Feel free to paste a link or screenshot of why embedded the WAB app doesn't quite work for what you want to do. We'd be interested in seeing that because it is a pattern we do recommend. Rupert

The Story Map app templates don't provide an option for enabling a basemap widget so your readers can change the basemap. This is because we want storytellers to chose the best basemaps for their maps as part of authoring to keep things simple for the reader. Basemap widgets can be added by downloading and customizing the apps but that requires some dev. See the If You're a Developer part of the Resources | Story Maps page. Derek's suggestion is easier if you do want to provide a map with a basemap widget (or any other widget, such as a checkable table of contents for choosing layers: Use the Web App Builder to create an app, and then you could embed that app into your Story Map Journal, Cascade or Series instead of a web map. (The other Story Map template don't let you replace the web map with an app). See Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS | ArcGIS . Also see these tips about embedding: Frequently Asked Questions | Story Maps Rupert

HI Kathy If you can add that data into a web map as a layer, then you can include it in a Shortlist. For example if you can publish that data as a feature service, either via ArcGIS Online or via ArcGIS Enterprise server, you can add it into the web map used in a Shortlist as a layer people can click on. In addition, if your data contains the fields expected by the Shortlist, you can define a Shortlist's places (the places shown in the tabs and as markers on the map) from that service. So for example, you could drive a Shortlist from the latest data in a database. For more info see this FAQ: Can I use existing point data as places in a Shortlist? > Frequently Asked Questions | Story Maps Rupert

Hi Alex, by authoring Story Actions in your narrative (https://community.esri.com/community/gis/web-gis/storymaps/blog/2016/06/01/arcgis-blog-using-story-map-journal-main-stage-actions ) you can jump to different sections in a Map Journal. You can also set up Story Actions that open other content in the main stage, such as embedded content. But there's no way for your readers to filter the sections in a Map Journal to hide/show them selectively. Might be better though in general to just have a flowing story without a lot of jumps or paths through: some of our favorite Map Journals that we think are really effective are read just by scrolling through so your story can reveal itself without too much extra navigation. The recommendation is to upload your images into the Story Map from disk if you can. This optimizes the images appropriately for you. (Just to confirm, I'm talking about images that you want to appear in your Story Map as images, not how to add images as layer-based overlay content to maps. Rupert

Hi Claire I just saw this tweet to a story map that is perhaps the reverse of your approach. They are using a single Cascade with different sections for different species, and they are embedding single-section Map Journals with story actions into the Cascade to provide clickable galleries of images. Hi Claire. It sounds like you are using each Cascade to present a single page of info for each species inside a Map Journal. In general we'd definitely recommend trying to just use one template in any story map project if possible instead of multiple embedded stories, not just for ease of use but for easier authoring and management, so you don't have multiple apps to manage.. For example you could perhaps use a single Cascade instead of a Map Journal containing multiple Cascades. That said, some authors are getting nice results with Cascades or Map Journals embedded inside bulleted or tabbed Map Series apps (for example see http://eastduncouncil.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=51657d2fb4694f74bfec5a42e32a9204 or https://web.tplgis.org/Storymaps/ERCKingCounty/ ) where the embedded app can fill the whole available page width. Hi April The Map Tour expects each feature to have two images attached: the first one is used as the main image and the second one is used as the thumbnail. See: https://community.esri.com/thread/204257-create-a-story-map-tour-using-an-existing-online-map#comment-744853 Hope that helps Rupert

Nothing has changed with respect to that. If your web map is or can be shared publicly, could you post the URL to the web map. One thing to check: if the location layer in your web map (the layer containing the places for your tour) has a scale visibility setting defined (i.e. that controls at what scales the layer will appear in the web map), the Story Map Tour doesn't like that, So check your layer and make it visible at all scales. I'd recommend working with Esri Technical Support if you are still having this issue. Rupert
