotations into ArcPad using the Graphics Layer. I hope this helps, Hannah

Hi John, I would recommend converting all of your rasters to .TIFF images. .GIF images draw using 'sequential streaming' - which means that the image begins drawing in the top left and then row after row of pixels. This can impact on your drawing performance because regardless of the area of the raster that is displayed on your map, the .GIF will draw the ENTIRE image from left to right, top to bottom. .TIFF images will draw ONLY the area visible on your map which means faster maps and better performance. You will also be able to achieve comparative compression using the .TIFF format. This is why .TIFF is the best raster format for use in ArcPad. For more information on choosing raster formats, see this ArcPad Help article. 🙂 Hannah

Hi Marcus, I have not heard of anyone experiencing the problem that you seem to have, but there are a few things you can try if you are having trouble with ArcPad: - Full uninstall/reinstall: I know it sounds drastic, but this way all of settings are reverted back to their defaults and your ArcPad.apx file (all of your configurations) is replaced with a clean, new version. This will let you know if it is any custom configurations that are causing your problem. - Data: If your issue is occurring with your project data, try the same operations with the provided ArcPad Sample Data. If the Sample Data is working fine - this is a cue to look at your project data. You may even try checking out your data again to create a new project. - ArcPad Studio: This is the place to open up both your data and configuration files to have a closer look at their insides. Again, use a clean ArcPad.apx or the ArcPad Sample Data to compare to your project to find anything that may be causing you problems. - New version of ArcPad: There is a 20 minute trial version of the latest version of ArcPad on the ESRI website. Try using this version of ArcPad to replicate your problem. This will indicate a version-specific issue that may have already been fixed in a later version of ArcPad. If you are currently on maintenance, please contact ESRI Support to see if they can help you. 🙂 Hannah

Hi Scott, I have had this happen to me when I have been installing and uninstalling different versions of ArcPad. My advice would be to do a full uninstall of ArcPad and then perform a fresh install of ArcPad. It is possible that some of the folders (eg. the icons folder) that were installed by ArcPad have been moved/removed. Have you re-mapped your My Documents path recently? Are you logging onto the machine with a different profile? Let me know how you get on, Hannah

You can change the size of the Tool Buttons in ArcPad as follows: Open the Quick Access Menu (small arrow on far left of toolbar) and select Toolbars -> Toolbar Settings On this dialog, the Toolbars Tab has the settings for the size of:
Toolbar Buttons (icons on the toolbar) Command Buttons (icons on dialogs) Drop-Down Buttons (icons on drop-down menus from the toolbar)
Enter a button size number for the first two settings and set the slider to adjust the size of the drop-down buttons. These changes are saved in your ArcPadPrefs.apx file so you could also copy the ArcPadPrefs.apx from the My ArcPad folder on your desktop (if it has your preferred button sizes) to the My ArcPad folder your mobile device if you prefer. I hope this helps, Hannah

Hello, ArcPad doesn't have automated check-in procedures: this means that after you have collected your field data, you still need to connect your device to your desktop computer using active sync/windows mobile device center (or use an SD card) to physically copy the AXF data onto your machine. This is the AXF that you need to browse to when using the Get Data From ArcPad tool. When you say that you can see changes on your device but there are no features being checked-in, that leads me to think that you need to copy the AXF from your device and onto your desktop computer before using the ArcPad Data Manager Tools. Another couple of issues that can cause trouble when checking-in are: the name and the location of the original geodatabase CANNOT CHANGE between check-out and check-in once your edits have been checked-in, the 'flags' in the AXF that indicate changed/new/deleted records are reset, meaning that you can only check your edits in ONCE I hope this helps and please let me know how you get on, Hannah

Hi Adam, When you install ArcPad 10, it will detect which version of ArcMap you have installed on your machine. If it is ArcMap 9.3, then you will have an ArcPad 10 installation, BUT the ArcPad Data Manager Toolbar (in ArcMap) will be the ArcPad 8 Toolbar. If it is ArcPad 10, then you will have and ArcPad 10 installation and the ArcPad Data Manager Toolbar will be the ArcPad 10 Toolbar (new features and functionality). So either way - your version of ArcPad will be ArcPad 10 -it is only the ArcMap Tools that will be different depending on your version of ArcMap. If you are planning on upgrading your ArcMap installation from 9.3 to 10, you will need to uninstall and reinstall ArcPad to detect the new version and install the new tools. Thanks, Hannah 🙂

Hello, DOMAINS are a geodatabase feature and as such, can only be properly translated into an AXF (think of it as an ArcPad mini-geodatabase) - not a shapefile 😞 If you want to include a drop-down list of values for your shapefiles there are a couple of options: If you only have a few values in your domain, you can use ArcPad to build a QuickForm with drop-down lists for your shapefile. Simply list your values separated by a comma in the selected field on the Controls page of the QuickForm dialog. If you have lots of values - you should list them in a table and then associate the to the shapefile field using the Forms Editor in ArcPad Studio. Both of these techniques are well documented in the ArcPad Help. - Hannah
