Weird. Could you try one step at a time like don't center align and see if it helps. Or maybe try in a new Journal. Can you paste here the full HTML of that section?

Hey Martha, I am not sure if it's last released that affected you or the release before but indeed it looks like the editor doesn't like to add a div or empty span inside a paragraph. But the following is working for me (no change for the select tag). See it live at https://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapJournal/index.html?appid=a5cf5e14b00743eeafee531999972781 <p>test</p>
<p><select name="menu" onchange="window.open(this.options[this.selectedIndex].value)"><option disabled="disabled" selected="selected">Click for Additional Information</option><option value="http://planning.lacounty.gov/ela">East LA 3rd Street Specific Plan</option> </select></p>
<p><a onclick="require(['dojo/topic'], function(topic){ topic.publish('story-navigate-section', 0); });" target="_blank"><span class="dot glyphicon glyphicon-home"> </span></a></p>

See the following Journal that is using the markup below https://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapJournal/index.html?appid=a4bf5f619eea481590887af84bef0bfd By replacing the button tag with a "a" tag I am able to get a working dropdown <p>test <a class="btn-orange" href="http://www.arcgis.com" target="_blank">Show 100-year floodplain</a></p>
<style type="text/css">.btn-orange {
display: inline-block;
background-color: #f0ad4e;
border-color: #f0ad4e !important;
color: #fff !important;
padding: 3px 8px;
border-radius: 5px;
}
</style>
<div class="dropdown">
<p> </p>
<p><a class="btn btn-primary dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown" target="_blank" type="button">Dropdown Example </a></p>

<li><a href="#" target="_blank">CSS</a></li>
<li><a href="#" target="_blank">JavaScript</a></li>
</ul>
</div> With our next release around mid June I will make sure you can use your original markup and consider the change to conserve the active view of the editor

Hi Brendan, Sorry this change is affecting you, we had to make it for security reason. We are moving towards a model where the application will only authorize a limited set of html tags and attributes. Your example did not went true correctly, if you can use the advanced editor and select insert code > HTML I will try and let you know if I can support that. We have a tutorial about using buttons, that markup which is using Bootstrap is still supported https://developerscorner.storymaps.arcgis.com/create-buttons-for-main-stage-actions-using-the-style-tag-144b3aeb5583#.gq… I will keep track of defaulting to the source view mode if that was the last view you were on before saving the section. For inserting image, are you using the text editor feature or custom HTML? When using the text editor feature, an edit button on the side of the image should let you chose if you want the maximize button or not (I know sometimes the edit button don't appear and you will have no other choice than recreating the image)

There isn't such a feature by design. Map Journal main goal was to help author present a crafted story where user should not need to navigate the map much. Unlike Map Series that was really designed to be good at the case you mention, also notice that unlike in Map Series there isn't a search function either. But we have heard that request a couple of times and it's likely we will work on this, while we will keep the main pattern of Journal identical. In the mean time, you have one solution without customization that is to use only one map in your story and toggle layers visibility on and off depending on the section (set the location configuration to "Map default" in all sections). This can works really well if you have maybe less than 25 layers in your map (hard to give a number as it really depends on how much data each layer has). At some point, the Journal will be less responsive, the map will be significantly slower to load and the transition between sections will not be really smooth but it should still work. If customizing is an option, you could certainly do something pretty quickly by using the API in index.html (https://github.com/Esri/map-journal-storytelling-template-js#developer-guide ), you would place listener on all map extent change and apply the extent to other maps (that's pretty much what Map Series is doing). One challenge is that the maps only load when user access a section, so not all maps will be loaded and when a map load, you will have to apply the proper extent, which will not look very good. But you could go a little further by modifying the extent associated with a section before the section load, you can do that with something like (not tested) $.each(app.data.getStorySections(), function(i, section) {
if(section.media.type == "webmap") {
section.media.webmap.extent = <the recent map extent change serialized in JSON>
}
}); This should works really well. If all your maps are in the same projection, you should not see any difference. You can use app.map.extent.toJson() to serialize the current map extent in JSON. The ultimate way to do this would be to modify the class that deal with that in the application map-journal-storytelling-template-js/MainStage.js at master · Esri/map-journal-storytelling-template-js · GitHub ; comparing it with the same class in Map Series would certainly help map-series-storytelling-template-js/MainStage.js at master · Esri/map-series-storytelling-template-js · GitHub . This is certainly a bit tedious as there is a lot going on. Hope this helps and you succeed.

