Can you explalin a little more what you mean by animate? Merge is essentially the same as mosaic, only it is used for vector data rather than rasters.

Hi Joshua, You can accomplish this using the Reclassify tool in Spatial or 3D Analyst toolbox. Open the tool, select your DEM for the input, and then click 'Classify'. Set the classes to 3 and click OK. Specify one of the 'Old Values' range to your desired elevation range that you want the polygon to be. For example, if your DEM has values from 1.5 - 58.7, and you're interested in values 20-30, then you should specify the Old Values to be in ranges: 0 - 19.9 20.0 - 30.0 30.1 - 58.7 The new values would default to 1, 2, and 3. After your new raster is created, you can open the attribute table and select Values = 2. Next run the Raster to Polygon tool on the selection and you will have your new polygon.

Hi Shaun, Yes, you would need to keep the logging level set to FINE. This logs common messages from use of the server, like names of operation requests received. This level includes severe, warning, and info messages. See here. This will not cause a significant performance hit, possibly none at all. The only logging level that is not recommended for a production environment is 'Debug' as this will cause a significant decrease in server performance.

No, you will not want to delete any records in the sde.sde_versions table. If you did not have any replicas within your database, and there were rows in this table, they would be orphaned. Yes, the steps you listed will compress your database to a state of 0. As for analyzing your database, I would still recommend performing this step even with AUTO CREATE and AUTO UPDATE Statistics enabled.

Hi Leo, Does you geodatabase contain any replicas? If it does, be sure to synchronize all of them before performing the compress. You can also query the sde.sde_versions table to see if there any orphaned entries from a previous replica.

Mosaic Datasets are similar to unmanaged raster catalogs. Only the paths of the rasters are loaded into the dataset, not the images themselves. I would recommend creating a mosaic dataset and compare it to your raster catalog. The mosaic dataset will perform much faster.

Hi Patrick, I don't believe there is a way to store relative paths for a raster catalog. Since you are rebuilding the raster catalogs, I would recommend building a Mosaic Dataset rather than a raster catalog. Mosaic Datasets perform much faster than raster catalogs, and provide additional capabilities such as applying functions. Also, you can repair broken data paths easier with a mosaic dataset.
