256 x 256 raster tiles can be used with 512 x 512 vector tiles. The ArcGIS Online basemaps that use raster hillshades demonstrate this very concept. If you're unable to combine two services, it's likely that they're incompatible in another way. 256x256 is a in inefficient size for vector tile workflows. Since the content is vector and there are optimizations when the tile contains more data, 512 x 512 is a good compromise between size and efficiency. ... View more

The functionality you are referencing for points is specific to shape markers and is for embedding an existing point symbol into a shape marker. This is not applicable to other symbol layer types. If you wish to apply a symbol to all selected graphic elements on a layout you can use the ribbon gallery. If you wish to import symbol layers of existing symbols into your symbol you can do this on the structure tab of the symbol editor as show below:   ... View more

@IlkaIllers1 Sorry for the delay in replying. What's unclear to me is whether these are straight labels along the line or horizontal near the line. You use both terms. I'm also not sure why aligning to the direction of the line doesn't work because that's the stated original reason for wanting to rotate them according to direction. Annotation isn't going anywhere. We have numerous users in the parcel community who are successfully working with annotation. We also have users who are successful with just labeling.
