I commented THIS WEEK on this here: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-enterprise-questions/enterprise-portal-10-9-1-post-upgrade-time/m-p/1125249#M31876 All of our other portal post-upgrade step from 10.6 to 10.6.1; from 10.6.1 to 10.7,; from 10.7 to 10.7.1 and so on each took about 4 hours.  Fairly reasonable with a few hundred hosted feature layers and some 18k total items.  This time, I gambled and killed the post-upgrade after 8 hours.  I believe it was hung up but I really don't know. I DO KNOW that for all future Enterprise upgrades, I will not try to complete it on a single Sunday, but give myself an entire weekend.  There is nothing more nerve-wracking than waiting for that step to complete, knowing that I still have to apply 2 hosting server upgrade and post upgrade, web adaptor, 2 data stores, and 2 federated servers. This is odd, the option to 'sign in using browser' just came available and so I am now able to get into my portal that way.  Waiting to hear back from my IT Security to see if they changed anything.  I did have windows updates apply during a restart yesterday afternoon (12/1421, ~ 3:00 pm EST).  They may have just rolled back that change. ... I had to gamble and kill the post upgrade after 8 hours.  Something was hung somewhere.  As I mentioned, at 10.9 the post upgrade took 4 hours.  We have a distributed deployment (web server, portal, 2-machine host site, relational and tile cache datatores on Windows Server 2016 VM).   My guess is Living Atlas data hung it up but who knows.  Without any benchmarking anywhere its impossible to know.   ... I would say that @Oiligriv post clears things up, in that the instructions read you can't install the rename patch until you install the setup patch. ... View more

Thanks Jay, that's good to know . . . I was afraid that this might be a situation where I would have to install, run the patch, then run through the setup again (on 4 servers).  It looks like maybe the patch addresses an issue where we can't install any future patches without this one or, we couldn't update to something > 10.9.1 But again, not real clear ...
