This is a perfect scenario for setting up your geodatabase to use subtypes!! Using subtypes will allow you to apply coded or ranged domains to features, enabling you to constrain input information to a valid set of values. For example, in a water distribution network, the subtype 'water mains' could have a coded domain for building materials restricting them to be made of cast iron, ductile iron, or copper. Subtype/domain relationships in the geodatabase are exported to ArcPad during checkout using the Data Manager Toolbar. - Hannah

Hey Colin, The tool is still included in ArcPad - it's just not on the default toolbars 🙂 You can add it to your Favourites Toolbar by checking the box next to the 'Reproject Shapefile' Tool or, Drag and Drop the tool onto a Default (or new) Toolbar in the Toolbar Editor (for ArcPad 10.0.2 +) 🙂 - Hannah

Please try collecting the initial vertex of your line using the Capture Vertex Tool. Once your starting point has been collected - turn on the Streaming GPS Tool to collect the remainder of your line feature. NOTE: Ensure that your line feature has been selected for editing in the Edit Menu before capturing any vertices. Hannah 🙂

After saving your changes in ArcPad Studio, make sure you close the AXF before trying to use it in ArcPad. Avoid having a single AXF open for editing in both ArcPad and ArcPad Studio 🙂 Hannah

THE 10.0.4 DOWNLOAD ON THE CUSTOMER CARE PORTAL IS NOT CORRUPTED!! Just make sure that you do not have your internet browser open when you are installing and you should have no issues. The Esri true type fonts will not install if you have an active internet browser session open. NOTE: especially when using Windows 8 (different mechanism for closing win8 apps) - make sure the browser is CLOSED and not running in the background Thanks, Hannah

If you are having connectivity issues, you always have the option to copy the ArcPad Application.ARM.CAB file (found in the C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad10.0\CABs Folder) onto your device using an SD Card. Then, on your Windows Mobile Device, simply select the .CAB file in File Explorer to install ArcPad. You could also try an uninstall/reinstall of Windows Mobile Device Centre/ActiveSync or a hard reset of your device to fix your connectivity issues... Hope this helps, Hannah

Hi Reed, If you are using ArcPad 10 on your PC to check-out and check-in your projects, you can still use your ArcPad 8 devices to edit your projects in the field. The same maps (.apm) and data (.axf) are used in both versions. BUT - you will not be able to benefit from all of the new features, bug fixes and general awesome-sauce that comes with ArcPad 10 😞 This includes access to Online Basemaps, improvements to camera support and drawing performance, the QuickCapture Toolbar and ArcPad Shortcut Apps!! Every ArcPad License includes one (1) Desktop and one (1) Mobile Installation, so feel free to install ArcPad 10 on a device to see if your project could benefit from these improvements! -Hannah

Not quite my area of expertise, but it seems that there may be a license restriction on adding attachments using the GeoTagged Photos to Points Tool. Adding attachments requires at minimum an ArcGIS for Desktop Standard license, and the output feature class must be in a version 10 or higher geodatabase. See the ArcGIS 10.1 Help 🙂

Hi Daniel, An ArcPad Photo Layer is a collection of Photos that have Location Information in the EXIF Header (Geo-Tagged Photos). See this ArcWatch Article to learn how to import geo-tagged photos into ArcMap. But if you wanted to use ArcPad, we have included a tool to make a shapefile using the photo locations and reference the Photo names in the attributes... The Photo Layer to Shapefile Applet is included in the ArcPad Install in the C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcPad10\Tools Folder. Simply copy all of the Photo Layer files to your Applets Folder (C:\Users\Public\Documents\ArcPad\Applets) and open ArcPad to use the Tool. Hope this helps!! Hannah

Hi Alex, Unfortunately, the forms in ArcPad cannot use predictive text (but it is an idea that you can vote for on the Esri Ideas Page). May I suggest that you split your species names into 2 fields - one for genus and one for species - and then build subtypes for each genus? For example - if the genus selected is Homo then the species dropdown would be limited to Sapiens, Habilus and Erectus. This will save having to scroll through every species when in the field! See the ArcGIS Desktop Help for more details on Subtypes!! Thanks, Hannah

Hi Dag, Apologies for the late reply 😞 The ability to select a projection for your QuickProject only applies to Default QuickProjects. Any QuickProject Templates - custom or included with ArcPad - cannot be re-projected when creating a QuickProject. The Projections Icon should be disabled when Templates other than the Default QuickProject have been selected. I would suggest creating 2 templates, each with a different projection to include as QuickProject Templates if your project covers different zones. Thanks, Hannah

Hello! ArcPad Photo Layers (and shapefiles made from Photo Layers) are not designed to include the folder location of the photos. However, ArcPad will do this when you are taking photos attached to features. When you are using the Data Manager to check out your feature layer, be sure to configure you photo folder location on the Picture Options page. This way, when you check your data back in, the full folder path will be included in the specified Photo Field to work as a hyperlink in ArcGIS Desktop. If this function is really important to your workflow, consider creating a point layer with a photo field to capture your pictures using the ArcPad Data Manager to check in and out of ArcGIS Desktop instead of an ArcPad Photo Layer. Hope this helps, Hannah
