You are right about taking a bit to get used to. Maybe more than a bit. Curtis, I do have a Layout created and it is highlighted/selected. But no "Map Surrounds" group. I do see it on the Insert Tab in my v2.4 Arc GIS Pro installed on a different PC. v2.5 does not have any patch to install, does it? Thanks for the quick response.

The help material sends you to the Insert (ribbon) Tab, then to the Map Surrounds group. The available groups on the insert tab are Project Layer Templates Styles Favorites I tried to customize the ribbon to add the Map Surrounds group, but I don't see it available to be added. This should be super easy to do. What am I missing? Thanks for any help.

Dan, I thought of doing this as well. But there may be a problem. I think cells closer to the edge of the raster may be summed based on fewer cells than cells in the middle. The sample image in the ArcGIS Desktop help indicates that this may be the case (see image below). For example, notice the '11' at the upper left of the Output Raster. That's summed using only four cells (since it is at the edge of the raster). Compare this to the '24' that is outlined in yellow in the Output Raster. This is summed using nine cells. I am using a circular analysis shape as well. I'm interested to hear what you think. I sure could be wrong on this.

I see that the Citation layer can be added as a separate layer and that would have some usefulness, at times. I think you have missed my main question a little. If you add the World Imagery service as a basemap, then you do not get the metadata functionality, correct? It seemed redundant to have to add another layer then to get the metadata functionality. Perhaps the software prevents the metadata functionality in the basemaps, and that is the reason. Adding the Citation layer in 3 times and resetting the scales and filters will no doubt work, but seems easier to just add the World Imagery as a map layer. I just made a map using the plain dark canvas as the basemap and the World Imagery as the last map layer. Seems to work fine like that. Either way, this additional functionality is great and not difficult to get working, even if adding a separate layer. Having it work through the basemap just streamlines things a little. Thanks for your thoughts.

Both the webmap link you provided and the blog link are useful and provide the required metadata information. Thanks so much for the links. Adding the World Imagery layer through the Living Atlas produces the ability to get metadata pop up boxes, but only if added as a layer to your online map? Adding the same layer as a basemap, does not result in the metadata pop up boxes. So it seems a little clunky to have to add the same imagery layer to your webmap after already having the same layer as your basemap, in order to get the metadata functionality. Is this the way it is supposed to work?

When using one of the ESRI streamed in aerial layers from ArcGIS Online, how does one determine what the acquisition date would be for any particular area of interest? This is often important when using imagery zoomed in to local or regional levels.

Thanks Derek, I had been to that link, and it is clear that the capability is there. However, there are a lot of configuration nuances to pay attention to. Not all online maps are properly set up to be offline enabled. The individual data layers need to be enabled as well. Depending on the source of the data and the version of server software, they may not be enabled by default, or there will be varying functionality. Thanks again.

Our scenario is needing to take an online map to a remote area with poor to no cellular signal, and collect data using Collector and iOS tablets. I see where the summer upgrade will have some enhanced capabilities in this area, but what are the current capabilities at this time. We use ERSI streamed aerials as a base and serve data layers from out ArcGIS Server. Thanks for any help.

Thanks Kory. Another good thought. Much appreciated. But it still is a one at a a time process. I know that there are Symbol Libraries for about any industry you can imagine, with hundreds of symbols. In ArcMap, you would run the Style Manager, then add a new style, browse to where you had downloaded a symbol library in a .style format, then upload that entire library at once, markers, line symbols, fill, etc. Whatever is defined in your .style file. Only works, obviously, if you have a correctly formatted .style format, not a folder of BMP symbol files. I am new to ArcGIS Pro and did not see a similar Style Manager interface, which prompted the original question. Is the .stylx the ArcGIS Pro equivalent to the ArcMap .style file? GitHub had a possible item to try, but I have not explored it GitHub - Esri/solutions-symbology-data: Source data for Solutions Symbology used in Templates (Note: excludes standard 2…

Dan, this is somewhat helpful, in that it allows you to attach to an outside picture file for a particular symbol. Tried it, it does work. But it does not add it to the Symbol Gallery where it would be available for other maps. Also, it appears to be a one-at-a-time as opposed to importing a group of new symbols. You are able to do this in ArcMap Desktop Thanks Dan.

How do I import 3rd party Point symbols (png format) in ArcGIS Pro, so that they are available in the Symbology Gallery? I tried looking in the Help but no help. Maybe I missed it.

Sometimes you are taking photos only. Then are a variety of ways that have been mentioned where you end up with a geo-smart point shapefile, with hyperlinks to open the actual photo using the Identify tool. Even publish to an ArcGIS Online map for web consumption. But if you are also using Collector to set field points and attaching other attributes from the field before submitting, then it is a pretty big deal to add the photo from the mobile device and have that already permanently attached to the correct point, when, like you say, you are doing hundreds of points. No adding attachments later. I do not take the photo directly from Collector because 1) power consumption you mention and 2) it will NOT be stored in your iOS device camera roll. So you can't do a direct photo download from the camera, if you wanted to. Photos have to be retrieved from the SDE server probably. We could use some of the better photo functionality in some of these other apps, maybe ESRI jump it up. WE are definitely "app swamped" for sure..

Kathy, We have been using the ArcGIS Online maps since before it was a subscription based service, and we have come across your sharing situation many times. As others have noted in this thread, the current business model for AGOL does not include sharing "private" maps to anyone without an authenticated named user organizational account. I.E., unlicensed users cannot be shared to private groups. There is quite a lot of benefit that can be realized with a pure public account, but the sharing you want to do is not part of the current functionality. When we come across this need to share with people who only have public accounts, we try to help them uncover whether there are any ESRI ArcGIS licenses held in their organization. If they have 1 seat of ArcGIS Desktop, for example, I have been told they have 1 named user license to use in ArcGIS Online, but they may not be aware they have that license, if that is still the case. A lot of small organizations do not have any ESRI software in house, though. We have even helped others obtain their own license seats from ESRI and helped them to set up and administer their AGOL Organization, in order to get the sharing set up properly. The smallest package you can get for the AGOL services is I think a 5 seat package for about $2500. That makes it out of the question for a lot of organizations. You might shave some off that total by just buying a single seat, low level ArcGIS Desktop and paying the annual maintenance fee. I am sure you have considered making your maps totally public as a way around the licensing issue, but often that is not a viable option due to data sensitivity for a lot of organizations. Not sure there is an easy answer to your need.

Photos to Points is another tool that will read all the EXIF info, create a point and rotate a symbol based on the bearing, and capture all of the other related data like date/time, etc. A side note on the rotations, they are pretty valuable. But they do need to be verified by the picture taker after you get them on a map. We have seen many occasions where the rotation shown is bogus. Sometimes, I am sure, the picture taker is too quick to snap the photo before the direction settles out. Also we know that different cameras have a different basis of rotation. Some are 0° being due North and some being 0° being due East. So mixed photos on a project require adjusting the rotation values to all be on the same basis. Thanks for sharing, Steve.
