30009: Composite locator will be copied to the server Desktop » Mapping » Publishing map services » Technical guide for map services » Prepare window messages The composite locator you are going to publish will be copied to the server. Solution Do nothing. The composite locator must be copied to the server. More Information If the participating locators are stored in a folder or geodatabase that is registered as a store, only the composite locator, not the participating locators, will be copied to the server. To learn more about managing service data in a server, see Copying data to the server automatically when publishing and Making your data accessible to ArcGIS Server. Peter This is an ArcGIS 10.1 help document, so it looks like the composite locator must be copied to the server, but it is just a pointer to the other locators so it is really not a heavy load. There were a ton of changes between 10.0 to 10.1 just in the framework of how services are setup and the publishing process.

Have you tried publishing direct from the Composite locator instead of using a service definition file to publish? If so and it still does not work, how are you adding your data connections in your locators? Is it UNC, SDE connections, or mapped drives.... check your locator data stores and make sure that one of the data stores is not referencing a mapped drive that the server does not recognize.

Adrian I think you are on the right track as far as what you are thinking. If you want to be able to edit through desktop you will edit the database directly through a database connection and ArcGIS online the best solution for you would be hosting your own service and re-direct this out through ArcGIS online as a feature service in some sort of web map that you want to create for editing. This way all of the data is stored locally and updates automatically show up at all points. The other option would be to publish everything to AGO turning on feature access and Map Tile for the service this way you will have a map service and feature service. The only problem with this is your Desktop edits will be downloading from AGO and then you will push back out which is not as dynamic as the locally hosted server. Remember to shut off cache automatically!!!!!!! One thing to think about is if your internal server will be exposed to the web, if not you will have to make sure that anyone that wants to see your service through ArcGIS online or Desktop for ArcGIS is connected to your domain "Local Network". The only way around this is if your organization has some sort of VPN client that allows external networks entrance into your domain if they are an authenticated user. When you publish a service you will activate capabilities for Mapping and Feature Access. This will create a rest endpoint for both a Map Service and a Feature Service. If the feature service does not support the symbology and labels that you like publish 2 services pointing back to the same data source one for feature access and one as just a map service. The feature service will be what you will use in ArcGIS online to do your edits, but you could add both the feature and the map service to the same web map so the symbology/ labels show correct, and the feature service I would make 100% transparent. This way it looks like you want, but your web interaction is actually with a feature service layer sitting on top of your map service. These services are added to an arcgis online or any application through the rest endpoint that is created when the server is installed. http://machinename/arcgis/rest/services/FolderName(if one exists on your server/servicename/MapServer http://machinename/arcgis/rest/services/FolderName(if one exists on your server/servicename/FeatureServer In ArcGIS online you will add them through "Add Item" "From Web" The urls above will be what you add if you want to add your services to a web map. You can control security on your server through built in stores or use your windows logins. I would suggest standing this up on your local machine with (sql express that is free and shipped with your workgroup license) for you to test and mess around with. If you are going to be the one managing the site there is no reason to not make use of your license just to get an idea of how things work. There are a lot of moving parts in an enterprise system so the more hands on you are the more comfortable you will feel in the long run. No sense in waiting around for the justification of a server if the software is just sitting around collecting dust. The only way you will justify is if you can model workflows and the power of the system in a small scale deployment. The first thing I would try and justify is a course through esri on Server. If not hopefully some of my commentary above will get you going. Good Luck!!

This may force us into a vm environment if we have to many problems. We are a little different then most organizations as we are a separate local government 28E agency (In Iowa) that provides GIS services to all the local government organizations within our area through a cost sharing approach. Our principal partners are all in a VM environment being the City, County and Public utility. They can justify the expense as they have many other business systems that they have to support. The centralized GIS enterprise environment that we host is for GIS only and we have not been able to justify the expense of a SAN and VM up to this point. We have built a rather robust environment that serves all of our partners and the general public with efficiency and has been very functional. We will see how this transition goes though! Michael Thanks for the response. The only problem with building 2 2012 servers in tandem with our current setup is that we are not running VM so it is not as easy to push out multiple servers. We have two physical servers a development and production. My thinking with the A- Names was if the production server is offline during the upgrade it would not try and route to the production, is this not the case? I am definitely not the network guy and our IT department is pretty hands off on GIS stuff so just trying to present them with a plan of attack. I am always a little iffy on changing things in the DNS, but don't know a better approach other than what you have said about the build out of 2 parallel instances of ArcGIS server. The big problem for us is that we are still on physical servers so not easy to roll up multiple servers at once. No licensing issues as we have an ELA. All We are currently working on upgrading our Production ArcGIS Server 10.3.1 windows operating system from 2008 to 2012 and we would like to know if anyone has any helpful tips on this transition that will minimize downtime. Our plan thus far is the following and any helpful tips would be great. We have just moved our sql databases onto their own server separate from the ArcGIS server so the data will still be accessible from any ArcGIS server that we stand up. Our process that we are thinking is as follows, let me know if others think this will work or if there is a better way. 1. Upgrade a development server to Windows 2012. 2. Mirror production server on development so that data accessed that does not come from sql databases will be accessed even if production is down. 3. Set service .mxd's that reference file geodatabases to relative path. 4. Export Site from production through ArcGIS server admin 5. Import site from previous backup onto the development server. 6. Copy cache directories from production to development server. 7. Setup 1 A-Name to 2 IP addresses in DNS so Web Adaptor will still recognize development as production. 8. Shut down production and see if everything works, if not bring production back up and re-think our process. 9. Use development as production while the production server is rebuilt. Let me know if anyone can see something that we may be missing or will not work! Thanks

Jordan I have seen this you need to make sure that your appid is correct in the signininfo.json file in the server directory of the web appbuilder. Update this and it should work correctly. Also you want to make sure that your computer name or IP has not changed on the development machine you are using. Great!! The firmware, yes we have been burned in the past with firmware so always good to run upgrades periodically. Hope this works for you. Mark Yerington, GISP MAGIC GIS Systems Analyst 3205 CEDAR ST | MUSCATINE, IA 52761 PH: 563.262.3316 | CELL: 563.260.4525

Dan Did you go into android developer options and allow mock locations. Don't think this would make a difference. I do also have trimble rtx installed on my android phone that I had set up prior to testing the R8 for other purposes. That would be the only things I can think of. My workflow Bluetooth connection to R8 through android bluetooth. Go to GNSS status and connect. I tried it with a Leica GNSS receiver and I could bluetooth, but it would not connect through GNSS status either. Sounds similar to what you are running into. Not sure what would be causing this.

If you use the GNSS status app from trimble it will give you what your accuracy is.

Robert In the tabbed theme the buffer does not stay displayed when you switch to the print widget. I checked the box to have the buffer added to the table of contents, and it does. This however is checked on when you go from search to TOC. If I uncheck and check on then the buffer will stay displayed when printing. If you could just point me in the right direction where to look for keeping the buffer active that would be great. I would like the buffer to be active until I hit the clear button in the search widget.
