My apologies for not being more descriptive 😞 Let me try to demonstrate: The ThisEvent object represents an ArcPad event that is occurring at a particular time and supplies a series of standard properties such as object, name and result. For example: a person is an object. It has properties such as NAME, AGE and GENDER. It also has events such as TALK, RUN and SIT. However, using ThisEvent.object exposes that the RUN event has properties: DIRECTION and SPEED. So every time the person runs we can tell how fast they are going. An ArcPad example could be to check if the textboxName has a value entered using it's onValidate event - If textBoxName = "" then ThisEvent.Result = False ThisEvent.MessageText = ??Please enter a Name? End If As you can see, instead of writing "layer.forms("EDITFORM").pages("PAGEONE").controls("textBoxName")", I have used ThisEvent to refer to the control. This also allows for the re-use of scripts as ThisEvent is generic and can be used to refer to any control, simply copy your script to run on different control events. Hope this is more helpful, Hannah 🙂

On the first page of the Get Data for ArcPad Wizard, you will notice a set of check boxes - one for each layer - along the right-hand side. They are used to set a previous AXF to be used as a Template for your check out. These check boxes are automatically set to tell ArcPad Data Manager to use the AXF that was checked out after the FIRST time as a template for your next check out when you are using the same data. This can be super-useful as checking these boxes can use all of the scripts and form customization you already have in your AXF for any subsequent check outs of the same data. If your underlying data has changed, you should uncheck these boxes to create a new set of default forms during check out. You can always reset the Template AXF by checking the box and browsing to the AXF layer (including custom forms) that you want to use after updating your forms. See HERE for more... - Hannah

Hi Jamal, You are correct - ArcPad will save your Point Feature as soon as you select 'OK' and the Edit Form closes. For Polyline and Polygon Features - you launch the Edit Form by selecting 'Proceed to Attribute Capture' - the ArcPad will save your Polyline/Polygon Feature as soon as you select 'OK' and the Edit Form closes. This is different from ArcMap where all edits in an edit session must be saved - ArcPad will commit each feature as soon as both the geometry and attributes have been captured 🙂 - Hannah

Hi Jamal, No - there is currently no option to set the zoom direction of the mousewheel in ArcPad. This may be a good idea for ideas.arcgis.com ? - Hannah

Hi Jamal, Quick Draw is a feature specific to ArcPad that allows users to scale back their graphics when working on Windows Mobile devices. By 'scaling back', I mean the simplification of the map graphics - point symbols become simple dots, polygon fills are removed, lines become course and all color is removed. This will give a 'wire-frame' or 'skeleton' look to your data. The ability to scale back the graphics in your map is used to free up memory and ArcPad will switch on Quick Draw automatically if your device begins running dangerously low on memory. In the Table of Contents, you have the option to select which layers will be drawn in full, which will be scaled back and which layers will be switched off when ArcPad enters Quick Draw mode. This can help you to identify your operational layers while scaling back your reference data if needed. See HERE for more information. -Hannah

Hello! Please make sure that you are copying the entire project folder from your device onto the machine on which you are planning to perform your check-in. You can check your data by opening your project in ArcPad on this machine. The ArcPad Data Manager requires a local data source and will not perform a check-in on files that are still on the device. Hi Bill, Good news!! In ArcPad 10.2 we have introduced QuickFields - which are designed to do exactly what you are after!! To set up: Create fields in your points layer to store the lat/long data (eg. PointX & PointY) Add data to ArcPad (this will make sure your data is loaded into the QuickFields Expression Builder) Put ArcPad into Design Mode Select the QuickFields tool to launch the Expression Builder and Select ADD to create a new expression Choose the LAYERS option, then select your Layer and Field from the Drop-Down Lists Give your expression a name (this helps you manage multiple rules) Select POINTS as your filter and SHAPE X or SHAPE Y as your function This will add the function to your expression (the blue text at the bottom of the Expression Builder) Select OK and repeat the process for the next field include both X and Y Take ArcPad out of Design Mode select the QuickFields Tool to switch QuickFields ON for your map Now when you collect your points - these fields will auto-populate with the SHAPE X and SHAPE Y data 🙂 See here for more details, Hannah 🙂

Short answer - yes Longer answer - Your data must be in the same projection to be used in ArcPad. ArcPad can not add layers with different projections to the same map. The only exception to this is StreetMap or ArcGIS Online basemaps. Otherwise, ArcPad does not reproject data on-the-fly. See here for more information. Hannah 🙂

Hi Jamal, The tools you are refering to are called the Navigator Toolbar tools and they are present in ArcPad on the map instead of on a toolbar. They are designed as a set of use-once tools that can be used for quick navigation (zoom in, zoom out, pan, full extent) when using other data editing tools. The Navigator Toolbar can be customized to make the tool selections permanant - but then you have lost the ability to use the navigation tools while editing. Hannah 🙂

You will need to uninstall and reinstall ArcPad to install the Data Manager Toolbar if you have installed a newer version of ArcMap. The ArcPad Data Manager Toolbar and other ArcPad Toolbar Tools will have installed into your ArcMap 10 folder. An uninstall/reinstall will place them in the new ArcMap 10.1 folder. A couple of other things to try if you still cannot find the ArcPad Data Manager Toolbar in ArcMap 10.1: - Make sure ArcPad and ArcMap are both installed on the same machine (the toolbar is included in the ArcPad installation). - Make sure that you have enabled the ArcPad Data Manager Extension by selecting Extensions from the Customize menu and check the box next to ArcPad Data Manager. - Right-click on any area in the toolbar in ArcMap and check ArcPad Data Manager to add the toolbar to your map. Hope this helps, Hannah 🙂

For those using ArcPad 10.2 - check out the new QUICKFIELDS functionality. This allows you to set rules for the auto-population of attribute data eg. x, y, date, time, auto-increment values and more! Simply map the expressions you build in ArcPad to the fields in your data, switch on QuickFields and watch the data appear in your forms as you collect new features 🙂 Hannah
