Erin- Yes, you can record information for point features when using the GPS to collect or update the position using your GPS regardless of whether you are using an integrated receiver or an external GNSS receiver. You'll need to add some specific fields to your feature class to allow Collector to store this information (we look for well-known fields). There are a set of python scripts to help you quickly add these to your feature classes. You can read more about this here: Record GPS metadata—Collector for ArcGIS | ArcGIS. Depending on the receiver we may only get a subset of the information about the position (in these cases the OS does not provide all the information to us). -Doug

Stephan- You'll want to select the point feature you want to update, then tap edit. While editing, tap the Current location button, which will update the location to use your device's current GPS location (provided that it falls within the required accuracy. -Doug

I'd recommend storing the time in UTC unless you have a specific reason not to; clients like Collector for ArcGIS will automatically apply the appropriate time zone offset so it is displayed in local time of the device/user rather than where the database physically resides (which might be in a different time zone altogether). -Doug

Hi Mark- I'd certainly recommend using a related table for this workflow. Many folks with similar workflows utilize this approach successfully. There's a lesson you can read through/follow to help you get started: Inspect a hydrant—Manage a Mobile Workforce | ArcGIS -Doug

Hi Brian- As you discovered, there is no action required within Collector (or your ArcGIS organization) to support storage of EXIF metadata associated with the photos. While it isn't directly available within Collector, having that information at a later date can be useful for scenarios such as the one you mentioned. -Doug

The 10.4 versions of Collector (iOS and Windows) now offer support for calling Collector via a URL scheme. This is the same capability used by Workforce. Today we published a GitHub repo that outlines how to launch Collector from another app or web page, along with some helper classes to make the process easier. -Doug

Brian- No such setting exists, though you could limit them to only editing features that they have created. One consideration is that you'd probably want to allow the field worker would be able to correct a mistake made during collection, which would not be possible in the desired scenario you described.

Hi Brian- You can configure the service to only allow users to update the attribute information; this will be respected within Collector. You'll want to update the setting below on the Item Details page of your service. -Doug

I'd appreciate it if you can provide any additional context about these feature services. If you all can provide answers to the following questions it would help us better understand the issue you're experiencing: How were the services published (e.g. from ArcMap, Pro, copying an existing service)? Were they recently created? If so, when? Are they on-premise or hosted feature services on ArcGIS Online? -Doug

In addition to Tobias' suggestion, you might want to ensure this particular user's role within the ArcGIS Organization is the same as your other users who are not seeing the problem. For a given role editing of features can be disabled. -Doug
