This has been an issue my entire career in city government (in which I also work in a college town where we provide assistance to students often). All of my work is technically public, so I have seen my work cannibalized in many private projects (that others are making money off of). I personally like the idea of 'public' or 'open' data and want to provide as much data to people as I have. The question is going to be, why do you want to publish the data and who is it intended for? I understand the wanting to keep your name associated with data, especially when you've done something really cool, but is it worth limiting the access to it? I would say the best you can do is create really good metadata, and maybe add a source field into the data itself. I can promise that limiting the access to only academia would not prevent it from being hijacked.

I know that you can add an 'other' item to a list, but is there a way for a user to add an item to a list so that other users can also see that item? I'm working on a construction inspection form that calls for identifying equipment on a site. Different sites will have different equipment, and I would undoubtedly miss items. This is also going to be an issue for bid items. I would like to list the basics and be able to have the user manually enter items as they find them. It would be really great if the next person to do an inspection could see the items on the list that was previously added.

We now have ArcGIS Server running and I have a questions about the best way to share the data on it with my agency. I have the Local Government database installed and have populated some of it. I would like to know how other employees here will access that data? I know I can 'Share a Service' that everyone can access, but I need them to be able to get to the most recent data and don't want to create 'Services' for every dataset (or recreate them every time there's a change). Is there a way to provide all of the agency GIS users read-only access to the Server, is it a good idea to create a single User profile that anyone in the agency can use to have access? I would like to know how other people are accessing their Server data?

Do the Max and Min functions still work within the Field Calculator? I have multiple fields with elevations (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G) that I would like to pull out the maximum value in a new field (ELEV). I tried ELEV = MAX([!A!, !B!, !C!, !D!, !E!, !F!, !G!]) like I've done in the past, but it wont work. I'm about to freak out...am I doing something stupid or what? Please Help.

Thank you, I had tried that once and failed. I think I forgot to select Polyline for the feature type. It worked this time though, so I am grateful.

I have a layer with 14 records in its table, but only 11 features on the map. Three records don't seem to be on the map, and I cannot figure out how to remove them. I can only see the records of the Table is open, they do have info entered, bun cannot edit the Table. When I go into an Edit session, there are no feature for these records to select, so I cannot delete them. I really need to get rid of these, any suggestions?

There is a third option, one that we are considering. We already have a few cellular mobile wifi units and are looking into installing more robust units in a few of our work rigs. As long as you are working within range of the rig, then it's okay.

I did share everything with Public (Feature Layer, Map, and App), and it seems to work. I don't understand why I would have to share everything though. That seems to be how other people got it to work also. This is fine as long as there's no privileged information in there.

I have created a Citizen Problem Reporter app for the City, but can only seem to access with my account. I cannot figure out why it cannot be access with Guest; it gives the message, "Configured group is invalid or no items have been shared with this group yet." when I try. I gone through the instructions twice with no success. Does anyone else have this running, or have any suggestion?
