Hi everyone, I am a Universtiy student who is trying to find a way too see as a line the shortest distance between two points. I want arcgis to get around obstacle like lake, mountain (defined as polygon).
Example: I got 3 shapefile 1. The obstacles are defined has polygon and are on the shapefile ''Obstacles'' 2. The walkable area are on another shapefile named ''Walkable_Area'' 3. The 2 point (Origin,Destination) are on the last shapefile called ''OD_Points'' Soo i have 2 points one South-west and another Nord-east. I also have a region too navigate and obstacle to get around. The result wanted is the shortest distance, getting around obstacles, between Origin and destination and shown as a line.
I know that video game use that kind of function really often it's called A star algorithm. I also know that the A star algorithm is finding is't way in a point to point graph. Soo for video game they has develop the principe of Navigation Mesh. Did that kind of Algorithm/Function exist in Arcgis ? Cedric P. Did you ever find a solution? We are trying to do something similar in a campus environment where the goal is to figure out how to navigate buildings while avoiding walls and such.

Thanks Mike, I agree, it would be difficult to manage customer expectations and functionality. Perhaps straightforward documentation on how to do more advanced management functions could be added to the online help? Maybe an 'Advanced Resource Management' section? From digging thru the API, it's quite appears quite robust and putting together a resource center with a few samples would be really helpful. For now, I think I know where to go from here. I got tired of trying to code popups by handcrafting json documents so I've been using the AGOL tools to put applications together and then extracting the json document needed for our mobile content server thru some FME workbenches. I'll take a similar approach here to build some functionality to update resource urls. Cheers! Jade

With a little reverse engineering of the AGOL REST API and looking at the docs (http://www.arcgis.com/apidocs/rest/), it seems there is a REST endpoint that accepts POST submissions. You can pass in properties to update such as url, tags etc. You can even update the username and password for secured services. I built a simple html form to send the update and it appears to work without losing the popup information. The trick is finding the id of the folder you have the layer in. Here is the rest endpoint format: http://www.arcgis.com/sharing/content/users/<username>/<owner folder id>/items/<item id>/update While this appears to work, and I have tested updating the url and service username/password, I can't believe there is not a more 'official' way to do this. On the service edit page, it seems like there should be an option for updating the url. If the service is secure, you can update the username/password. I realize there are probably a lot of potential problems (i.e. what happens if you change the structure of the service by adding/removing layers etc.) but it would be handy when you know the service has not changed, just the location, to be able to quickly update.

We have a number of layers that are fairly complex and have popups configured on many layers. The move from 10.0 to 10.1 necessitated setting up a new server in our organization and publishing all of our existing services to the new server so that our existing applications could continue to work off the old services while we deployed the new services. I am really, really hoping there will be a way to update the url for all of our items which point to our 10.0 server and point them to our new 10.1 server. Otherwise, it'll be many, many hours involved to rebuild all of our popups. We are also in the midst of a complete re-organization so even if we had been able to update our server in place, we would have eventually needed to change the url's. Thanks in advance!

We too are getting this error. We initially had no problems using the ManageMapCacheTiles service but I attempted to create a new service and generate the tile cache yesterday for the first time in awhile and ran into this error.

I too would really like to hear from ESRI on this! Our university has very strict rules about using cloud services which at this point basically equate to completely prohibiting them. In other words, we can't use ArcGIS online. I've used it to create the JSON which I then serve on our mobile content server but as the previous poster found out, you end up giving everyone administrative privileges.

We are on 10.0 and using direct connections to our Oracle database so I don't think that's the issue. Since yesterday, I've checked a number of things that searching the forums revealed might be problems and have been able to rule them out: OBJECTID being sent as a string Using FeatureLayerTask rather than FeatureLayer (my application is trying to update a stand alone table) Date/Time fields removed At this point, I've created a class that wraps HTTPService to make calls to the ../FeatureServer/table_id/updateFeatures endpoint and it works great. All efforts to use FeatureLayer/FeatureLayerTask.applyEdits() fail. Also, the ../FeatureServer/table_id/applyEdits end point fails when I provide the exact same json structure which succeeds at the /updateFeatures endpoint which seems to lend itself to this being an issue with the server, rather than the web API's, but who knows? BTW, I have several iPad maps that can update features in different services with no problem...

I know this is an older thread but I ran into the same issue today trying to use the Flex API (3.0) FeatureLayer.applyEdits(). It always fails. I used ServiceCapture to grab the parameters sent to the service and when I use the FeatureServer/tableId/applyEdits REST page, I also get an error. However, when I take the updates array from the request and use the http://myserver/arcgis/rest/service/featureserver/tableid/updateFeatures REST page, it works just fine! I'll check to see if this was addressed in a service pack tonight. Hopefully this helps someone! I've spent all day trying to chase this down...

Just wondering if there any plans in the road map for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Explorer Online and/or ArcGIS for iPad to support relationships? It would be nice if related records could be configured to be displayed in the same way attachments can be configured to be displayed when setting up a map. Thanks!

Thanks Robert! I see also that WidgetTemplate has properties to enable closing, resizing, dragging etc. which hide the buttons. To hide the resize button in the lower right you must also set the resizable property to false.

Anyone have an idea how I could create a widget that cannot be closed by the user and also cannot be moved by the user (disable the drag functionality)?

I've been trying to compile the 2.3.1 version against the 4.5 sdk. Is it possible that's why I'm getting the Undefined state "open" error at runtime? The application compiles just fine but when I run the application and open a widget I get the error. I apologize if I missed the answer in one of the previous posts (I couldn't find a way to translate the non english posts).

Hello, Wondering if anybody out there is using token based security in flex air or mobile applications? The only way I've found to get it to work is thru using an updated proxy configuration that allows for dynamic tokens. What I'd really like to be able to do is embed the token in my mobile or air application and not have it expire. My problem so far with tokens is that they are either url or ip address based neither of which works well for an air or mobile application developed with the flex sdk. Thanks in advance! Jade