Sorry about your issue, this could also be because you are using a non supported HTML markup, see this thread for two links about authorized tags (see the last for what's authorized in the title/subtitle. There is slightly different tags authorized if you are storing your images in Online through a Feature Services, if you are not using a Feature Service, the latest link will also apply for your points caption) https://community.esri.com/message/536215#comment-536215

Cool. Then yes you can customize, you basically have to listen for map move in the main app and apply them to other apps. That would be pretty simple for someone familiar with the ArcGIS API for JavaScript. I can't help much more than telling you that there is documentation on our GitHub on how to access the maps to place the listener like for example for GitHub - Esri/map-series-storytelling-template-js: The Story Map Series lets you present a series of maps via tabs, numb…

I confirm synchronization apply only to maps directly managed by the Series app and not maps in apps. We are thinking about that kind of feature but it will be a while. One quick note if you would like to customize the application to support this, you will have to host the Map Series as well as every other app.

We are working on such a capability for all the apps, in the meantime Story Map Tour is the only application that support uploading images directly from your computer. That capability require you to have an ArcGIS Online Organization (i.e. free public account is not supported) and to have publisher privileges, see Story Map Tour | Story Maps

Good luck, maybe try using My Stories | Story Maps it can help you diagnose if your stories are public. One of the layer in your Swipe being not public may be the culprit.

That is strange, yes could you try to make the Swipe application public to see if it changes something. Making the Map Series public should not change anything I think

Sorry about your issues, it can be tricky and we are working on providing proper guideline in the builder so it should not be a problem anymore soon. Here is the first set of rules to works well if the application you are trying to embed in your main story is public: - if your application is accessed over https it can only include other applications over https - if your application is accessed over http it can include other applications over http or https It does not matter much if the main story is public or not but if the application you are trying to embed is not public there is one more rule that depend on your organization configuration and your browser: as the application is not public, the application may try to redirect to ArcGIS Online sign-in page over HTTPS which most browser except Internet Explorer will refuse as it's a change in protocol. The browser unfortunately won't notify the app or display any error message. I believe you must be in that case. Can you make the embedded application public (also make sure all of it's content is public)? If you can't that's ok and loading your story over HTTPS should fix the issue in most case. The same pattern should apply for webscene that are hosted in ArcGIS Online. Web scene that are hosted on Portal for ArcGIS can't be embedded in other application by default. To enable this, a configuration on the Portal webserver need to be performed. As far as I know there is no documentation about this and I am not sure this is fully supported so I suggest that you contact Esri Technical support if this is your case, see Esri Support Note that My Stories | Story Maps can help you diagnose if all the content of your are sharing at the level you expect.

Hi, You are facing a browser security limitation, as your Map Series is accessed over HTTPS, all the apps that you include need to be loaded over HTTPS too. Change the link of second app to the following and it should works https://davewillo.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Profile/index.html?appid=9e837e5204f34cd9af0dc765715956e4&embed

+1 on Xander reply, we don't recommend adding that many individual sections in a Journal or points in a Map Tour. You can do it and it's documented but we recommend you try to organize your content a bit differently. For example can you create a couple of Map Tour that cover a specific topic or a location and you include in a parent Map Journal? Another option if you happen to have a lot of images at similar location can be to use some Flickr Albums that you reference in a Tour or Journal, see that blog post Adding Flickr albums to Story Maps | ArcGIS Blog
