Polygon conversion to multiband raster

Hi, does anyone know how to convert a feature file with overlapping polygons into a multiband raster to retain the overlapping info?

Eg. I have a fire history file where a point can have multiple fire events over time. I need to keep all the historical info for later analysis but need my info in raster format

The way I would go about it would be to calculate the unique combination of all fire polygons so where there are overlaps in fires that would become its own polygon.  How you want to manage the attributes is another question.  If you are only interested in the time since last fire that would be a 1:1 join while if you are interested in keeping all of the fire attributes that would be a 1:M relate.
