RAID technology has enabled the geospatial community to create workstations that not only have the processing power, but also the capability to store large volumes of imagery data when processing the data on single workstations.
The new distributed processing capability allows to combine the compute power of these workstations even more efficiently. This article describes some factors to consider when setting up such a processing environment, to ensure that data stored on the RAID drives can be accessed efficiently from all machines.
