The code snippet below is part of my Python tool which makes this easy. In my code, this is run within a loop for multiple layers and it very slow, as it has to wait for ArcGIS Pro to add each layer to the map and then remove it again. ArcGIS Pro is the most unresponsive application I've used on any OS anywhere anytime ever (can you tell it annoys me? A lot.). Before this snippet, the logic gets a list of all featutre classes in the new Data Source and for each of the old feature classes to be changed, it checks the list to make sure that there is one with a matching name in the new Data Source to use as 'fcNew'. If there is not, then my particular tool will output a warning, and depending on another parameter in the tool, may also remove the layer if its data source could not be updated (due to no matching FC in the new DS). fcNew = os.path.join(newDS, fcName)
tmpLayer = map.addDataFromPath(fcNew)
newProperties = tmpLayer.connectionProperties
map.removeLayer(tmpLayer)
## arcpy.AddMessage("OLD connection properties:\n{}".format(layer.connectionProperties))
layer.updateConnectionProperties(layer.connectionProperties, newProperties)
## arcpy.AddMessage("NEW connection properties:\n{}".format(layer.connectionProperties))

I need this. I have a layout with 9 map frames (1 main frame and 8 enlargement map frames). Each of I do have extent indicators with line leaders, but the government department requires them all to have "See enlargement X" labels. This is not a one-off map, either. It is a type of map I have to produce on a regular basis. Labelling each of these extent indicators with a graphic/text/annotation every time, is very tedious. All the data required to create automatic labels for them is already there in the extent properties.

Did you ever have any luck with this? I'm having a similar problem. In my case, there is a dependency there, but it's wrong, and I want to change it, but clicking on it does nothing.

I went for the full-on sledge-hammer approach. Here's what worked for me: Add a NEW TEMPORARY layer to the map from the equivalent feature class in the new data source (using some matching of names logic from the feature class of the old layer) Get the connection properties of this temporary layer (into a Python variable) Remove the new temporary layer from the map Replace the connection properties of the original layer with the connection properties of the (removed) temporary layer yay! it works at last!

Same issue here, with v2.8.3. Calculating values (including geometries) for feature classes with a RELATIONSHIP often required use of an edit session in ArcMap. Feature classes with ATTACHMENTS are the most common RELATED feature classes, and therefore where I used to most commonly saw such issues in ArcMap. The solution in ArcMap was to simply start an edit session, run the process, then close/save the edits. I believe that this is the same issue but with a misleading error message. I'm getting this error in Pro only for a feature class with RELATIONSHIP (in my case, attachments). But Pro doesn't (by default) use edit sessions like ArcMap did. So how do we get around this in Pro? WORK AROUND that solves the problem for me: I got this to work successfully by doing it in ArcMap instead (and using an edit session). Let's hope it gets fixed (again?) before ArcMap becomes unsupported.

yeah... disable the incorrect error, so that when we get a legitimate error, we won't know about it.

The accepted solution doesn't seem to fit my situation where the basemap is a standard ESRI basemap, and the map's spatial reference system is selected from ArcGIS Pro's available SRSs.

Same problem here, with ArcGIS Pro 2.8.1. (I don't recall this happening on earlier versions, but my use of earlier versions has been very limited - just getting serious about switching from ArcMap now.) I start with a blank project, create a new map, it automatically assigns our organisation default map (the ESRI standard "Light Gray Canvas" basemap). We also have ArcGIS Pro configured to use our standard spatial reference system of "GDA 1994 MGA Zone 55", which of course is not the same SRS as the basemap. So even with no layers added to the map (apart from the basemap), I get this error every time I open a map!

I have just experienced this serious issue. I left the GIS server running an analysis overnight. When I got back to it this morning, the analysis had completed. I attempted to close ArcGIS Pro, but the project failed to save (I didn't record the error at that point). I then closed it without saving, as nothing in the project itself should have changed recently (just the data). Then I attempted to re-open the project, but it didn't exist (same errors as others have found here, including missing .aprx file)! There were no backups in the projects ".backups" folder, so I've now had to log a job with our IT people to have the .aprx file recovered from their backups. This is a fairly horrific experience, being fairly new to ArcGIS Pro, and about to start transitioning our entire organisation to Pro.

We are considering transitioning to ArcGIS Pro soon, but it didn't take long in my early testing to come across this horrendous bug. It's a complete show-stopper. It's simply not possible to use Pro when this happens. Have to hard-kill it using the task manager (ESC doesn't help in my case). Please fix this !

I was having this problem (share button appeared, but clicking on it did nothing apart from causing the page to freeze - this is with Chrome Version 89.0.4389.72 (Official Build) (32-bit). Whitelisting our ArcGIS Online site in the Ad-Blocker settings fixed it. Thanks so much for this advice. It's unfortunate that ESRI have not been able to resolve this properly after so many years (even it it means they have to work with Ad-Block developers to get it fixed).

I'm in a similar situation. We have some current projects which are highly dependant on ArcMap and Python Add-Ins. When they are completed (~3 years time?), I will consider whether we go to ArcGIS Pro without Python Add-Ins or whether we move to QGIS. It's too difficult to make a decision right now, of course, and will require a thorough investigation of the pros and cons. But right now, it looks like ESRI is heading in a different direction to our GIS.

Do you mean Export Data in the survey123.arcgis.com site? (I can't see an export data option in the REST interface). If there is some other export option that I've missed, I'll be keen to try it. EDIT: Oh, hang on, I think you mean the Export Data option on the feature service in AGOL. The reason is that I was ignorant of this option. Tried it just now, and it works! So thanks. This work around should do the trick for us for now. I'd still like Survey123 (and create replica) to be fixed, but in the meantime, I now have a work around. Thanks. 🙂 EDIT AGAIN: No, actually that fails too. The "Exporting" text appears for a while, and then disappears. If I then go to the location where the new fGDB was supposed to be saved it is there, and I can download it (which is why I thought it worked), but the downloaded zip file is only 189 bytes, and cannot be unzipped.

PS. I've just found this "under consideration" bug: BUG-000113141: Exporting survey results to file geodatabase format .. Which indicates that it's not possible to export to File Geodatabase if there are survey labels (attribute aliases?) greater than 255 characters. However, this does not apply to our survey that we're having trouble with.
