Lauren, The way I would go about it would be to calculate the unique combination of all fire polygons so where there are overlaps in fires that would become its own polygon. How you want to manage the attributes is another question. If you are only interested in the time since last fire that would be a 1:1 join while if you are interested in keeping all of the fire attributes that would be a 1:M relate.

Alexis, You're right that the it does work on the Con tool while it doesn't on the raster calculator. The problem that I see is that it converts it from a mosaic dataset to a raster dataset. I've got 80 Gb in my mosaic dataset. Does ESRI even support a single raster at 80 Gb? The mosaic dataset functions seem to do a lot of things, so I'm surprised that reclassification/con statements don't appear to be one of them.

Hi everyone, I'm concerned that the mosaic dataset is a dead-end solution, great for display, but limited for analysis. I'm trying to do something that should be simple - reclassification of a single band into categories 1 and 0 using a single threshold. I'm hoping that I'm just not getting it and that there is an easy solution to this seemingly simple problem. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and perform a batch reclassify on the individual tiles and then generate a new mosaic dataset, but this seems like a dumb thing to have to do. Does any body have any ideas?

Erica, This is great. I'm just curious if you have any thoughts on how one might go about reclassifying a mosaic dataset. I'm concerned that I may have hit a dead end. The mosaic dataset really seems to be geared toward displaying imagery and less toward analyzing imagery.

Thanks Robert. You're right about the color balancing prior to generating overviews. I'm finding that when running the color balance mosaic dataset that a third order dodging technique with pre-color balancing using standard deviation seems to be working well. Default settings gave me pretty bad results.

Kyle, You can't call up the Geostatistical Wizard in ModelBuilder. What you can do is run some data through the geostatistical wizard to parameterize your model, save it as a geostatistical layer file, and then use that file in subsequent steps using the geostatistical tools in ArcToolbox. This approach may be appropriate provided that your variogram parameter, like the nugget, sill, and range, don't change much between datasets.

Hi, I'm wondering whether it is possible to color balance mosaic dataset overviews. I'm getting terrible results and I'm concerned that the end user won't even take the time to zoom in. the big issue is that I'm trying to combine California and Nevada CIR NAIP imagery, and they both look radically different from the overview. There must be something I can do.

Hi, Surely I'm missing something simple. I'm working with Esri's new mosaic dataset format and am wondering how I can extract values below a certain theshold for a single band, like we used to do with the raster calculator. I've looked at both the functions in the mosaic dataset as well as trying to get the mosaic into the raster calculator and neither is working well. I've read through the help but am hoping that maybe I just missed something obvious?

I managed to find a thread on StackOverflow that solved my problem http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3904389/adding-multiple-field-names-in-arcgis-using-python. The solution using python was to replace infields = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(1) with infields = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(1).split(',') then add the following for i in range(len(infields)): Then the entire script is embedded within the for loop. The len() function finds the length of the list. -Tom Dilts

Steve, What I've done in the past is convert the raster to point and then use the intersect tool and the extract values to point/sample tools to pull out the zonal id and the raster values. You can manually edit the points to change them from one zone to another. Then when you want to summarize use the summarize tool. -Tom Dilts

Hi, I'm working on a model that uses co-kriging to create hundreds of precipitation layers (see model.png). The model works except that I need to enter in each value manually for the iterate multivalue tool. Since I've got hundreds maybe thousands of values it'll take me hours if not days just to enter the values. I'd like to get this automated so that I can enter a block of text seperated by delimiters. I see two possible approaches: 1. Is it somehow possible to alter the iterate by multivalues tool to get it to accept a block of values seperated by delimiters (see dialog.png)? 2. Alternatively does anybody know the python version of iterating by multivalues since modelbuilder doesn't allow us to export scripts that involve iteration? Thanks. I look forward to hearing your ideas.

I have to agree with Chris. I don't see the advantages of this new format other than a few added icons. Now I've got to go looking all over the place to find solutions whereas before we only had arcscripts and the good old forums. One simple search did it all! As for the new script gallery we've got the following nearly identical galleries: Model and Script Tool Gallery http://resources.esri.com/geoprocessing/index.cfm?fa=codeGallery Geoprocessing Model and Script Tool Gallery http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/file/geoprocessing To make matters worse ESRI is threatening to close the old forums rendering all of the past 20 years of work obsolete. Straight from ESRI "As of April 2nd, 2010, ArcScripts is closed for all new scripts and edits to existing content; however, we will keep them read-only for at least several years." A lot of old ideas are invaluable for building new tools. I'm really hoping that ESRI changes their minds and keeps the library of user knowledge available for many years to come.
