Mosaic Dataset and Reclassification

Hi everyone,

I'm concerned that the mosaic dataset is a dead-end solution, great for display, but limited for analysis.  I'm trying to do something that should be simple - reclassification of a single band into categories 1 and 0 using a single threshold.  I'm hoping that I'm just not getting it and that there is an easy solution to this seemingly simple problem.  I'm about ready to throw in the towel and perform a batch reclassify on the individual tiles and then generate a new mosaic dataset, but this seems like a dumb thing to have to do.  Does any body have any ideas?

Hi Tom,
Have you tried the Con tool (Spatial Analyst Toolbox-->Conditional-->Con) yet? It allows you to assign true and false (1 and 0) values for a raster using a given expression. I think it should work on a mosaic...

Sorry if that's something you've already tried!

Thanks,
Alexis

Alexis,

You're right that the it does work on the Con tool while it doesn't on the raster calculator.  The problem that I see is that it converts it from a mosaic dataset to a raster dataset.  I've got 80 Gb in my mosaic dataset.  Does ESRI even support a single raster at 80 Gb?  The mosaic dataset functions seem to do a lot of things, so I'm surprised that reclassification/con statements don't appear to be one of them.
