Maybe it´s good to read these topics first: reading geomeries and writing geometries.

The easiest way would be to merge or append the polygon featureclasses into 1 featureclass and then rasterize. You can also rasterize each featureclass with the tool you mentioned, but the merging process in raster format is a little more tricky.

The Help dos not contain any specifics on how it manages multiple adjacent polygons: To be selected, the geometry of the target feature must fall inside the geometry of the source feature. Selected features and source features can have overlapping boundaries. Just zoom in to several specific cases and evaluate if if did what you wanted. This type of analysis is normally done in the raster format using zonal statistics: ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2)

Have you looked at the 3 polylines? Do they have a zero length or do their start and end points match? What is their orientation? Can they be multipart polylines?

AGOL = ArcGIS Online, API means application programming interface. You can see the list of available API's and SDK's (Software Development Kits) here: ArcGIS for Developers An example of a heatmap using the JavaScript API can be found here: Explore Heat Maps | ArcGIS API for JavaScript A heat map is basically a type of visualization while dot density and hot spot analysis are real types of analysis. A very useful resource is the blog post by Lauren Rosenshein: Spatial Statistics Resources | ArcGIS Blog Kind regards, Xander

The easiest thing would be to have a MXD with the resources you published and do this at the AGOL4O of the client. If however you created webmaps and changed settings of the layers, then your MXD will not reflect them. In that case you may want to look at the REST API. This page shows how to access an item and obtain the definition in json: ArcGIS REST API At the client you can Add the item or Update an extisting item through REST. I would think however that you are not the first one to encounter this problem and there may be a much easier solution for this.

If you don't need to change the configuration and the Story Map you are looking for is available as template and the data is published with public access, you can deploy it in ArcGIS Online, Otherwise download and configure for use on your local webserver,

Just to be sure, where and how are you going to create the heatmap? Using Esri Maps for Office (can't upload the heatmap to AGOL) or using an API (like js). In AGOL you have analysis options to create hotspots, but be aware that heatmap is a visualization type while hot spot is an analysis.

I don't think this can be done. If you have the source data this can be delivered to the client and after publishing you can update the definition using the json from your AGOL item.

Hi Justin, I don't think the idea is to store two types of different data in 1 field. I did some testing in ArcGIS Desktop and it seems to be possible. I am not so sure if this will be supported by AGOL. What you will need to do is to create 4 domains: A coded value domain that holds two values (Month and Name) A coded value domain that holds the months (with values 1 to 12) A coded value domain that holds the names (values should not be in the range of 1 to 12) A coded value domain that holds the months and the names (values and descriptions should correspond to the previous domains!) When you create the subtypes you can define the default values AND assign a different domain to the field with the names and or months. When editing, you can choose the datatype: And depending on what you choose as data type (Month or Name) the list of values is changed according to the domain related to the default value for the field: or The result is: ... although I don't think you should do this... Kind regards, Xander

It would be best to manage the data as two separate layers.

How do you specify the distance? It will be interpreted as degrees... Maybe the best option is to project the data, create the parallel lines and project the data back.
