Simcoe confirmed via Twitter that they wrote custom code to handle this.

When creating a new Web AppBuilder application, you need to choose the Web Map which will be used in the application. Is it possible to change this at run-time, ie while using the application?

County of Simcoe have a nice interactive map based on ArcGIS Web AppBuilder, at https://maps.simcoe.ca/Public/ This application contains functionality I haven't seen before in a WAB map - it aggregates layers into "themes", allowing the user to change the contents of the map with a single click: Is this function provided by an existing WAB widget, or is this something that Simcoe have written from scratch? (Note that the "themes" in this case don't refer to styling of the application, but to grouping similar layers together. Eg viewing the Local Real Estate "theme" changes the map's layers to only show real estate). I can think of a few different ways to approach this, but I don't want to waste time if an existing widget already handles it. (I asked this question elsewhere within Geonet but I'm trying again in the main WAB section as I didn't get any responses)

Hi Jim, Many thanks for the detailed reply. That does make sense. My preference would be to restore the site if possible, but I understand that it's not a high priority. It would make an interesting project for an intern or junior developer to figure out a way to integrate the historical with the modern. Or you could open-source the problem to us? Thanks again, Steve

An analogy is someone looking for a manual on their 1970's Ford. They find the link to the manual online, but Ford have redirected all old links to Ford.com Just because Ford don't sell 1970's cars any more, the old manual doesn't suddenly become useless.

Hi Timothy, IMO it's bad practise to break old links like this - "Many of the scripts were brought over" doesn't fully address the issue. Esri has a huge legacy of valuable content (contributed by users) which is buried in links all over the web, and the redirect means that these links are now broken. Given that the only people visiting an old ArcScripts link are actually looking for that content, what is the harm in letting them find it? The fact the content is 6+ years old doesn't matter - an old AML or Avenue script may not be directly usable by someone today, but the concepts may be of use. And remember, the only reason someone is following that link is because they're actually looking for that old AML or Avenue script. Basically there is no reason for the redirect of all ArcScripts URLs, as it means you're destroying a whole bunch of user-generated content for no gain. A prominent mention of Code Sharing on the ArcScripts landing page would suffice. Thanks, Steve

Anyone trying to visit http://arcscripts.esri.com is redirected to ArcGIS Code Sharing - but the old content from ArcScripts has not been ported across. I get that ArcScripts is no longer active, but this does not mean that all of the content on ArcScripts is useless. There is many YEARS' worth of user contributions on ArcScripts, which will be lost if this resource is removed. Esri - can you please remove the redirect on http://arcscripts.esri.com and just include a note telling people to check ArcGIS Code Sharing for up-to-date code? thanks, Steve ping Jim Barry

Derek Swingley wrote a sample at javascript - How to Use Custom Basemaps with BasemapToggle widget? - Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange but this is now failing for me using v3.16. It appears that it's no longer possible to access the esriConfig.defaults.map.basemaps object?

Hi Kelly Hutchins, How would this work using v3.16 of the API? According to BasemapToggle | API Reference | ArcGIS API for JavaScript NOTE: Basemap objects created using the esri/basemaps class may also be passed as values to this property. What "value" should be used? I've tried a variety of options at this Edit fiddle - JSFiddle but haven't been able to avoid the "Cannot read property 'thumbnailUrl' of undefined" error. Thanks, Steve

This seems to be the way things are moving. Eg all of the Adobe products on my machine will stop working if I stop paying. The happy trade-off with Adobe is that it's much cheaper for me to 'rent' than buy them outright - I'm not sure if this is the case with ArcGIS Pro.

I'm trying to configure the Query widget such that the user is able to find objects on the map. The widget allows you to set a Filter Expression - but it requires you to hard-code the expression into the widget. In this case I want the users to be able to find by Claim Number, but the widget requires me to hard-code this: A suggestion is that the warning prompt for the blank value should appear when the client tries to run an empty query, not when the admin tries to configure an empty query. Ideally, this entire section of the panel should be accessible on the client side, so they can choose which fields to search on, whether to choose "is greater than" or "is less than", etc. In many cases, the admin doesn't know what the client will need to search for at run-time so it's hard to pre-configure using the current setup.
